Notes From Bro. Doug:

June was full and productive. The youth went to Jonathan Creek Camp and God did some mighty things. There were 33 first-time decisions for Christ as Savior, 67 calls to full-time vocational ministry and $5,658.18 was given by the students to the Crossings Ministry’s Haiti fund. One of the decisions for Christ was from FBC. PTL!! The youth did an awesome job at the Afterglow Service on June 17th.

Then our Amazing Wonders Aviation Vacation Bible School was a huge success too!! We started out with a VBS recruitment blitz. A thanks goes to Janice Bell and Melissa McClain for taking on that task. They will also take over the VBS director’s position next year. We had 1 decision for Christ and many seeds planted. We averaged 77 each night with a high one night of 97. The meal and commencement service was a huge success with over 150 students & parents attending. The pool party was packed from wall to wall. A huge thanks to everyone who helped in Big ways and small ways!!!

It’s with great regret that we are closing the Heavenly Delight Family Diner on Wednesdays, but it has taken it’s course and the time and expense spent buying food, supplies & cooking will be used elsewhere. Thanks to all those who supported this ministry and much fellowship & family convenience came from this ministry.

On July 15 we will watch a movie called "Escape From Hell" we will watch the movie at the 6:00 pm worship time and it will last for 73 minutes. I am having all age groups participate but it does get slightly graphic when it depicts hell. So parents use your judgment. It will leave everyone thinking about their walk with Christ.

On July 17th we will restart the FBC Caruthersville Nursing home services. We will join together at 10:00 am for a great time of worship and singing.

I hope you will join us on July 22nd at 6:00 pm as we send out Emma Fitzwater & Peggy Boyd on their mission trip. Let’s send them out with our blessings.

On July 29th we will have a 5th Sunday Singing with the "Good News Singers" from Hayti. The concert will be at 6:00 pm and a snack fellowship will follow. Please bring your favorite finger/snack food and plan to worship with us.

We are hoping to have a weekend youth revival set-up in August, so watch for more information.

It’s Great to Be Your Pastor!

Bro. Doug

If you have any announcements to be on the Sunday morning power point, please have your information turned in by Thursday noon. Thanks!

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter.

Women On Mission:

The next Women on Mission meeting will be held July 9, at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall. All ladies are invited to attend as we prepare for the ice cream social following the July 22 (evening) commissioning service for Peggy and Emma before they leave for India! As a church body, we should all be in constant prayer for Peggy and Emma as they embark on a challenging, but blessing filled mission. Praying should be our biggest contribution to these ladies as we send them out to do God’s will. There are lists around the church of "wants" by Laura, and "needs" for their supplies. Having been on several mission trips, I know how much of a luxury those "wants" are, so please grab a list and bring a couple of things that Peggy and Emma can surprise Laura with when they get there! I know she will love and appreciate anything that makes her think and "smell" of home. The proceeds of the ice cream social will go toward our Lottie Moon Christmas offering, so join us for the commissioning (bring cards that they can read each day on their trip).

Bro. Doug will be partnering with the WOM to continue the nursing home mission each Tuesday at 10:00 am beginning July 17. He will be taking care of the music and devotion, so please meet us there! This is a way you can stay close to home and contribute to a great local mission. The residents love the company, and I’m sure there is someone out there each of us knows.

We will begin Fall planning as well as we continue to do mission work here at home and abroad.

Love in Christ,

Christy Mercer

Youth Report:

Well another month has flown by and your Youth Group here at First Baptist has had a very busy month.

We started out the month of June getting ready for Crossings Camp at Jonathan Creek. On June 10th, we took 13 youth and 4 counselors, Kristy Riggs, Angie Constant, Emma Fitzwater and Josh Boyd to camp. While at camp we had one youth come to Christ and one rededication. The week was a great week for those attending camp. To say the least it was HOT and we almost got blown away during a severe thunderstorm to start the week! The youth entered the lake race with our own S.S. First Baptist which Captain Bacon "Carson Constant" was the man in charge of our vessel. I don’t think we did very well but we had a lot of fun with our pirate flags rooting for Captain Bacon on while on the lake. Carson was a good sport and went down with the ship and the larks didn’t eat him! Several of the youth entered the talent contest at camp and as you know we have several very talented youth in our youth group. One issue for us flatlanders were them Kentucky hills. Back and forth, back and forth, "WHEW! Other than that the camp was great and the youth had a GREAT time. We want to thank our church family and all of those who supported our fundraising efforts for camp this year.

On Sunday June 17th we were in charge of Sunday night service and we gave a report of what happened while at camp and several of the youth gave their testimony about their experience at Jonathan Creek. The band "The Unexpected" gave their debut performance at this service and they were GREAT! The band is made up of Sara Riggs, Josh Boyd, Dylan Treece and Jody (on bass). We showed a powerpoint presentation put together by Emma Fitzwater that included photos to music from camp.

VBS started on June 18th and this year we had a youth class with Emma Fitzwater as the teacher. We had between 15 and 20 youth in attendance each night. The Bible study was awesome and the youth put together a skit "Set Me Free" in which they performed the skit at VBS commencement. The skit was very moving, dramatic and emotional. The youth did an AWESOME job with the skit and showed us how the devil has a hold on so many yet the answer to it all is to accept Jesus into your life and live for God and that old devil doesn’t stand a chance.

The youth who qualified then went swimming at the Neptune Pool with the other VBS participants. We had a good time at the pool and thanks to all of those who worked so hard during the VBS week to make everything happen. A big thanks to Deacon Dr. Doug Fitzwater for providing the chicken strip/tater log meal for the youth. They loved it and it was mmmm mmm GOOD! Thanks Doc!

The Praise and Worship band known as "Common Ground" which is lead by Phillip Barksdale was in charge of music on June 24th Sunday morning worship service. The band performed three songs which went very well and was well received by the congregation. The band also includes Amanda Maclin, Chris Riggs, Beth Prater, Sara Riggs, Dylan Treece, Connor Barksdale. Read Psalm 98:1 & 4, 47:1 & 6, 95:1.

Summer is here and we are going to take a break from Jamming with Jesus on Wednesday evenings, services start at 7:00. We are looking at other options of worship and will be letting everyone know what we come up with. We still have Youth Group on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm and Sunday’s at 9:30 am and at 6:00 pm.

Plans are still ongoing for our trip to St. Louis Six-Flags in August. The youth that plan on attending this event need to get their $45.00 paid as soon as possible. The $45.00 will get you in the gate and also included a 2 hour dining experience at the famous chicken house at Six-Flags. The very popular Christian band "Third Day" will be on hand and your $45.00 will get you into the concert that night.

We are continuing to teach these youth about God and what is expected of them as young Christians. The devil is everywhere. We pray that our youth are building a strong relationship with God and their strong faith will get them through some tough times.

We want our youth to know that their family here at First Baptist is always here for them and will support them in any positive way possible. We want to lead all of our youth to salvation however saving one at a time is considered a success and an blessing from God. God bless us and watch over us all.

Chris & Kristy Riggs
