Notes From Bro. Doug:

WOW, July is gone! We accomplished much in July with the best part being kids camp. We want to to thank Danelle DeReign Bernard, Dylan Treece & Leader Marilyn Strawn for taking our kids to camp. They all had a great time.

I want to thank Bro. Tim Abanathy for filling in for me during my vacation.

We watched the movie "Escape From Hell" and many received it well. We had a great crowd for the viewing. We all need to remember that hell will be forever, heaven will too and will be a lot cooler!!!

Thanks so much for allowing Peggy to go on the mission trip this summer. She will be home soon. She & Laura have sent messages that says all is well.

It was so great to have the Good News Singers from Hayti. The service was well attended and they did an awesome job. We will have them back.

Please keep up the excellence for Jesus. Keep being early for class if you teach, keep serving if you are a deacon, keep ministering if you are a part of ministry, keep others first and God will be Glorified!

It’s Great to Be Your Pastor!

Bro. Doug

Women On Mission:

Women on Mission met on Monday, July 9th with 9 women present. We finalized plans for the ice cream social that took place on Sunday night, July 22nd. We are excited to announce that $281.00 in donations was taken in for our Lottie Moon Christmas offering. This is an important and one of the biggest projects we participate in each year. The funds donated will help keep our foreign missionaries on the field spreading God’s word and growing His Kingdom. Look for future opportunities to participate and give as we look towards the future and set our goals.

Continue praying for Peggy as she is on her big adventure to India. As I write this, she is with Laura and they will begin the week working with children and doing VBS before heading to the slums. We will look forward to her return and to hear her stories of her trip and the blessings she gave and the ones she received. FBC was a big part of this journey for her as we are answering God’s command to "go into all the world spreading the gospel..."

The nursing home ministry has started up again with Bro. Doug leading the singing and devotion. Several of our women and others are participating. I urge you, if you aren’t working or have prior commitments, to spend that 30 minutes each Tuesday at 10:00 am to visit and worship with the residents. They love it, and as I have said before, it is a great mission ministry here locally.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, August 13th at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall. Please plan to come and join us as we fellowship with one another and learn about missions. The ladies are all amazing, and we laugh, learn, pray and enjoy one another’s company. You can’t enjoy it if you aren’t there! Please come!

Love in Christ,

Christy Mercer

Youth Report:

First Baptist Youth have again had a good full month of serving and worshiping God. The Youth Group attendance has been good and growing on a steady basis.

We are so excited about Billy Brooks and Hannah Whitley getting baptized on July 22nd. Billy and Hannah’s families were in attendance along with our very supportive First Baptist Church family.

While working with these youth it is incredible to see the Lord Jesus Christ leading His children to salvation. The young spirit in these kids is great by itself but knowing that the decision to accept Christ as Lord and Savior will guarantee going to Heaven and into the open arms of our God is just overwhelming. Congratulations to Billy and Hannah for your GREAT life changing decision.

Our Puppet team has been working hard and we are in the planning stages of preparing a program/play in time for Christmas and everyone is very excited especially the puppets!

The Praise & Worship Band under the direction of Bro. Phil Barksdale has been very busy as well. Practicing & preparing new songs to perform for you on a weekly basis. The Band is very proud of the outpouring of support from the congregation. Being able to use the talents given to us by God to praise our God is a blessing. We are very grateful for everything God does and has done for us.

The majority of the Youth Group met at Beth Prater’s house on the 28th for Beth’s birthday swimming party. The youth had a very good time, the food was GREAT and the new pool was incredible. Thanks goes out to the Praters for allowing everyone to come over and have a good Christian fellowship time together and Congratulations on the new pool you guys did a good job!

On July 29th, 2012 our Youth Group met in the sanctuary with the congregation and enjoyed the "Good News Singers" from Hayti perform several songs. The group put on a very good uplifting Christian concert. We really enjoyed the concert and especially enjoyed getting to hear Bro. Doug let his hair down with some old country gospel singing. We all know how talented Bro. Doug is but after watching him sing with this group and let loose you never know what could be next. If you missed the concert you really missed a good show and blessing from God.

On August 11th we will finally make the trip to Six Flags St. Louis. We will leave early on that Saturday and be gone ALL day so be prepared. We will end the day at a Christian concert featuring a very popular "Third Day". It will be GREAT!!! Remember to pray for a safe trip there and back for those going. It is so good to know that God has First Baptist cupped in His loving hands and holds us up from falling while giving us the strength to get through this time on earth. What a great day it will be when we get to heaven and God says, "Good job come on in!"
