December, 2016

Bro. Don Says:

The month of December brings on a lot of things, it is an exciting, busy and sometimes frustrating time. We need to make sure that we remind each other, that the most exciting thing is that, in this month we celebrate the birth of a saviour whose name is JESUS. When we wish people a Merry CHRISTMAS, we need to make sure that we emphasize that the CHRIST CHILD, is the reason for the Season. Matthew 1:21 And she (Mary) shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

As I think about the Joy that seems to be better at this time of year, I am amazed that a lost person can remain lost, as everywhere we go, they are playing Christmas songs that tells the story about the birth of a saviour. It is my desire & prayer, that at First Baptist, I can bring words of comfort, encouragement, & hope as you search for your next Pastor. As we wind down the year. We should have taken care of the things that really matter, and the most important thing in life is your relationship with Jesus Christ as a personal Saviour.

Merry Christmas,
Bro. Don Layman

FBC Worship Choir

The choir is going to present selections from the Christmas Cantata, "He Is Here" by Dennis and Nan Allen during the morning service on December 18th. We are incorporating this into the worship service that I hope will make for a wonderful Christmas celebration. This will feature Christmas hymns, traditional favorites, and songs by the Gaither Vocal Band, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Casting Crowns. We hope you will join us for worship that morning as we kick off our Christmas Spectacular.

Singing His Praises,

Extreme Arts & FBC Worship Choir:

The Christmas Spectacular continues Sunday evening around 6:15 pm (directly after the Children’s Choir presentation) as Extreme Arts presents, "A Charlie Brown Christmas Redux". This is our take on the classic Christmas Special by Charles Schultz that will be celebrating its 51st anniversary this year! We’ve tweaked it just a bit to fit our group’s size and diversity, and have added some modern Christmas songs just to add to the excitement. We hope you will bring your whole family to this very special production. It will feature songs by Tobymac, Mandisa, Jamie Grace, and Kari Hope, as well as the Charlie Brown Christmas traditions and melodies we all have known and loved for all these years.

Christmas Spectacular!

This year, December 18th, the FBC Music Department will be presenting a Christmas Spectacular! It all begins that morning at 10:30 with the FBC Worship Choir’s presentation of selections from Dennis and Nan Allen’s, "He Is Here". Then at 6:00 pm, the Children’s Choir, under the direction of Amanda Maclin, will present a small musical entitled, "Tell the Good News". Right after that, the youth fine arts team, Extreme Arts, will present, "A Charlie Brown Christmas Redux", but it doesn’t end there.

Immediately after that, we will meet in the fellowship hall for our 3rd annual Christmas Extravaganza. This is our church Christmas party. It is a potluck event where you are invited to bring your favorite Christmas desserts, candies, and finger foods. We will also have apple cider, hot chocolate, and coffee. There will also be games, prizes, and music to end a wonderful day of celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We hope you will attend everything that day, as you will not want to miss this!

Annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

This Christmas Eve, we will meet again at 5:00 pm in the sanctuary for a special community candlelight service. We still need people to help with scripture readings & special music. If you or anyone in your family is interested in doing any of these things, please let me know as soon as possible, so I can get you on the program.

Thanks, Phil

Christmas Day Service

This year, Christmas is on Sunday. There will be NO Sunday School that morning, but we will be meeting for a time of devotion and prayer in a "come as you are" service in the fellowship hall from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Coffee & donuts will be provided. All others classes and evening services are canceled that day. Come meet with us as we gather together to remember the true reason for the season, our Lord, Jesus Christ!

Women On Mission:

We trust everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and now gearing up for a busy Christmas season. I trust you are enjoying the nativity set that is gracing our yard, made possible by many loving donations. A shout out for Bill Mercer and his son, Jason for getting the stable put together and put into place. I have had many compliments on the display so far and hope that the set will speak to hearts about the real meaning of Christmas. If you would be interested in purchasing a banner for the stage area beside the Baptistery, please let me know. We are wanting to have some up for each season of the year.

WOM will be busy cleaning rooms in the church and removing things no longer needed. If you have anything that you are wanting to keep, that belongs to you personally, you may want to take it home or make sure it is put up properly and out of the way. We have a beautiful church and want to keep it that way.

Please continue to pray for our church and the pulpit committee while we are going through this transition period, we certainly want to thank Bro. Don Layman for filling the pulpit for us, he does a wonderful job with his inspiring messages.

We sent 66 Samaritan boxes out and now concentrating on boxes for the foster kids for their Christmas party. Be sure and watch for clearance items after Christmas for your boxes next year. I challenge you to do a box each month. Sometimes what is easier is to fix several boxes alike, either boy or girl.

Lottie Moon is coming up soon. I can’t stress enough about sacrificial giving to this offering. Our missionaries depend on us. Let’s do what we can and above. Merry Christmas to All from WOM.
