Notes From Bro. Doug:

The representatives wanted me to tell you thank you for your sweet spirit and generosity. Bro. Wayne came back Monday and we talked and had lunch. He was very complimentary toward our pastor/congregation relationship. He says that is somewhat rare now days and that some pastors seem like visitors in their church. Again they were so appreciative for your generosity.

With that generosity flowing, let’s really step up and reach our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal of $10,000.00. Our Women On Mission are working hard in leading us to reach our goal. Please support the Merry Mart and the Christmas Parade Chili Luncheon. Give items for the Merry Mart, buy gifts for Christmas, bring desserts for the luncheon and give out as many advertisement cards as you can and come eat some chili. Of course give generously on Dec. 6th as we take up the offering. Make sure you get your prayer guide on Sunday Nov. 29th. That will start the week of prayer for the International Mission Board and all the missionaries we support.

Your generosity is also very evident with the giving of the shoe box ministry. You have given over 135 boxes and that will mean many children will be blessed for Christmas and the gospel will be given to them. Thank you and God will continue to bless you for your kindness and compassion.

We will start lighting the Advent Candle on Sunday Nov. 29th. If you want your family to be a part of the candle lighting service, see the pastor.

We will not have services on the 25th of Nov.. Have a great time with your family. Try to find someone to bless this Thanksgiving.

YOU CAN HELP with the Community Thanksgiving Meal by making desserts. Take the desserts all day Wednesday to Temple Baptist Church or take them on Thanksgiving Day. You also can help serve and clean. Be at Temple Baptist after 8:00 am and cleaning should be done by 2:00 pm. The meal is served from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and everyone is welcome to come.

Our secretary’s birthday is Dec. 9th. She will not be working that day because I give her the day off on her birthday. So call or bring a card before that day.

From the staff of First Baptist Church, we extend a huge Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Bro. Doug

Women On Mission:

Greetings from WOM. The holidays are upon us and everyone is busy, busy and more busy. Our monthly meeting was held on the 16th of November with a very good group of ladies. The main topic of our meeting was the Merry Mart, Chili dinner, Christmas Ornaments and Lottie Moon offering. The chili dinner for the public is being held in conjunction with the Merry Mart. We are still in need of volunteers to help with these up coming events. Let me know if you would be willing to give some time to this cause. If you can devote just a few hours it will be a huge help. During the week of December 1-4 we will be working, at night, at the church to get all the items ready for the Merry Mart. If you have not yet gotten your items to the church, please get them there in the next week. If you need them picked up, just contact me or the church and someone will be by to get them. Take into consideration that any items you give is helping to keep our missionaries on the field. All items are appreciated. Ladies, we need baked goods for the Chili dinner and bake sale for the Merry Mart. If you will, let me know what you can bring. Our goal is $10,000 dollars and it is going to take lots of work this year to make the goal. Thanks to all who made Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes and especially to those who donated transportation funds. One is as important as the other. Beginning the first of the year a new list will be out for each month and what we will be collecting for the boxes next year. Your donated items came in very handy in helping to fill boxes from the Church and extra filling in other boxes. I will try and coordinate items with the season and what may be on sale. If you keep a lookout on clearance items after the holidays you will get some good bargains for the boxes. If you don't want to store them, bring your items to the fellowship hall and put in our plastic containers. I encourage all ladies to please give our WOM a visit. You may have just the idea or suggestion we need for projects in the future. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Mission Leader and WOM director. Remember, You're never more like Jesus than when you're serving. Who or what are you serving today?

FBC Caruthersville Christmas Extravaganza!

On December 20th, we will have a wonderful night of music, drama, food, fun and fellowship! This will feature the FBC Worship Choir, Extreme Arts, and the FBC Children’s Choir. It all starts at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. The Children’s Choir will present a mini-musical, then the FBC Worship Choir will present the cantata, "The Hope of Christmas: Sing Noel". After this, we will go to the fellowship hall for a potluck Christmas dessert and snack fellowship. Extreme Arts will perform a skit especially for the children and a song to remind us of what Christmas should be about. We will also have some games and prizes. This will take place on the third Sunday of the month, which you know is always our creative Sunday. This is why I feel it is important that all our choirs be involved. I am really looking forward to this wonderful night of family and celebration of the greatest gift we have ever been given, the Lord Jesus Christ. Please come and join us and don’t forget to bring something for the potluck. Please bring candies, desserts, treats, finger food, egg nog, cider, hot cocoa...just whatever you would have for your Christmas party. Any of those things would be exactly what we are hoping for.

Christmas Eve Service

We will once again host a special Christmas Eve Service for our community at 5:00 pm on Christmas Eve. If you would like to be a part of this service, whether it is reading scripture, playing an instrument or singing a solo, please get with me or Bro. Doug as soon as possible so we can get you down.

Extreme Arts & FBC Worship Choir:

We will be having our Christmas party on December 19th. Once again, we will meet at the church at around 5:00 pm to go caroling at the nursing home. After that, we will come back to the church for a quick dress rehearsal for Sunday evening’s cantata, then we will have our time together for our Christmas party. Please remember to get your gift and bring it by then for our gift swap. The maximum amount to spend is $20.00. You can spend less than that, but please don’t spend more. I will decorate the choir room after Thanksgiving and you can feel free to bring your wrapped gift to place under our tree until the night of our party. Here is our rehearsal schedule for December:

Dec. 2nd: FBC Worship Choir after church

Dec. 6th: Extreme Arts 5:00 pm

Dec. 9th: FBC Worship Choir after church

Friday Dec.18th: 6:00 pm Full Dress Rehearsal Extreme Arts

Saturday Dec.19th: 5:00 pm Caroling at nursing home

7:30 pm Christmas party

Please do your best to be at every rehearsal. We need everyone!!!

Youth News:

Hello everyone. Things have slowed down a little as we are getting ready for Thanksgiving. As I reflect on this season, I’m so thankful for my family, my church family but especially these youth. I love them all like they were my own.

October 25th was our youth led service and all I can say is WOW! This was such a blessed day. The kids did an awesome job! We had Jessica Bullington as our worship leader, Tatum Riggs did our announcements and testimonies, Laura Constant sang a very moving song that she dedicated to Carson Constant, Lane King did our children’s sermon. Then Darnelle "Snoop" Rodgers delivered an awesome message titled, "Our Worth". All the other youth handed out bulletins and took up the offering. I can not express how proud of them I was.

October 28th, we went to Holy Hills Baptist Church in Dyersburg for another judgement house. Why go to 2 judgement houses? Because we had some that didn’t get to go to the first judgement house. This was Holy Hills first time presenting the judgement house and it was awesome.

We had the honor of putting out the small flags around town for Veteran’s Day. We thank the veterans so much for their unconditional service to our country. We also carried the large flags in our morning worship for our Veteran’s Day service on November 8th.

Friday, November 13th I took 4 youth to FBC in Hayti for a Dnow (Discipleship Now) weekend. I heard it was absolutely great! They had a group of people from UT Martin come and lead all the Bible studies, worship time and deliver the message. I want to thank them for taking the time to put this together and for inviting us.

The month of December we are starting a 5 week study on the book of James. This study focuses on the "How To’s" in following Jesus Christ. Students will be motivated to pursue a life characterized by following hard after God in very practical ways. We have also been continuing the weekly Bible reading plan.

Other upcoming dates...November 22nd, we will deliver the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes to the Methodist church. I need everyone to be at the church at 1:00 pm. Very soon we will start helping to finish the scarves for the Christmas parade. We will also be handing out a brochure at the parade with the six points of the gospel that we received from Crossings. December 12th we will go to The Singing Christmas Tree in Memphis. Tickets are $20.00 and there is a sign up sheet in the youth room. On December 19th, we will be at Wal-Mart in Caruthersville wrapping presents and possibly ringing the bell for Salvation Army. We will have more info on that later. Also, our Christmas party is slated for December 23rd as of right now.

I want to ask everyone to continue to pray for Carson Constant as he is in Le Bonheur hospital right now. Please continue to pray for us as we lead these youth.

God Bless,

Kristy and Chris Riggs

Please turn ALL charge tickets from Hays, The Store or any others so that we can determine what accounts to pay them from. There is a container in the fellowship hall on the counter for these receipts or you may drop them by the office or give them to Bro. Doug.
