A Word From Your Pastor:

Welcome to August in the Bootheel. As most of you know I’ve been suffering with a "allergy" situation according to the local physician. Allergies or not it is not a pleasant experience for any of us dealing with this problem. Regardless, time moves on. We have just finished our annual VBS week with success and as I type this article the children are at camp.

Building our Children’s Department is pretty obvious to anyone evaluating our church ministries. I have applied for a bus driver position to get into the school system and build relationships. Our new year starts shortly and we are in need of a Children’s Ministry Director. I hope all of you first of all read this article and secondly begin praying for our children and its next Director.

Children’s Director is a Very important position in the church and we are in need of a Great One to propel us into this next church year and into the future. If we are not growing we begin dying and this is not where Jesus wants us to be. I understand our past fairly well at this point and it’s time to turn the corner and begin growing both in numbers and Spiritually.

August is HOT so prepare for this as you go in your daily routines. Thankfully Jesus has given us the Fall to look forward to shortly. The Fall is awesome and provides relief from the heat and beautiful colors to enjoy before the ugly bare cold winter comes. Have a Happy August and Tell someone about what Jesus has done for you!

In Christ,

Bro. Jimmy

FBC Worship Choir

For Christmas this year, we will be doing a joint production with the choir from North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville. This means there will be two productions, one in Blytheville and one at our church. I’m really looking forward to working with Jim Clark, the minister of music at North 10th Street, and ministering with both choirs.

If you would like to be a part of this musical in anyway - drama, singing, or help with the sets, just let me know. We will be doing the musical, "The Christmas Shoes", based on the song and movie of the same name. We’ll start working on the music this month. I really hope that you will be a part of this special production.

Singing His Praises,

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

Our Tuesday night class will begin meeting again on August 1st at 7:00 PM in the Young Adult classroom. Come and join us as we delve into God’s Word together!

Help Needed:

If you are interested in learning to run sound and multi-media for our evening services, please let me know. I will be offering another training course soon. This is a much needed ministry at our church. Please pray about joining the audio-visual team this year.

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter and put it on the tv announcements.

Extreme Arts

Well, it’s time to get back into the swing of things! Extreme Arts will begin meeting again on August 13th at 4:00 PM. For the Fall, we’ll be doing a musical production of the movie, "A Distant Thunder." This musical takes place in an old church that has been renovated into a prison for believers a few years after the rapture of the church. It’s by far the most dramatic production we’ve ever worked on, and I can’t wait to see how you all tackle this one. It will feature songs by Larry Norman, DC Talk, NF and Crowder.

Also, we’ll be gearing up for our retreat this year, which will be in October at the SEMO Baptist Association campgrounds in Van Buren, MO. Our shirts for the retreat will be in this week. Remember we’re paying for our own shirts this year and the cost is $15.00 per shirt. If you haven’t seen the design yet, I have a picture posted on our facebook page.

We have so much going on this year, I can’t wait to share it all with you. I’ll see you all on August 13th!

VBS News:

Another very successful VBS in the books at First Baptist Church. Our high attendance was Tuesday night with 64 kids and 31 workers. I think a great time was had by all the kids. Please be in prayer for a VBS Director for the next year as I step down from that position. Thanks to the teachers and helpers that made Galactic Starveyors a huge success. Over $600.00 was raised by our kids in the penny offering for the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. This is the largest offering we have ever received in VBS. Competition between the boys and girls spurred the offering, with the girls winning at the last moment. It was fun and is a huge help to the children’s home.

Pam & VBS Team

Hello everyone! June 16 - 18th we took a group to youth camp in Jonathan Creek, KY. This is my 6th year going and it is always a blessing. I’m so very happy that Bro. Jimmy and Susan were able to go for part of the time. This year’s theme was "Outsiders - Citizens of Heaven". We are outsiders because we find meaning and purpose in knowing and pleasing Jesus. I want to thank Bro. Jimmy, Susan, and Sara Riggs for going as chaperones.

July 6th - 7th, we had the opportunity to partner with North 10th St. Baptist in Blytheville to do some work at the Neptune. We had 4 that were available to go help. They did an awesome job. This group revamped the cabana as they replaced the screening and painted. Good job to the ones that could help.

July 13th the youth helped with the Associational Senior Adult luncheon. I thank Sara again for leading the youth while I had to work. She said they worked very hard.

July 16th - 20th we had VBS. Again, so very proud at how much the youth helped. They helped anywhere from registration, to classes, music, and missions. I guess I can’t brag on them enough! These kids have big, servant hearts and they are the future of the church.

We have a back to school pool party planned August 13th at Wayne & Karen Smith’s house.

Please continue to pray for us as we continue with our activities and as we try to build the youth group up.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Thank you to all those who helped in the kitchen during our Vacation Bible School this year, your help made it a great success, also to those who donated food items, thank you for your support.
