Notes From Bro. Doug:

Wow what a Revival!! The Lord used David Ring in a mighty way and we will certainly see the harvest in the next few months and next year. Thanks for the ones who supported the revival and David wants me to thank you for a very huge and generous love offering.

Peggy and I want to thank you for the pastor appreciation love offering. It is so wonderful being the pastor at FBC and I know that together we all can see great things happen for the Kingdom of God.

Even though the Matthew parties were a bust, we will continue to find ways that you as a church body will support to win people to the Lord.

The Vision/Dream night was a success. You gave voice to many things that the Lord has placed on your heart and on your mind. Keep the suggestions and encouragement coming.

A huge thanks to all who helped with the annual community Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving day. This is a great ministry for our churches to come together and minister.

Sunday night Dec. 1st during the evening service we will have our annual missions emphasis night in the chapel at 5:00 pm. Make plans to pray for all our missionaries during the Week of Prayer for International Missions. You will receive a prayer guide on Sunday Dec. 1st. We will take up our Lottie Moon Christmas offering on Dec. 8th.

If you would like to help assemble the CMA Christmas baskets, come to the former Oasis Worship building across from the Methodist church at 8:00 am on Dec. 5th.

Would your family like to light an Advent candle? We will start lighting the candles on Sunday morning Dec. 1st. The Christ candle will be lit during the Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24th at 5:00 pm.

CHRISTMAS PARTY...Elizabeth Hardesty has invited all adults to a Christmas party at her home at 610 Carleton. Bring snack food and the party starts at 6:30 pm, Dec. 13th . The youth will take care of your kids for you at the church from 6:15 - 8:00 pm for a donation of any size and this will include snacks for the kids.

The church voted to close the office on Fridays. So Brenda will no longer be at the church office from 8:00 am - noon on Fridays. The office hours will be Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 2:30 pm.

We will be leaving for the Senior Adult Fellowship at Hayti FBC on Dec. 12th at 10:30.

I hope everyone will be having a wonderful Thanksgiving season. We have so much to be thankful for and let’s pray for God’s continued blessings.

Bro. Doug

Women On Mission News:

Thanksgiving is here and we have much to be thankful for! The ladies are busy working on Lottie Moon mission fundraising projects and having fun in the process! We want to thank everyone who helped and participated in the Chili Cook-Off in October as FBC brought home the People’s Choice Trophy! It was a fun day to be in the community showing how much fun it is to be a Christian and to enjoy fellowship with other Christians! We continue into our December festivities with the annual "Merry Market" on Saturday, December 7 starting at 10:00 am. We’ll have lots of "goodies" for purchase, including baked goodies, homemade jams and salsa, and many other treats! Come join us and then end the event enjoying the Christmas parade on the front lawn. We will have a booth set up outside with hot dogs, sweet treats and hot chocolate! It will be a fun day and all proceeds will go to our Lottie Moon Christmas offering. If you have anything you’d like to donate, please see one of the ladies.

The ladies Bible Study is going great. Monday, the 25th of November the Bible Study will continue at 6:30 at Marilyn Boyd’s house. This is a wonderful study and all ladies are invited to attend. If you missed the first night, just come on and pick up where we are now. We can still get copies of the book, so don’t let anything keep you from this wonderful time of study and fellowship.

We will have the red votive candles for sale starting in December. Each candle can be given in memory of or in honor of a loved one. The cost of the votives is $25.00 each and Brenda will put the names for those purchased in our weekly bulletins. The votives will be put in the side windows of the sanctuary and are beautiful when lit at our Christmas Eve service. Last year we had over 150!

We are excited that GA/RA group and Kristy’s group are working on Lottie Moon projects as well. I believe one of the groups will be selling homemade hot chocolate mix and the GA/RA group is doing "chores for a quarter" . You may need a "chore" done at your house! It’s great to be involved in such worth while activities and projects as we work to keep sending and keeping our missionaries on the field to keep spreading the Gospel. If you have a project you would like to do to help us meet our goal, please let any of us know.

Don’t forget the turkey sale is still set for Tuesday, Nov. 26. We have sold 11 turkeys to date, with 7 left to sell. Bro. Doug will smoke the turkeys on Tuesday and Bill Mercer and others will be wrapping and delivering them to their Thanksgiving homes! You may not need a turkey for your meal, but there may be others who can’t afford a meal, and you could donate one to that. God loves a cheerful giver! We have many in our community in need, or sick so this would be a great way to minister to them and get a delicious turkey too!

We’re looking forward to the Billy Crocker "Cook-off" this Sunday night November 24th at 5:00 pm. Who will take home the championship this year? Carson Constant is our defending champion. Will it be chocolate covered bacon this year?

Isn’t God good?

Love, Christy, Pam and Peggy

Don't forget the birthday offering for the Missouri Baptist Children's home! All proceeds will be sent to the MBCH in December to help with Christmas. It's strictly voluntary, and once a year to donate so please participate if you can! if you give $1 per year of your age you get a mug, if you give coins per year you get a pencil. There is a world bank at the pulpit area where you can put your donation.

Youth Report:

First Baptist Monthly Youth Newsletter November 2013
Well the time has changed, the Tigers are finished for the season and the leaves are falling. Must be close to winter time. So bundle up and spend your extra time reading your Bible and learning about God. It’s #1 on the all time Christian belief book sales.
The Youth Group has been mainly focused on our weekly Bible lessons from our books and then the conversations and debates over what is happening in the world around us. What’s right and what’s really wrong!!

You would be surprised on how some of the Youth see our future, and then there are some who are way out of touch with what is going on around them. I fully believe in trying to protect our children from the ""bad"" things, however society has and is not helping spread the good news of how to get to Heaven or telling the lost about the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ who gave his life for us on the cross.

We have been asked by several about raking leaves and helping get the outsides of homes ready for winter. If you have a request or need something done see me or any of the Youth Committee members or youth members with your request. We will have a form put in the bulletin and we will TRY to get to each person’’s need.

We have at least two youth who are ready to be baptized just as soon as we can get a date. We are so excited for them and the decisions they have made. It is the best and biggest decision they will ever make in their lives.

It is so simple to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, to believe he died for us and then rose again to have ever lasting life in Heaven. I say it’s so simple but there are many who have a very hard time making that last step in their salvation and that is where we come in. Tell them about Jesus, invite them to church or by telling them that Jesus loves them and they are never alone could be the small step toward helping the lost find their way.

We are getting ready for Thanksgiving and have been talking about how blessed we are to have the things in life we do in comparison with other places around the world. I think it’s important for our Youth to realize how lucky we are to live in a free nation, to have the safe food and water supplies we have at our fingertips not to mention the way we live and the nice homes we have. You can really see them thinking about this issue especially when you show them how people live in third world countries.

We want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas. I figure the next news letter will either be right at Christmas time or a little after. So remember, just as we tell the youth, what Christmas time is and should really be about, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember to tell the story and make sure that children, youth and people of all ages know why we should be celebrating Christmas.

We have had a good year. We will be planning a Youth Christmas party at the church and will be getting ready to go see the Singing Christmas Tree at Bellview Baptist Church in Memphis sometime in December.

We are going to try and sneak in a pizza making day soon, so if you are one of our pizza customers/supporters please be thinking of what you will want and make sure to fill out the form when they come out. This will be a make the pizzas and you pick up on the same day.

We will also be helping with the Christmas parade in Caruthersville to hand out the winter clothing items you have brought to the church for the parade. If you have not brought anything you still have time.

Please continue to pray for us and our youth as we move forward in the spiritual needs of the young minds and lives. We love our church family very much and can’t thank you enough for the continued support you have shown us.

With Love,
Chris & Kristy Riggs
Youth Pastor

FBC Adult Choir

Sunday Nights at 7pm

The FBC adult choir will be presenting "A Smoky Mountain Christmas: The Gift" on December 22nd at 5:00 pm. This will be followed by a "Down Home Family Christmas Party" in the fellowship hall. There will be games, music, and great food, including, hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee and all your favorite Christmas desserts! You do not want to miss this awesome evening. Invite the whole family for a night of food, fun, fellowship and music!!

Music Notes:

Wow! November was a busy month!! I was very happy to have been invited to lead music at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter, MO for their revival last week with Bro. Doug doing the preaching! What an awesome bunch of people!! They served us food each night and just really showed us all so much love!! Thanks to Connor Barksdale and Bill Mercer for coming out to sing. Big thanks also to Erin Barksdale for helping to run powerpoints, singing and being my "roadie" for the entire week! Thanks Holly Grove and Brother Lew for allowing us to come in and minister and for ministering to us through all the great food and fellowship.

Right after that came our revival. I was only there for Sunday, but what a great couple of services!! I’m still a little shaken about the "lesson of the cup". Everyone who was there knows what I’m talking about. If you weren’t there, you will have to ask someone else. I think of how the good people at Holly Grove had been so gracious in serving me for the four nights prior to our revival and how grateful I was for their service, then I ask myself, why didn’t I get out of my seat? Lord, help me to be a good servant! Keep showing me more and more ways that I can serve you, by serving my brothers and sisters in Christ!

Soli Deo Gloria, Phil

Children On Mission Group

Children on mission are doing chores for their moms and will earn a quarter for each chore. The money they save will go to Lottie Moon. So if you know any of these kids you might ask them to do a chore for you so they can learn the importance of giving to missions!!
