A Word From Your Pastor:

What an exciting start here at First Baptist Caruthersville. Susan and I are excited to be here in Caruthersville and our first few weeks have been extremely busy and entertaining as we minister for Our King.

I look forward to working with the leadership of this church to further the Kingdom of God here in the Caruthersville area. Jesus has work for me and you to do and I pray we tackle all of these challenges as they arise on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis in the fashion only Jesus would approve of.

The deacon body have been such good Christian brothers to me as I start this pastorate. I hope and pray the Lord’s work is on our minds every time we meet to expand His Work in Caruthersville. A great deacon body is important as we grow in the future. The deacons coming along side of the pastor to lead and nurture the people here at First Baptist is of utmost concern for me and Jesus will bless us as we follow Him. Even though Earl is not on the rotation, he has been a big help and I appreciate his counsel and encouragement that he has provided.

Our teachers are very important to the growth of our church. Whether they teach the children, youth or adults. Seeking Jesus’ guidance as they teach and disciple all of our church body allowing the Holy Spirit to grow us into the Christians He has called us out to be. Keep up the good work.

I appreciate Phil and all of his hard work in the music, radio, and teaching ministries of this church. I pray the Lord will bless him in all of his work here at First Baptist Caruthersville. Thank you, Phil for all that you do!! Please tell Phil that you appreciate him, you have no idea all that is on his plate.

It’s unbelievable that the first month has already gone by. The time moves very quickly when you stay busy doing the work that the Lord has put in front of you. Nursing home, home bound and hospital visits will be on my weekly schedule. If I miss someone one week, I will see them the next week and this will happen because new projects arise daily, such as building a handicap ramp or something along those lines.

In the future, I will be challenging you to get out of your comfort zone to reach as many in Caruthersville and the surrounding areas as we can possibly reach. We will use several ways to do this and I pray you will be willing to help me build Jesus’ Church and one that is pleasing to Him.

In Christ,

Bro. Jimmy

FBC Worship Choir

Can you believe it? Easter is almost here! With that, the worship choir is busy preparing for our Easter Celebration, which will be Easter Sunday, April 16th at 10:30 am. The choir will be presenting selections from Michael Neal’s Easter Worship Collection, "Risen Redemption". We are looking forward to a wonderful Easter Sunday this year. It all starts at 7:00 am with our annual Sunrise Service at Reynolds Park by the river, then we’ll have our annual pancake breakfast at the fellowship hall around 7:30 am. After that, Sunday School starts at 9:30 am and our morning worship celebration begins at 10:30 am. We hope everyone will come and join us that morning as we celebrate the passion and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Remember Easter is not about bunnies, baskets, or eggs, but about the powerful risen Savior we serve who broke the chains of Hell and Death and conquered the grave! As the song says,

"Death and the grave have been defeated

under the power of a great Redeemer!

You are the one, our Risen Redemption!"

Singing His Praises,

Extreme Arts :

April is going to be a busy month for Extreme Arts, as we are preparing for two big services. The first will be on April 23rd at 6:00 pm, as we will be participating in the National Days of Remembrance services that will be going on all over the country from April 23rd - April 30th. Each year state and local governments, military bases, workplaces, schools, religious organizations, and civic centers host observances and remembrances activities for their communities. These events occur during the week of remembrance, which runs from the Sunday before Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) through following Sunday. This year, we will be spotlighting the life of Jane Haining, who was a missionary for the Church of Scotland to Budapest Hungary during WWII. She was captured by the Nazi’s in April of 1944 and charged with, among other things, working with Jews and listening to BBC. Come and help us remember the millions murdered during the Holocaust in the special candlelight service.

Also, we are working on a number of skits, human videos, and songs as well as a musical that we will present on May 21st at 6:00 pm called, "Alive In Us". The script is being written by our students and featuring songs by such CCM artists as For King and Country, Rend Collective, Lauren Daigle, Lincoln Brewster, and more. We are always looking for new members between grades 7th - 12th, and any adult volunteers to help with such things as set, lighting, sound, etc. God is using these students in a powerful way, and I can’t wait to see where He continues to lead them in the future.

Women On Mission:

In case you haven’t been in the fellowship hall in the past 3 weeks, it looks like an Easter explosion. Many of us are busy preparing the baskets for the many, many foster children here in Pemiscot county. Between 140-150 will be prepared. If you donated to this much needy cause or helped in any way, did baskets or whatever, WOM wants to thank you. If you didn’t donated or make a basket, you surely missed out on a blessing. I truly believe God blesses those that help children in need. If you are at Walmart or Dollar General after Easter, please check the clearance isle & purchase things that can be used for next year. We will continue this project for as long as it is possible...

Our Louie Scarf Project" is well underway, with some cutting, some punching holes, some putting together. It’s all team work. These beautiful hand made scarves will be passed out at the Christmas parade this year.

WOM will meet April 10th at 6:30 pm. Come and join us, we have many ideas to share. I am encouraging you to please do a box a month for the Operation Christmas Child. This month has been tragic for workers of the Samaritan purse. With several workers being killed & some kidnaped. Please keep this organization in your prayers. Blessing to you Matthew 25: 34-40

Youth News:

Happy Spring everyone! On March 26th, a group of us went out and distributed the crosses. I love seeing all the crosses out around town and I love the opportunity it creates to share what our Lord has done in your life. We placed around 80 crosses and we thank everyone for their support of this ministry.

On April 1st, we will be treating the senior adults to a lunch delivery. I haven’t had but a small amount of forms turned in. Get with me if you know of someone that we can make a delivery to that day. There will be potato soup, a choice of a grilled cheese or chicken salad. Then a choice of banana pudding or brownie. We have plenty.

We are still in the planning stages of a youth rally on May 6th. Please be in prayer about this activity. We will be inviting all the youth groups in our association and of course this creates a chance for the youth to invite other youth that maybe don’t have a church home. We will come together first and have pizza. The band Ascension, that our very own Phil Barksdale is a part of, will provide the worship music. We have some very fun crowd games planned. Then, Darnelle "Snoop" Rodgers will be speaking. This will be an awesome time of worship & fellowship. But before this happens, our youth will be going out & passing out flyers about our church. They will also have the opportunity to take prayer requests and if needed, pray for them right there. I’m very proud of the serving hearts our youth group has.

We are getting closer to church camp in June. We now have 3 spots open, so if you know of a youth that would benefit from camp, even if they don’t go to church here, please come see me.

Please be in prayer for our group as we continue to grow and for these activities. As always, we appreciate our church family for the support you give this group.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

We are doing a study of the 5 Books of Moses, the Pentateuch, beginning with Genesis. We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall. If you like a topical approach to Bible study with a more in-depth and thought provoking format, then this is the Bible study group for you. There’s just something about God’s people meeting together and studying the Word of God that brings a closeness to God and each other. Come and join us this Tuesday!

Help Needed:

If you are interested in learning to run sound and multi-media for our evening services, please let me know. I will be offering another training course soon. This is a much needed ministry at our church. Please pray about joining the audio-visual team this year.
