August, 2014

Notes From Bro. Doug:
Sunday August 3rd is Emma Fitzwater’s last Sunday
as our summer intern. She has done a good job again
and we want to thank her with a love offering. So this
Sunday bring a monetary gift or a gift card for the
money/card tree we will give her during the morning
We have come through a slow but productive month
of July. Sunday July 6th you gave very generously on
Gideon Day. Bro. Jim said that 1000's of people will
have the opportunity to see the bibles you bought. I
also want to thank April Davis for teaching Sunday
School and Phillip Barksdale for speaking that Sunday
night. Peggy and I got Josh all settled and we took a
few days of vacation.
We want to thank the Young Adult Sunday School
Class for the monthly SS Fellowship Breakfast. The
fellowship and food was great.
The combined service on the third Sunday night of
the month is continuing to be a huge success. The
youth are playing a prominent role in the worship
service and they are doing a great job under the
direction of Phillip Barksdale.
We want to thank Emma, Connor and Dylan for
taking our 6 kids to children’s camp. They all seemed
to have a great time and plan on attending next year.
Pay close attention to the calendar and look at all
the events that are happening in August. It will be a
busy month with a lot for the whole family to do.
    NEW be praying now!!! Very
soon the active deacons will be asking who senses the Lord’s call
to be a deacon. We will have a list of eligible men to be deacons
in the August 31st bulletin. The deacons going off the rotation are:
Fred Boyd, Jim DeReign and Nathan Pinkerton.
                                                                              Bro. Doug

BACK TO SCHOOL FAMILY FUN by Emma Fitzwater....this Sunday: 3:00 -
5:00 p.m. Food, Fun and Water!!!! for all ages!!

Free Dr. Clinic: Dr. Doug Fitzwater will have his free
clinic in the children’s building on August 2nd from 9:00
am - noon. Anyone can come!!!

New Sound System: the new sound system that was
mostly donated by granddaughters of Calvin House,
has been installed and is working great. There will be a
learning curve on running the new equipment, so be
patient. Phillip Barksdale and Chris Peeler put the
computer up in the balcony and we will have different
ones trained to run the media system. NOW we need
someone willing & faithful teach Sunday to run our
camera system. If interested, see Bro. Doug.

Extreme Arts
On July 12th, we got together with the youth of Kinfolks
Ridge Baptist Church and had a “Fun in the Son Day”! We
played softball, volleyball, dumbkoff ball (see me later for
explanations), and had lots of food and fun. We will be
presenting “People Need the Lord” the musical, with the
Kinfolks Ridge Baptist Church youth team this fall with 2
productions, one at Kinfolks Ridge on November 9th, and
one here at our church on November 16th. We are also
working on a number of skits, human videos, and songs to
be presented over the coming months. The one thing we
are really looking forward to now is our annual music
workshop, which this year will be presented as a “Fine
Arts Boot Camp”. This will take place on August 9th, here
at our church, from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. We will have
games, classes, food, and a lot of time to work on this
special presentation. If you would like to volunteer to help
out on this day with classes, food, cleaning, etc. please let
me know. I can definitely use you, even if you can’t stay
all day!

Common Ground
    FBC’s Praise and Worship Team
Make sure to come to the Sunday morning praise
and worship service, every Sunday morning at 9:00
am in the Memorial Chapel.  We are playing a wide
variety of music, from contemporary praise and
worship to southern gospel to some favorite old
standards! We are also very involved with our
combined worship services which happen every third
Sunday evening in the chapel. These are awesome
services which include the youth and adults
ministering to our church body. Don’t miss out on
these wonderful services.
                    FBC Sanctuary Choir
                   Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm
We have decided, at this time, to postpone our
production of “Bind Us Together” which was
supposed to happen at the end of the summer.
Instead, we are rescheduling it for late spring of 2015.
This will give us time to put together our Christmas
production, which will be titled, “Memories of
Christmas Past”, as well as work more on special
music to present over the next few months. We still
have room for anyone who would like to be involved
with our Sanctuary Choir. There is a special sense of
family and acceptance that comes with being part of a
church choir. It’s not necessarily about how well you
think you can sing, as much as it is your availability to
be used in this ministry. You can be a part of a
thriving and exciting ministry experience with our
Sanctuary Choir...all you have to do is show up!! God
can take even our smallest gifts and make them into
something tremendous, but you have to make
yourself available! Come praise the Lord with us!!

Youth News:
Where did the summer go? Here it is already time to
start getting ready to go back to school. It’s time to go
school shopping and get ready for the first bell of the year.
We wish everyone a safe and great 2014-2015 year!!
Everyone has either been gone on vacation, working,
camp or it seems like something has been going on all
summer. I am thankful that our youth are able to go and do
during the summer. We still have some time left and we
will be making the most of it before school starts back. I
want to thank Pam Bullington, Kristy and Sara for filling
in for me while I have been ill or gone. I have no worries
when y’all are taking care of things.
If you did not know your First Baptist youth have been
putting out the flags at the memorial parks around
Caruthersville for the last two years, to the best of our
ability. So if you see the flags up during Memorial Day,
Fourth of July, Labor Day/911 Remembrance or around the
church there is a good chance your First Baptist youth
group put the flags out and then picked them up as well.
This is just one of our local mission projects to honor our
Veterans now and then for their service and sacrifice to our
great nation.
On Sunday August 10th at 2:00 p.m. we will meet at
Karen and Wayne Smith’s house on Marilyn Drive for our
annual swim party. Each youth is asked to bring a 2 liter
soda or a bag of chips to this event. The youth will provide
the hotdogs and buns. We will swim, eat, make smores by
the fire pit and just have a great time.
We are making plans for a trip back to the Agape
Worship Center on Friday night August 15th for Game
Night and then again on Friday September 19th to see
Royal Tailor in concert. I will be signing those who want
to go and sending out permission slips.
On Saturday August 16th, 2014 we will be making a
trip to Jackson, Tennessee. We will start out at SkyZone at
10:00 and then off to Maggie Moo’s for some ice cream
refreshment, then to the Family Fun Center so we can see
who the laser tag and bowling champions will be this year,
and then either go get something to eat and come home or
maybe a movie?   Depends on what time it is when we get
done at the Fun Center and how much energy we (the
adults) have after this day??? WHEW!! LOL. I will have
your children home by 11:00 p.m. at the latest. MAYBE??
They will need spending money and I am requesting a
$10.00 deposit from everyone who signs up along with a
signed permission slip. We will give the $10.00 back to
them on the day of the event when they show up. This is to
ensure that we have the number of people going who say
they are and the $10.00 will help them to show up. NO
shows lose the $10.00 deposit and it will be put into the
youth fund.
We have been invited to a Jam for Jesus Youth
Explosion in Steele on Saturday September 6th, 2014. I will
be getting with Bro. Phil and we are making plans to attend
this event. They want our talent for that day to showcase
how fortunate we are and blessed to have the people and
the blessings we do in our church. Maybe the men’s
quartet can learn a new song and sing that day?
Also, don’t forget Saturday August 9th, is the Kevin
McCoy Memorial talent/music day that will end with a
concert and singing that Saturday afternoon. If you can
come it is a great day. Come to the concert if you can’t
come that day. See Phil’ notes for more details.
We are planning on making pizzas again Saturday
September 20th. The order forms will be out soon, so make
sure you get your order in. We have decided to only do
pizzas two times a year for a fundraiser. We appreciate all
of your support in all we do. Fill your freezer up, it may be
March before we make again depending on the demand.
We will fill special orders for events if given enough
notice and you need at least 10 -15 pizzas.
We hope to see everyone that has been gone during the
summer start coming back to church and youth. Our
numbers have been down due to summer activities and it’s
time to get back on track and get back in church on
Sundays and Wednesday night (AT LEAST) come give
GOD at least four of your weekly hours. He deserves so
much more, but we will take what we can get.  I encourage
young and old to invite someone to church. You never
know what might happen, they may be waiting for
someone just like you to ask them or mention GOD. Its so
good to see someone accept the Lord into their lives.
Knowing they’re going to heaven and are dedicated to
serving God while on this earth. WOW what a blessing!!
We continue to pray for Renee Young, Elizabeth
Hardesty, The Nieves family and all other issue with our
church family abroad, our community and all unspoken
prayers. We have to pray, prayer is so powerful especially
as a group of believers. God sees and hears our
commitment to him and the love we have in our hearts for
our fellow neighbors along with our brothers and sisters in
Christ. There is POWER in PRAYER!! A special love
prayer for Pam Bullington and her family in the loss of
their daddy, Harold Coram on July 27th, 2014. A memorial
ceremony is planned for Saturday August 2nd, at First
I look forward to seeing all of my youth back in class. I
also welcome those who are moving up. James Prater,
Laura Constant, Will Constant and Darnell Rodgers. These
youth are eligible to go and do activities with us now. We
are excited to have them.
We will continue to teach your children avout GOD and
how GREAT He is. ALL OF THE TIME!!!

                                                With God’s Love,
Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth pastor

age you get a mug, if you give coins per year you get a
pencil. There is a world bank at the pulpit area where
you can put your donation.

Church Tithes
So many of you are giving your tithes & offerings
with faith knowing God will bless you for, as the
Bible says, not robbing Him by not giving Him back
the 10% or more that He requires. So thank you for
your faithful support to FBC.
Remember you might go on vacation or be absent
for a while, but the church expenses still continue.
Please pray about your giving. If God tells you to
not support the general fund of the church through
tithes then don’t, but if He convicts you of your
responsibility to support your church then do that.

First Baptist Church Family,
Thank you once again to the ladies for all the meals you have brought
us. We have been all eating together as a family and your meals have
been a big help. The last meal was like it was on Thanksgiving day.
All the food has been delicious. Vicki Gale, Marilyn Boyd, Pat
Ferrell, christy Mercer, Pam Peeler, Vicky DeReign, Polly
Lunceford. Thank you Barbara Meales for making the cancer caps, I
was so touched. Shelia Brown, thank you so much for sharing Harvey’s
blanket. We were big Elvis fans. I will always remember your sweet
kindness of love. I’ll keep warm during treatments because of you. Also
thanks to the church family for the gift to help with lodging while I get
treatments. This will be a big help. We appreciate you so much!
When treatments begin I will be there 6 weeks with 5 days each week.
I would appreciate a few to visit my Daddy for me.
Thank you for all you do for me especially for your prayers. Please
keep those prayers going for us. I miss paying the organ and piano and
pray I can do it again.
