July, 2013

Notes From Bro. Doug: Wow the month of June has been fast and fruitful. The biggest news is the awesome turnout for VBS. We had tons of kids and tons of helpers. A huge thanks goes out to Co-Directors Janice Bell and Melissa McClain and all who helped make VBS 2013 a huge success.

There were 9 participants who graduated our Spring "Share Jesus Without Fear" class. We have even seen one salvation as a result of many factors, but one being the class materials. Praise the Lord!!

Our Sr. Sault Group called, "The S.O.U.P. Group", went to the Steele Baptist Church for the Associational SR Adult Fellowship on June 13th . We had a great time with the 7 that went to represent FBC.

We will have a Mission Commissioning Service this Sunday night at 6:00 pm in the chapel for Pam Peeler as she is preparing to gon on a mission trip to the Ukraine. A love offering will be taken to help with the securing of a dental truck to come to the mission site to minister to the dental needs of the people. Pam is also taking an extra suitcase of items that you have donated for the ministry and our youth will be paying for the extra cost.

We will be Observing the Lord’s Supper on July 7th during the morning worship service and we will be baptizing on the 14th of July.

FBC SUMMER KIDS CAMP is July 20th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. The age range is kids entering the 3rd grade up to going out of the 6th grade. Please sign-up ASAP and see Emma Fitzwater for information.

Women On Mission News:

WOM met Monday June 10 with 9 ladies present. We made "Prayer for Pam" magnets for her upcoming mission trip to the Ukraine on July 4th. Pam gave us about 10 things that we can specifically pray for while she’s gone - both for her and the entire mission team. I will make a list of these prayer requests and have these added to our church bulletin while the team is gone. Please be in prayer for each person going and that the people there will be receptive to hearing the Gospel. We will look forward to hearing about Pam’s trip when she returns on the 13th.

WOM have also started a mission project to help the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Each week when we do birthdays and anniversaries, you can bring up change (or dollars) to equal the amount of years for your birthday or anniversary. This is strictly voluntary. All proceeds will go to the children’s home and it’s a project worth participating in once per year on your birthday! You can also give in honor/memory of someone’s birthday if you’d like. We will send the money to the children’s home in December to help with their Christmas drive for the children.

Our next meeting will be Monday July 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. We’d like to have more ladies in attendance. We have prayer, fellowship, a short devotion and of course some type of snacks. We are doing mission work to help further the Kingdom and we’d love to have more ladies join us.

Youth Report:

Well it looks like June has come and gone already and her comes July. The Youth group has been very busy this month. We started the month out getting everyone who was going to camp ready to go. On Sunday June 9th, we left for Jonathan Creek Kentucky right after church. It was a good tip on a beautiful day. The only issues were the trailer I was pulling wanting to drive and the GPS getting confused about 20 miles from our destination. So a quick stop at McDonalds in Benton to stretch helped us eventually get to camp. We were met "as usual" with a group of young adults full of energy and excitement for the week to come. You could see our kid’s faces light up as we approached the camp and began to interact with the Crossing Camp Staff. It’s amazing to see all of the different church groups at this camp. They come from all over and some a lot farther than we had to drive. This must speak well of the camp. I know our kids love going and all usually get something from the experience. We were fortunate to learn from our boating experience last year with Captain Carson that we needed a more steady ship this year. Several of the youth met at Dylan’s house to construct what ended up being the first place boat in the boat race. Captain Dylan (Shaggy) Treece brought the trophy home for Team First Baptist. If you did not see the boat it looked very good and it sound like some of the other teams might not have been so happy with our preparation for this year’s event. (They thought it was bought from a store). LOL the competions was fierce but FBC youth prevailed. Bragging rights for a year. GOOD JOB FBC YOUTH! Also a big THANKS to Vaughn and Morgan Treece for hosting the boat building event and all you do!

On Sunday June 16th it was time for the Afterglow ceremony. This is the time that the one who attended church camp to tell about the experience and to just celebrate the fact that 15 teenagers and 3 counselors spent an entire week day and night pretty much worshiping and getting closer to GOD. The program was great and we had good attendance. The power point was great and thank to Sara Riggs for putting that together, everyone really enjoyed it. I want to thank my wife, Kristy Riggs, Jo Beth Moses and Josh Boyd for taking the time and taking their vacation time from work to go with our kids to camp. I know that Kristy spent many hours preparing and making sure all the paperwork and logistics for this trip were covered. I was glad to see that they all but Josh came back with HAIR left on their heads. We also want to thank Bro. Doug for going & picking the kids up & for all the support & guidance he gives us on a regular basis. Thanks to those who support us by donations & our fundraisers throughout the year. Without our loving church family & the support Kristy & I have been given as our youth in the church grow has been tremendous and we and the youth appreciate & love you all for your support. The Friday everyone came back from church camp it was time to start helping get ready t pass out fliers for VBS 2013. Bro. Doug, me, Kristy and Tatum took out in the can and Janice Bell, Melissa McClain and Sara Riggs took out on the ATV. We passed out around 150 fliers. The youth came back on Saturday and helped again with the registration and sign up carnival held at the church. Several of the youth came and helped do several things for VBS throughout the week as well. Some helped cook, teach and do just anything that needed done. I was very proud of the youth for taking the time out of their summer to spend it at church helping these children get closer to GOD. We are very blessed here at First Baptist. We need to continue to grow and learn to love one another more each day. We will continue to teach your children about God. God wants us to live for Him and put Him first in our lives. We love our church and youth. We will continue to do our best to make sure your children go to heaven and have our Lord and Savior in their hearts forever.

With lots of Love,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth Pastor

RA’s & GA’s

The Summer GA & RA group is underway with about 8 girls & a few boys in attendance. We are learning about missionaries and even watched a video of a missionary that is friends with Laura. That was so cool!! We learn Bible verses and then we go outside for a friendly game of baseball. Many of the neighborhood children come join in and we think that’s a good way to be a missionary right here at home. Thanks for all your support. If you know of any girls & boys that need somewhere to go on Wednesday night, let them know we are one fun group!!

Common Ground

FBC’’s Praise and Worship Team

For Father’s Day, we had the Dad’s in the congregation pick out their favorite praise and worship songs. It was a lot of fun! The Dad’s showed up and made some great picks! We also got to lead worship for the GLOW service this past Sunday night and what a great service that was. It was obvious that the youth were very fired up and ready to minister and share their experiences from camp. I have given the group members an assignment and can’t wait to see how it goes. Each person will pick out a song for us to learn and they will lead it! From what I’ve already seen, it should be a great month for praise and worship! The Pastor has also asked us to do some different things coming up late in the Summer and early Fall, which will be a great challenge. I know; however, that God will use us in some big ways! Also, I am still putting together the 2nd Annual Kevin McCoy Memorial Music Workshop which will be in the early Fall.

That’s all for now! I’ll see you all Sunday morning at 9:00 am for Praise and Worship in the Memorial Chapel!

Soli Deo Gloria,
Phil

Special Music

If you would like to be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of talent in our church and I hope you will share it with us!

FBC Adult Choir
Wednesday Nights at 8pm

The adult choir will be singing in the sanctuary on July 7th! You don’t want to miss it, as we are doing another great old time southern gospel song! We will also begin working on our Christmas musical for this year. It is from the Smoky Mountain Christmas series and is called, "The Gift". It features some great old favorites and even a few newer songs (well they were new about 16 years ago) which I’m sure will become favorites! It is also a play with a very moving story line that I know will touch your heart and make for a great Christmas event! If you would like to be a part of this, just show up on Wednesday nights! We will not be having a choir in the sanctuary for the rest of June because of VBS and the Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. group’s Independence Day musical. In July; though, things will be back to normal! It’s not too late to be a part of what God is doing in this amazing group of people! If you would like to be a part of the Choir, get with Bro. Doug or me....we will definitely be able to use you!

Just wanted to let Morgan Treece and Beth Prater know what a great job they’re doing in VBS with all the music! I visited them on Monday and they definitely were in "the zone"! Also, wanted to say thanks for all the hard work Morgan does with the children’s music program! I am really looking forward to the 4th of July musical. What a great was to kick-off the Summer!

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report:

I am writing this at the end of a very busy week: VBS 2013!!!! We had a great time learning new music-- signing the words and moving to the music. I know the kids had a great time and I feel very privileged that God allowed me to work with them yet another year. It is only Monday and I already miss their hugs! It is amazing how fast these kids can learn these songs in just twenty minutes a day for five days! Yes, my GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!

This week also proves to be very full for our Children’’s FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Team as we are in ""crunch time"" preparing for our first patriotic musical presentation Sunday morning, June 30, 2013, ""United We Stand."" We will work two hours on Wednesday night and possibly Saturday afternoon.
After the July 4th presentation, we will probably relax a little and work on a few songs and maybe play a little and enjoy the summer.

Continue to pray for our FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Team as they continue to serve God with their music.
Praising Him,
Morgan

5th and 6th Grade Missions:

We continue to talk about our wonderful missionaries every week. We also did a Bible trivia one night. You should be very proud of their knowledge of the Bible at their age. Although it was a close race, the girls won! Please continue to bring your children on Wednesday nights.

Kristy Riggs, 5th & 6th Grade Missions

To all that helped with Vacation Bible School,

We just want to tell you all Thank You so much for all your hard work and dedication to the Bible school program this year. We think everyone had a great time and for many of us we have learned as much as the children for us "FACED OUR FEARS AND TRUSTED GOD!" that got us thru the week!

We had great attendance, Great Bible stories told in true life form, thanks to some truly imaginative people and all their hard work, awesome out of this world food, we learned about missions and were taught the words and hand signs for all the fun uplifting music.

We hope that next year more of our church family will step up to the challenge and FACE THEIR FEARS AND TRUST GOD to help them become a part of sharing God’s word with the children, because you know that these children are the church’s future.

Thanks again for all the donation made by the church family, a special thanks to Chris and Leslie for all the time and hard work put into decorating the church. It looks great!! Also Emma, you will never know how many lives you touched this week, we could not have had a better Master of Ceremonies, the kids loved her and we thank her for a job well done!

When you think about it, this church family has been blessed with many talented people, so we need to use those talents to share God’s word any way we can.

Thanks for being such a great Family of God!

Janice & Melissa
