Notes From Bro. Doug:

Peggy and I want to thank all of you for the support that came in many forms for our trip to help her mother and father at Joplin during this huge disaster. Peggy’’s parents have an apartment and might rebuild their house that was destroyed. It is hard to explain the devastation at Joplin. But we can see and are still seeing many great things that God is making out of the bad.

I want to thank the deacons for allowing me to leave and be with Peggy and her family. A huge thanks goes to Daniel and Dr. Doug for filling in during my absence.

Don’’t forget to come to the Father’’s Day Service on Sunday June 19th. Be ready to tell us why you love your father.

We want to thank Bro. Ira Singleton for preaching on his 85th birthday at FBC. When he called and requested to preach that day, Bro. Earl and I agreed it would be a great thing to do. Bro. Singleton gave 16 years of his ministry to FBC. As a boy I was a recipient of many of the great things that were done during his ministry. Be in prayer for him as he preaches this Sunday June 5th.

We also have another great event on June 5th. The Blackwood Brothers will be in concert this Sunday at 6:00pm during the evening service. Come and enjoy the great sounds of Southern Gospel.

We had a wonderful Stewardship Day(formerly Harvest Day) on Sunday May 22nd. The kitchen committee put on a wonderful meal. Our Stewardship Offering goal is $5000.00. Many decisions were made without the Stewardship committee members being involved and that has to do with my procrastination!!! I will do better next year and start planning earlier.

Thanks to the American Legion Post 88 and Commander Frank Morgan for leading us in the annual Memorial Service at FBC on the 29th. This is always a great service in the life of our church and we have many reasons to thank God for the memories of those who have served our country.

PRAYER……is needed for our Vacation Bible School coming up on June 20th-24th. Below you will find the schedule……please plan to pray, support and invite kids to our VBS this year.

Mission Moments:

Women on Mission held their May monthly meeting on the 23rd at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall. The weather brought attendance down some, but business was conducted as usual. We were disappointed that the Peru Missionaries were unable to come, but the fellowship was still great. A short program on the Appealing Aroma Of A Positive Witness was given by the WMU Director and projects for the coming months were discussed during the business session. Our "Cookies For Teachers" ministry project was a success with cookies being made and delivered to R-3, elementary and kindergarten, middle school and Caruthersville high. My thanks to all those who baked and helped put the various trays together for delivery. Congratulations to all our graduates this year. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with you as you begin this new journey in your life–whether it be college, military service or joining the work force. The time for Laura Boyd’s mission service is drawing near and we wish her much success. We will collect items for that trip when Laura advises of their needs. Each year, WOM donates $100.00 towards a child’s church camp fees. If you know someone in need, please let us know. We are still collecting underwear and socks as well as school supplies for next year’s school year. Our June meeting will be held on the 13th at 6:00 pm and the location will be given at a later date.

                                                                                                                                                     Prayerfully Yours,

                                                                                                                                                         Jo Ann Manz

Our Memorial Day/Stewardship offering total to date is: $3,180.00 this offering replaces our former Harvest Day offering and is to be divided equally with VBS, Youth, Roof Fund and Spiritual Development.

First Baptist Church,

Thanks to all the great members of FBC in Caruthersville, my childhood home church. Each of you listen to God then act on what He leads you to do - what a blessing to others. Thank you for the beautiful plant sent to me during Bill’s funeral- how special it made me feel.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Judy Kay Boyd

Dear Church Family,

I would like to thank you for your support throughout my years. I would also like to thank those who have selected me to receive the J.F. Pat & Mary Belle Patterson Scholarship, and would like to say I am grateful to have been chosen. Wherever I go, you all shall always remain in my thoughts and prayers.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Janell Boyd

Thank You:

Dear Church Family,

I want to thank you so much for the scholarship for my missionary project in South Asia. The $500.00 from the John S. White Family Scholarship will help me prepare to go and spread the Gospel of Jesus. Please be in prayer as I prepare to go. I will be telling you more about the possibility of linking up with First Baptist Humboldt and doing mission work with me, on June 12th during the morning service.

                                                                                                                                                         Thanks Again,

                                                                                                                                                           Laura Boyd

If you want to help make the casseroles, please see Susan. They will be made in the church kitchen and stored in the church freezer. If you know of someone who needs a casserole, please see Susan or the pastor, please do not take one without permission.

KCRV Radio Program

I want to thank Bro. Kenny Lee for doing the Baptist hour for the last 2 weeks, it was greatly appreciated!

Baptist Men’s Bible Chapter Reading: You may pick up a June Calendar for a daily Bible reading schedule that the Baptist Men are asking the church to join them in these daily chapter readings.

Angel Food Ministry: Orders are due in on Wednesday, June 15 and you will need to pick up your order on Saturday, June 25, 2001

Custodian: We have applications in so far for the job of custodian at FBC. The committee will be meeting very soon to start the process of hiring our next custodian. Be in prayer as we decide.

Communication: Many times the mis-understanding of a church is simply the ones involved not communicating. So please, make sure you use the opportunity to go through the right channels when you have an idea, a complaint, a suggestion, a task that needs to be taken care of, a concern, a new vision, a new outlook, a spiritual question or concern. If you don’t like talking face to face, use the suggestion box in the fellowship hall. But the first step should be the pastor face to face...my door is open, my ears are open. If you can’t find the pastor, then go to a deacon, they are here to serve you.

If you have an event, make sure you secure it with the church calendar in the office after talking with the pastor or appropriate staff member.

If something needs fixing, or you need supplies or teaching materials, see the pastor or the Sunday School Director.

Communicate to the persons involved!! It accomplishes nothing when people talk in the alley, or talk softly in the corner, or complain or campaign.

Thank you for those who remind or warn the pastor of things that are needed to be remembered... people in the hospital, people who are sick, people upset about something, people griping, people causing disunity.. disunity will kill a church...so KILL DISUNITY by not being a part of it!!! Great things are happening and great things are coming to FBC.

Youth News from Daniel’s Den:

First let me start off by apologizing for there not being any youth news in last month’s newsletter. I missed the deadline and didn’t make it in before they were printed. We have a lot to catch up on and cover this month.

Well, the Coca-Cola fund raiser was a HUGE success, we did around $10,500 in sales with around $3,500 in profits. God is awesome!! He has provided once again and Jonathan Creek is paid for and then some. We will be scheduling a Lock-In for the youth in around 6 weeks and as a reward for the 15 youth that sold for the fund raiser, there will be some special additional features to the lock-in. This is what the top sellers voted on as the reward.

This brings me to camp, we need to start getting campers information put into the website ASAP. Go to and look for the medical release form section, click this and follow the directions, this is a MANDATORY feature for your student to go to camp. (On a good note, there is no notary signature needed this year.) They will also need to put in their PO1 information too and I ask all students to make one of their top 3 picks a spiritual growth class. In the next few weeks we will be scheduling at least 2 meeting for camp, the first being a counselor meeting for myself and the counselors and the second will be a mandatory camp meeting for all campers and at least one of their parents or guardians. Any question or troubles, please, please let me know and we can get it taken care of. As of today, I am still shy 2 guy campers, so if your youth would like to go, I need to know immediately.

The Youth Committee is looking into the possibility of a "D Now" weekend as we speak, this will come up in early July if possible and should be an awesome experience! We will have ;more information in the coming weeks. We are also looking for some summer time things to do and appreciate any input, please feel free to call me or shoot me an e-mail. My e-mail address is drumminforjesus@aol.com

Please continue to be in prayer for the students, youth committee and April and I as we continue to try to please God in everything we do here at FBC. We all know that there are some issues every now & then, but these are what I like to call "growing pains" and they are good problems to have as we are getting the opportunity to minister to more and more students. God is moving in a mighty way! And as always, thank you for the chance for us to love on and minister to your youth.

                                                                                                      In HIS Hands,
