A Word From Your Pastor:

Summer vacation is drawing to a close, school will be starting in just a couple of weeks. For us at First Baptist, that means two things, Sunday School commencement and our annual Back 2 School Bash. The Back 2 School Bash is set for August 12 from 4 - 6 PM. This is our chance to be a light to our community. We will have food and fun, but we will also help to meet two critical needs in our community. First, we will be giving out school supplies, which will help meet the needs of many in our town that struggle to provide those things for their children. Second, we will present the gospel to children and adults who may not hear it otherwise.

If you search through the gospels, you will see several instances of Christ meeting a physical need before dealing with the spiritual need. As a matter of fact, if you read Matthew 25, Jesus says that when we help others, we are actually serving Him. He says that if we are following Him, we will feed the hungry, and give help to those in need. This is the true mark of a disciple. Isn’t it amazing that in one afternoon, we have a chance to share the gospel and live the gospel all at the same time? I hope you will do your part for this special event. If you are unable to help buy supplies, then come and help with some of the games, or preparing food. I promise we need all the help we can get for this awesome day of ministry.

Pray for the children and adults that will be in attendance that day, that God will open their hearts and minds to His Word. Our town is hurting in many areas and we are called to be a light, an arrow, that points them toward the Great Physician. Remember the words of our Savior, "..verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matt. 25:40 KJV). I look forward to working with you at the

Back 2 School Bash and I pray that our students will have a wonderful and blessed new school year!

In Christ,

Your Pastor

Christmas Choir

If you like to sing, even if you don’t think you’re very good at it, I have a place for you. I would like to put together a choir to have a great program this year. There is a sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall, so please make sure to sign that. I just want to get an idea of how many we’ll have for this year’s program. Rehearsals will begin later this month. We will have a quick meeting on Wednesday, August 8th after church so we can decide together what time and day would be best for rehearsals. After that, we’ll set a start time. I am also looking for soloists, actors, sound and lights operators, and helpers to build the set and props. Please see me so we can make this year’s production amazing!

Singing His Praises,

HELP Needed

Volunteers needed to help with sound and multi-media. NO experience needed; I will train you to use all equipment. Please get with me if you can help with this important ministry in the church.

If you would like to be put on the calendar for special music, please see Bro. Phil. Share your talents with the church for the glory of God!

Well, it’s that time again! The new season of Extreme Arts begins August 12th, and we’ll kick off this season with an open house on August 12th at 4:00 PM in the fellowship hall. There will be games, food, and fun, so make sure you’re there if you are between 7th and 12th grade and have even the slightest interest in being a part of the youth fine arts ministry here at the church. I’ll be there to answer questions and give you a preview of everything we’ll be doing this year.

I’m very excited about the 2018-2019 season, and I hope you are too. We’ll be working on 2 Extreme: The Musical, which we’ll present on November 11th (the 6th anniversary of the original production), and we’ll be inviting the original cast back to see the new version. Also, we’ll be gearing up for our Fall Retreat which will happen September 7-8 at Reelfoot. Our theme this year will be, "Walk the Talk". T-shirts are $10.00 and I’ll need the money for those by September 7th. A lot going on and this is only for the fall season. There will be a lot more going on in the Spring, but I’ll save that for later. I can’t wait to get started!!!

Hello everyone! I apologize for missing the last 2 newsletters, so I will catch everyone up. We went to Crossings Youth Camp in Jonathan Creek, KY June 6 -11. We took a total of 12 people. This is probably the best camp week I’ve ever experienced. The kids were awesome, we had awesome bible study time, and of course a great camp pastor, Roger Palmer. To see how the entire camp responded to the Holy Spirit that week was amazing. We had 3 make public decisions, but during our group time and after much discussion, we had more that committed. I’m also very glad that my daughter, Sara could come home to go with us. She really is a great leader. I want to say thank you to the ones that sponsored some of the youth. We have a very loving church body that really wants to make sure that no one misses out getting to go to camp. But also, everyone that supports us throughout the year as we raise money to go. Next year, Crossing is changing things up a bit. They are going to a 5 day camp instead of 6. This will help elevate some of the costs of camp.

We will have a lock-in the night of August 10th. This lock-in will serve two purposes..1. we will get ready for our youth lead service on October 14th. 2. We are still working on getting a judgement house ready. This is something the youth are very passionate about doing. We will work on getting a plan together. Then we will have a church wide meeting to present it to see if we will have enough help. This will be a very big project so it will take more than just the youth to do it. I was thinking, since this would be our first year, that maybe we will just do a couple of nights to start out. These nights will be in October.

August 11th, we will have our back to school swim party at the home of Wayne and Karen Smith. We will go there around 10 and swim until everyone gets tired.

For any youth that doesn’t know yet, we have moved to another room. We are now downstairs in the old Bethany Classroom (across from the office).

Please pray for us as we prepare for our upcoming events.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs
