A Word From Your Pastor:
Greeting Church from beautiful downtown
It’s Independence Day month and it’s
the middle of our summer season. Susan and I hope
we all have a Great summer enjoying the outdoors
that the Lord has provided us by his Awesome
Changes have come upon us as a church this month
with our Youth and Music departments receiving new
teachers and leadership. This adjustment I pray is
smooth as butter and I expect everyone to be praying
about our future and the people the King will bring to
us as we move forward. Change is exciting if we will
grasp the idea that the LORD is IN CHARGE!!
July is upon us and that means CHILDREN’S CAMP
22 - 26th. Pray that we send several kids to camp
this year and that they grow in the LORD while there
and begin their journey with the Lord! Christian
Children is our goal! Kids on fire for the Lord and
growing HIS Kingdom in C’ville.
So, go put on the sun screen and don’t get burnt
enjoying His Creation this July and help build His
Church along the way. Happy July to you all!!

Women On Mission met June 10 with 14 members and 3
guests present. The theme was, “Discipleship Where You
Live”. Our director, Jo Ann Manz, welcomed the guest

speaker, RN, Soozie Hovis of Pyramid Hospice. She gave
an interesting and informative talk followed by a question
and answer session. Soozie also gave out door prizes to the
ladies who held certain numbers from a drawing earlier.
Jim Hovis, her spouse and hospice volunteer, was also in
attendance. Jean Ann James, longtime member of First
Baptist, came with Hope Bynum as a welcome guest.
The ladies were reminded of the lists for Southgate
Prayer Baskets and Blessing Box contents. Containers for
the Southgate items are underneath the bulletin board at the
side entry outside the fellowship doors and there is a
pantry for the Blessing Box items in that same entry hall
on the left as you come in the outside door under the
canopy. Any donations will be appreciated.
Our next get together will be July 8 at 6 pm in the
fellowship hall and the theme will be, “Fan The Flame Of
God’s Gift”. We will learn about missionaries to the
Hmong people in East Asia and as usual, refreshments will
be served.
“I keep asking that The God of Our Lord Jesus Christ,
The Glorious Father, May give you the Spirit of Wisdom
and Revelation, so that you may know Him better.” (Eph.

Recently we said our goodbyes to Phil as he embarks on his
new journey in life. We sent him off in style with our dinner and
a gift of our appreciation for the years of service he provided the
Now our work begins as we look for our new Music Leader.
Our Music Team will begin meeting and we will determine who
we are looking for in a leader. This position is a very important
one within our church as he or she will lead us in Worship every
Prayers, prayers and more prayers are needed as we transition
and find this new leader. The Lord knows our needs both in our
personal lives and the life of the church. Let’s follow Jesus and
we cannot fail! The Lord already knows this new person so let us
prepare for him or her as the Lord prepares them.
Enjoy your July and make sure to introduce yourself to the
interim music guy Sunday, he looks a lot like our pastor, it’s
pretty amazing the resemblance.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Hello Everyone! We had an amazing time at camp. The
weather, camp pastor, and all of the activities were phenomenal.
We really couldn’t have asked for a better week. I pray that the
students take what they learned during this time and apply it to
their lives. I always enjoy camp just as much as they do.
God has truly blessed my family and I during the time that
(along with my husband) have been head of this department of
our church. He has been with us in both wonderful and sorrowful
times and everything in between. He has taught me so many
lessons about how to grow as a leader, Godly sister, mother and
how to grow as an individual in the Lord. I believe that during
my time as youth leader, the Lord has done the same for the
students that have come in and out of our group and I am so
appreciative of the time that I’ve had with them. I love all my
students from now and the past very much and will cherish all
the memories I have in working with them and so many others in
our church body.
There’s so many that have supported me and our group, but I
need to mention a few by name. Pam Bullington has been there
with us from the beginning. From all the class times, fund
raisers, trips, etc. she has been our rock! Hope Bynum has also
been there for many trips and all fund raisers and has supported
the youth time and time again. Christy Mercer has been there for
me in so many ways that there’s no way I could mention them
all. I can’‘t thank these ladies enough. Also, Phil for all his
support over the years. Their support, along with so many others
in the church has meant the world to me. We definitely couldn’t
have done the many things that we have done without you guys.
Again, I will cherish my time here. This will always be my
“home”. Just know I love you guys very much! This isn’t
goodbye, but see you later.
                                                                                  Much Love,
                                                                                  Kristy Riggs
