June, 2013

Notes From Bro. Doug: We had such a great Sunday, we had a good crowd even with a holiday. We ended our study on Stewardship Sunday night with a really good crowd present there too. The Memorial Harvest Day in May was a huge success. A big thanks goes to Phillip Barksdale for leading us in an Old Fashioned Sunday. We will have the Old Fashioned emphasis each year now!! The youth are so excited about camp this year. We have 15 youth & 3 adults going to the Crossings camp at Jonathan Creek, KY. They have been working on their competition boat already!!! This is always a great spiritual boost for our youth & sponsors each summer. The Mother’s day and baby dedication was a special day, we were honored to dedicate Jasper Swanson to the Lord. Let’s continue to pray for Sara & Jacob as they adjust to being graduates and entering the real world. You can still come this Saturday June 1st for the "Share Jesus Without Fear" class 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

It’s Great to Be Your Pastor!
Bro. Doug

Women On Mission News: No WMU News

Youth Report: The Youth Group has been very busy this month. Activities at church, dealing with the last month of school (finals), and then those who play sports or work have had a hard time catching a nap!!

I was very proud of the youth turnout for our revival. We had a average of 15 each night. The messages provided by our guest speakers were very good and the fellowship was even better. The pizza party went over very well with BB’s (Marilyn Boyd) famous pizza sauce, only two ovens, and 40 pizzas later we made it through!!

Our BBQ sale/yard sale we had on the 18th went very well. 5 very cute puppies found a good home. The BBQ sales were very good and the yard sale/bake sale was a great success. We still have some chopped meat by the pound for sale. Just see me or any of the youth and we will get you fixed up. THANK YOU to all who helped with every part of this fundraiser and all we do here at First Baptist.

On the 26th we had our monthly Birthday celebration at 6:00 p.m. in the youth room. There were several birthdays to celebrate. We always have a good time and also have a good Bible study while eating cake!!

We will be leaving with 18 counting 3 counselors on June 9th right after church. The camp is in Jonathan Creek, Kentucky. The campers will return back in Caruthersville on Friday afternoon around 3:00 p.m.

On the 22nd we had a mandatory meeting with the parents and youth that are going to church camp this year. If a parent did not come to the meeting the camper could not go. We had 100% participation. Sara Riggs made a great power point presentation to go along with the meeting. The main purpose of the meeting was to get everyone on the same page and to explain the rules of the camp. We also explained and made it clear what our expectations and rules of conduct would be from our kids and staff going to camp. We explained to each and every person that goes to any function representing First Baptist are considered Ambassadors for our church and each should act accordingly and represent our church in the highest manner. The youth are putting together a new plan for the boat race on the lake! Good Luck Captain Carson, it sounds like you are gonna need it!!!

On the 19th the youth were invited to the Prater’s house to help celebrate Beth’s sweet 16 Birthday. Several of the youth were in attendance and everyone had a very good time just hanging out talking and swimming. The term "kid in a candy store" fit right in on this day. You would have thought Willy Wonka had made a trip to Caruthersville, stopped by the Prater’s, decorated and then left a wonderful assortment of sucker tree’s and jars FULLLLLLL of candy everywhere. Oh yeah, Ronnie the kids like the chicken on the stick (kabobs) you fired up on the grill!! Great fellowship and we thank the Prater’s for the invite.

Our goal is to help each of these youth have a close relationship with God. We want our Ambassadors to go out into this mean old world and bring a spark or glimmer of the great things God has to offer to those who are lost and do not know His Son, Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is very important that parents, grandparents or anyone that has youth in their family to help get them to church. Our youth are the future of this church, community and the next leaders in society. Helping them to understand that having a close relationship with God is the most important thing in their lives is what we should be concentrating on. It’s the best gift we were all given!!

We Love Y’all,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth Pastor

Congratulations to High School Grads: Sara Riggs, Jacob Peeler, McKensey Hill (Angie Peeler’s niece), & R-3 8th Grade Graduate: Carson Constant

Puppet Ministry: (4th Sunday of each month 5:00 pm)

Chris & Kristy Riggs are in charge of this ministry, if you are interested in helping, contact Chris or Kristy or if you would like to donate, we have a special fund for this ministry.

RA’s & GA’s

The Summer GA & RA group is underway with about 8 girls & a few boys in attendance. We are learning about missionaries and even watched a video of a missionary that is friends with Laura. That was so cool!! We learn Bible verses and then we go outside for a friendly game of baseball. Many of the neighborhood children come join in and we think that’s a good way to be a missionary right here at home. Thanks for all your support. If you know of any girls that need somewhere to go on Wednesday night, let them know we are one fun group!!

Children’s Patriotic Musical Sunday June 30 10:30 am

Common Ground

FBC’’s Praise and Worship Team

It’s been a weird month for Common Ground because May has been such a busy month!! We have begun working on some new songs, well new to us and can’t wait to get you singing them along with us! On Mother’s Day, we did something a little different. We let the Moms who were there that morning for praise and worship pick the lineup for us. It was pretty interesting to hear the requests. They definitely have great taste!

I am already preparing for this year’s workshop. It will be a bit different than last year’s because we will be including the youth choir and sanctuary choir. We will also open this up to the community to help other church’s worship teams and choirs. Instead of being called "The Kevin McCoy Memorial Worship Team Workshop" it will now be know simply as, "The Kevin McCoy Memorial Music Workshop". I think Kev would approve. He loved all kinds of music! Look for this early this fall.

That’s all for now! I’ll see you all Sunday morning at 9:00 am for Praise and Worship in the Memorial Chapel!

Soli Deo Gloria,

Special Music

If you would like to be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of talent in our church and I hope you will share it with us!

FBC Adult Choir
Wednesday Nights at 8pm
The adult choir did an awesome job. They look and sound better than ever! We are doing a great mix up of old-timey and modern worship songs and hymn arrangements. Just look at our specials recently. We’ve sang CCM artist Twila Paris’ "How Beautiful" , the Hinson’s classic, "The Lighthouse", and even an old Oak Ridge Boys chart-topper, "Jesus Is Coming Soon". We are currently working on a great Gary McSpaden (formerly of the Gaither Trio) song called, "Mighty God" which I think will knock your socks off! It’s all about glorifying the Lord and addressing each other with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, as Paul tells us in the book of Ephesians that we should always do. We are having a blast in rehearsals and I believe we are really coming together as a family! It’s not too late to be a part of what God is doing in this amazing group of people! If you would like to be a part of the Choir, get with Bro. Doug or me....we will definitely be able to use you!

The Baptist Hour: Every Sunday 8:00 am KCRV 1370

2 Extreme

FBC Youth Choir

The youth choir is working hard! We are putting together special music, skits, human videos, and also are working on a special presentation for the Fall. We will be doing the 80's classic musical, "Friends Forever". We are going extreme retro for this one and hope you will be encouraged and challenged by the message, which I feel is still just as relevant today as it was when originally produced.

If you are not yet a part of 2 Extreme and would like to be, just be in the 2 Extreme Ward on the 3rd floor at 5:00 pm next Sunday, May 26th . You must be in the 7th grade through college and be willing to make a joyful noise!

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report:

Here we are on the brink of SUMMER!...and VBS!..and VACATIONS...and the FOURTH OF JULY! Which brings me to our next FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Team presentation. We are all very busy with getting out of school and getting ready to go here and there; but we are attempting our first patriotic musical presentation on June 30, 2013. This one is mostly singing and narration, but you will be blessed by the heartfelt traditional and untraditional music that the kids are learning. We have a few surprises planned, as well. And of course, as you all know, VBS will be right in the middle of now and then...I can’t wait! I love to work with the kids. They have so much energy! I hope I will!

Until then, everyone please be careful in your travels and have a wonderful summer!

Praising Him,

I would like to ask that you all continue to pray for me as I embark on this new chapter of my life.
