Notes From Bro. Doug:

We will NOT be having our pot-luck meals in June and July. We will still have our prayer service & business meeting.

We had a great month in May. We had a great crowd for Mother’s day and baby dedication. We had the privilege of dedicating 4 babies to the Lord.

We had a great time with our Memorial Harvest in May Day. The food and music was great. Our offering goal was $3,000.00 the total to date is $2,357.00.

I want to thank Dr. Doug Fitzwater and Pam Peeler for filling in for me as I was out May 25th with my son and his church. Josh was licensed to the Gospel Ministry. He preached a great sermon and I had the privilege of singing a duet with him.

Laura is in Bangladesh on a mission trip and Peggy is in Joplin helping her mom after knee surgery, so it’s very quiet at home these days.

V.B.S. is gonna be great again this year. Janice Bell is working hard getting all the details finalized. Pray that kids will be won to the Lord.

The youth will be leaving soon for church camp.

2 Extreme Arts

On April 27th, we presented the musical, "Room 77". We want to say thank you to all of you who came out that night! What a crowd!! Actually, I am supposed to be getting a pie to the face sometime because the number of youth who showed up. I dared them and they came. I’m pretty sure they forgot all about that though...well, they would have if I hadn’t just mentioned it! Actually, I’m proud to do it. We had a great crowd and managed to raise almost $400.00 for Annie Armstrong! I am so proud of all the hard work the group put into that production and I know it planted some seeds with its straight forward message!

We will now be working on a number of skits, songs and human videos to be presented throughout the summer as well as a big project that I am very excited about! We are doing a joint project with another church. We will be presenting "People Need the Lord" the musical, with the Kinfolks Ridge Baptist Church youth team. This is another Steven V. Taylor (the same guy who wrote 2 Extreme and Friends Forever) classic! It is a message about sharing your faith. We will present this musical this fall with 2 productions, one at Kinfolks Ridge o November 9th, and one here at our church on November 16th. So far, we have 19 teens signed up for this special event, but there is always room for more!

I want to say a special thanks to Bobby Coleman, the youth director at KRBC, and Gary Mann, the pastor at KRBC, as well as to Bro. Doug and Chris Riggs for allowing this special project to go forward! This is the largest project we’ve done so far and I can’t wait for you to see the end result. Once again, we will take up a special offering at each church and all proceeds will be going to each church’s Lottie Moon Goal for this year. I hope we can continue to do things like this in the future.

In Christ, Phil

Special Music:
If you would like to be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of talent in our church and I hope you will share it with us!

Common Ground

FBC’s Praise and Worship Team

Make sure to come to the Sunday morning praise and worship service, every Sunday morning at 9:00 am in the Memorial Chapel. We are playing a wide variety of music from contemporary praise and worship to southern gospel to some favorite old standards! We are currently looking for some new talent as well, so if you would like to be a part of our worship team, please get with me as soon as you can. Come praise the Lord with us! Phil

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter.

WOM continue to study women of the Bible from the book "A Lineage of Grace". The next meeting will be August 11th and Bathsheba will be discussed. Plans for various fund raisers will also be discussed at that meeting. The Tuesday morning devotionals at the Caruthersville Nursing Home continue with singing, devotionals and visiting with the residents; participate and you will receive a huge blessing!

FBC Sanctuary Choir Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm

We are currently working on a big musical for the end of the summer. It is called, "Bind Us Together", and it is a very powerful drama. If you would like to help with this production, we can definitely use you! Our choir has grown quite a bit, but we can always use more people who are willing to praise the lord with us in music and ministry.

Youth News:

Well summer’s finally here! School is out for some and the seniors have graduated. This is always a busy time of the year for the youth.

We want to congratulate Dylan Treece, Tim Abbott, Tyler Grissom and Hannah Whitley who graduated this year. We are very proud and wish them good luck with their future endeavors.

Of course most of you know we have been busy getting ready for one of our yearly fund raisers. We BBQ boston butts and have a yard sale and bake sale on the parking lot of the church on the Ward Avenue side each year. We appreciate all of the support and love our church congregation shows us in our efforts. Thanks to everyone who bought BBQ, baked anything for us or brought items for the yard sale. This year’s yard sale went very well. We made around $1,200.00 but that was before paying for everything but we will make a little and the kids were able to interact with the public and I was very proud of the youth and youth committee members who showed up to help. Bro. Doug of course brought his A game as usual when it comes to food. We just can’t thank everyone enough. The items that were left from the sale are being donated to the Day of Hope.

On Wednesday May 21st, we had a meeting after church for those going to church camp this year at Jonathan Creek, Kentucky. Everyone was in attendance and had a parent or guardian with them. Kristy went over the rules of camp and had a very good discussion with the group. Camp is June 8th through 13th. Campers will leave after church on the 8th. Chaperones are, Kristy Riggs, Jo Beth Williams, Hope Grooms Duncan and Phillip Barksdale.

We have been learning and memorizing Bible verses during class time along with our lesson books. The discussions are always interesting and we do talk about life issues and of course everyone’s opinions are not the same especially at the teen level. We are in the beginning stages of getting a Bible quiz team together and are hoping to challenge other youth groups in the area to a Bible challenge event sometime in the near future.

We love our youth and our church. We will continue to help your youth grow spiritually and make sure they know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

With God’s Love,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth pastor

5th & 6th Grade Missions:

As we continue to talk about our missionaries here in the states and overseas we are learning how we can do mission work right here in our own back yard. We are going to start growing flowers in pots and when they get big enough, we are going to plant them in our church yard. Just one way to help keep our "home" that God created for us beautiful. I would love to have your 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday nights.

Kristy Riggs

First Baptist Church Family,

We would like to thank First Baptist Church for the wedding shower given for us and a special thanks to the ladies who were hostesses for the shower, Vicky DeReign, Pam Peeler, Marilyn Boyd and Peggy Boyd.

Hey Guys,

I am so thankful that I have the privilege to be the church intern again this year! I have already met with Bro. Doug and we have GREAT ideas for this summers projects! This year I will be working in the nursery, helping with Mrs. Peggy’s class while she is with her mother, being a part of the Prayer Team, working with the Nursing Home Ministry, and working with VBS again! I will also be having office hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am until 12:00. We are planning on creating new t-shirts for the church as well as bumper stickers and a TWITTER account (the best way to get to anyone these days is social media). I am going to have another End of Year Bash again for the kids because it was such a hit last year. On top of that, there is talk of possibly introducing them to their local church families. This church means so much to me. I was raised and was taught about Jesus Christ through this church. I want others to experience what I have with all of you! I am thankful for this privilege that you all have given to me! I just ask that you pray for me and different activities that will be going on this summer! Also, if anyone wants to get involved, DO NOT HESITATE! I would love for everyone to be involved!

Thanks again for this amazing opportunity and if you need anything, do not hesitate to call!

Emma (:

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

The Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team does not have as much to report due to end of school and other church functions.

However, we did want to give a "shout out" to those that came out to help rake the leaves away from the fence at 8th and Walker. Laura Constant, Jonathon Vandergriff, Samantha Barksdale, and Austin Brooks brought their rakes and gloves and worked very hard. We are so proud of them for doing such a fantastic job!

Please continue to pray for the Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team and all the other children this summer. Pray for their safety and growth in the Lord as many will be going to church camps and VBS. God has great things in store for these kids and we are very excited to see those things accomplished through Him!

Praising Him, Morgan and Vaughn

There is a world bank at the pulpit area where you can put your donation.

You are Invited:

In lieu of a formal graduation, as Dylan has completed his senior year of high school at the same time completing his freshman year of college, we will be celebrating his accomplishments with a very informal drop in get-together and picnic on June 21, 2014, at 5:00 pm at our home 25 County Road 503, Caruthersville. We are planning on sitting around on hay bales listening to good music, playing games such as badminton, pool, air hockey, ping pong, and maybe some horse shoes, and of course, eating until we pop! At Dylan’s request, there will be NO long speeches!

We would like to extend this invitation to everyone at First Baptist Church. You all have been a huge influence in Dylan’s life, and this is our way of thanking you! Some have already asked if they can bring anything. There will be plenty of food such as grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and BBQ, and all the fixin’s! You may bring your special dish if you’d like; however, please don’t feel as if you need to bring anything–except a chair!

Please stop by and share this time with us. We are very proud of Dylan and the young man he has become. Please continue to pray for him as he continues to search out and accomplish what God has planned for him.

Morgan & Vaughn Treece

The kids on mission group has been collecting small toys for Laura to take to Bangladesh. We are also memorizing memory verses to help us live the way God wants us to live. Please be praying for our kids, they face so much in these crazy days that we live in.
