February, 2015

Notes From Bro. Doug:

The theme for FBC in 2015 is "Finding Victories" and we have jumped off to a big start. January was a very busy month and Jesus was Exalted in many ways. We had some of our children accept Christ as Lord and Savior and we will have a baptismal service on Feb. 8th. The January Bible study got off to a great start and we are gleaning from the book of Deuteronomy. Dr. Fitzwater continues with his monthly FREE Dr.’s Clinic in our children’s building. The church voted to start a Church Council and we had our first meeting on Jan. 5th. We will meet every first Monday night of each month at 7:00 pm in the fellowship hall. We will be primarily concentrating on effective calendaring between departments and groups. Brenda Sides started her 25th year as our church secretary. The Bullington Sunday School class hosted our quarterly Sunday School fellowship breakfast with plenty of great food. We had the biggest crowd in our monthly potluck meal and business meeting that we have in awhile. The assoc. Sno-Country Singing was a huge success and FBC was thrilled to host it this year. We enjoyed a great singing with the group "Blend" and our youth choir "Extreme Arts" did a wonderful job too. The deacons had a good trip to Reelfoot Lake and enjoyed a fellowship meal at Boyettes. The S.O.U.P. (Sixty On UP) group had a great meal and planned some outing for 2015. The youth group had a pizza sale and then delivered meals to our senior adults at FBC. Men’s Day was a huge success. And the young adult Sunday School class will have a party at the parsonage on Jan. 31st. Tons of Victories already and its only January.

Extreme Arts

FBC Youth Fine Arts Team

We have begun working on a musical called, "Live It to the Max!" to be presented this Spring. This is a totally fun and Rad musical set in the 80's! I know, I know, we’ve done that before! This one really goes all out, though! The music is an awesome mix of 80's Pop, Gospel, Rock and even a 60's style medley. The hair will be big, the colors bright and the music fun! This is probably the easiest musical that we’ve ever done; however, it is also a very powerful production that will challenge you and encourage you to live life the way God intended you to...to the MAX!! We still have plenty of room for new members! You cannot say that this is not your thing if you’ve never tried it! This is an awesome group and ministry to be a part of. We have a big year ahead packed with lots of cool stuff! More on that later. Let me just say that if you have been thinking about giving Extreme Arts a try, this is the year to do it!!

See you Sunday at 4:00 pm

FBC Sanctuary Choir Sunday nights @ 6:00 pm

As many of you know, at our last business meeting a big decision was made about the choir. The choir will no longer be present on Sunday mornings to lead the congregation in singing. However, the choir is still a functioning and vital part of the music ministry of the church. We will still be doing cantatas and musicals, as well as special music from time to time. I’m hoping that this would allow some of you who would like to be a part of a special project like a Christmas musical, but cannot commit to singing with us every Sunday morning, to finally be able to do so. For those special projects, I will announce it and ask for anyone who is interested to come to the first rehearsal. These rehearsals will be Sunday nights after church up until the time we present the project. If you have never been a part of one of our productions, I sincerely

hope you will do so. Our first project will be an Easter worship service for Easter Sunday morning. We will be using the mini-cantata, "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power" by Luke Gambill and Jonathan Crumpton. It is built around the Andrea Crouch Classic and also includes some other wonderful songs and hymns. If you would like to be a part of this, please let me know as soon as possible, so that I can get you a book and CD to practice with. Our first group rehearsal will be on February 1st, after church. Please don’t let anything hold you back from joining us for this powerful service. God gave you talent for a reason and that is to use it for His glory! This could be a wonderful opportunity to do just that! There are many areas where your availability could be utilized. Maybe you’re not much on singing, but you like drama or doing things behind the scenes. I definitely have a place to use you in this special presentation. Singing His Praises

Women On Mission:

Easter is just around the corner which means the WOM will be busy providing baskets to all the foster children of Pemiscot County. We will be taking a different approach this year to individualize the baskets according to gender and age. Within the next few weeks our plan will be announced. WOM wants to open the opportunity for all church members and visitors to participate in this. I was told by Division of Family Services that what we provide to the foster children at Easter is usually all the children get. This kind of puts thing in perspective as to the need that is out there.

WOM is open for ladies of all ages, please come and try a couple of meetings; the next meeting is February 9th. We are always in need of new ideas and you may have just what we need to get WOM up and going with awesome ideas...

Common Ground

FBC’s Praise TeamCommon Ground is off and running!! Though we no longer have the 9:00 am morning Devotional service, we still have a lot to do!! Beginning this year, our 3rd Sunday Creative worship services will now be known as Creative Sundays! Common Ground will lead the worship in both the AM and PM services on those Sundays. This will also give us a chance to feature skits and songs from Extreme Arts and other special services as well. This past month, our creative worship night featured the acappella vocal group, "Blend" for a fun night of music and fellowship. Our first creative Sunday will be on February 15th and both services will be in the sanctuary. I am so excited about what God will do through our ministry this year! We are also looking for musicians to join our group. We especially need a bass player and guitarist. God gave you talent to use for His glory! We hope you will consider using it in our ministry here at church! If that’s you, just get with me to set up an audition/meeting.

Singing His Praises,

Phil

Children’s Missions (Formerly GA’s & RA’s)

Our new year is in full swing with the children’s missions class. On January 14th, we had an all-time high of 16 children in attendance! Paige Gillock and Michael Santschi are teaching t

e area and church attending children many of the fundamental Bible stories we are all acquainted with. We have started a new unit on Super Heros of the Bible, the kids are excited and so are we! The children are also learning about what missionary families are doing for the Lord in other countries around the world.

We’d love for your little ones up to 4th grade to join us every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.

Please pray for Paige & Michael and the children they serve.
