A Word From Your Pastor:

Summer time is here! Vacations are coming up, kids out of school, camps, fun in the sun is the goal for most of us. For the church VBS is the Big Event we look forward to every year. Kids coming to our church to learn more about Jesus. Hopefully new families are met and loved in hopes they will join our fellowship. I pray our focus this summer is "Love for our Community". To grow as a church, we must be the example of Jesus to all around us. Our attitudes and lifestyles put off a certain smell. Do we "STINK" or are we the "Sweet Aroma" of Christ Jesus. If we are not attractive in others eyes we will just stay the same old church when Jesus’ Word calls us out to GROWTH. So, we do smell but what do we smell like? Do you stink or are you a sweet-smelling aroma that others want to be a part of? We must ask ourselves this question as we go about our daily business.

Matthew Chapter 28:

16: Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17: when they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18: then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20: and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,"

Lesson for this Month is, "DON’T STINK IT UP".

In Christ,

Bro. Jimmy

FBC Worship Choir

We are still trying to get chairs for the choir loft. These chairs are sturdy and attractive, while at the same time are light weight and stackable. We are asking people to help us with this by sponsoring one or more chairs. The cost is $37.95 per chair, and we are hoping to get 20 of them, so that as the choir continues to grow, we can have enough chairs without having to order more or bring in folding chairs. This price is only good until the end of June, then the costs will go back up to $52.00 per chair, so we hope to reach our goal by this month to get the sale price. If you would like to sponsor a chair, just put your check in the offering plate and write, "For Choir Chairs" in the memo section. You can also give the funds to the church office. You can get with me for more information. Also, I’ve already got some great news about Christmas! This year, we will be doing a joint production with the choir from North 10th St Baptist Church in Blytheville. This means there will be two productions, one in Blytheville and one at our church. I’m really looking forward to working with Jim Clark, the minister of music at North 10th St. , and ministering with both choirs.

If you would like to be a part of this musical in anyway - drama, singing, or help with the sets, just let me know. We will be doing the musical, "The Christmas Shoes", based on the song and movie of the same name. We’ll start working on the music this month. I really hope that you will be a part of this special production!

Extreme Arts :

May was a really big month for Extreme Arts, and I want to thank everyone who helped in any way at all to bring everything together. I was so happy for the group to finally do something they had helped to write themselves. I hope our production of, "Alive in Us", blessed and ministered to you as you watched as much as it did to us as we put it together. Extreme Arts is now on Summer Break until August.

This is always such a bittersweet time for me. I’m excited to see the new students moving up to this group and we are all so ready for a break., but I’m also sad to see the graduates move on to leave the group. It was such an honor to have Adrienne Duncan, Logan Ford, and Erin Barksdale in our group for as long as they were able to be in it. I’ll miss you all so much, though I know you are all moving on to awesome things. Just keep Philippians 1:6 in your heart and never stop pursuing your dreams. I love ya’ll and can’t wait to see where God leads you from here. As for the rest of you, enjoy your summer and I’ll see you in August!

Phil

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter and put it on the tv announcements.

Women On Mission:

WOM met on May 8th with several ladies in attendance. The "Louie Scarf Project" is continuing at a great speed to get many done for the Christmas parade.

Banners have been donated by Ricky and Janice Bell, in memory of little Ricky Bell and by Ms. Pat Ferrell, in memory of Buck Ferrell. These will grace the sides of the baptistery beginning the Sunday after Father’s Day. If you are interested in donating the cost of a banner for an occasion, please get with me or Christy and we will be more than glad to take care of it for you.

There will be no WOM in the months of July and August. Our next meeting will be June12th. As of this note, I will be taking a mission trip from October 19 -26 to Brazil, down the Amazon River to 5 different villages. This is a medical trip, much like the last one I took, but with folks from Illinois. I will be with the IMB missionaries that served in Brazil and then in Africa. Please make this a matter of prayer, these trips are not easy, so much prayer is appreciated. If you would like to donate to this, indicate on your donation that it is for the Amazon Mission trip. I am going to schedule a dinner in the next few months also to help with expenses. Blessings to all.

Youth News:

With missing a few church services due to special occasions and the weather not cooperating, we have yet to get out and distribute our church flyers and bracelets. But we will be going out very soon. The bracelets we are passing out are from The Kindness Revolution. This is an awesome nationwide movement that promotes kindness. We thank Melissa McClain for getting those for us.

On May 18th, we took a group to go serve at R.A.I.N. (Reaching all in need), in Portageville. This is an awesome non-profit ministry that gives food to needy people once a month. It was an honor to help that night and we’ll definitely be doing it again. If anyone would like to go, let me know.

Camp is upon us and I’m busy getting everyone registered. I still have a couple of spots open and have until June 2nd to add anyone. If you know of someone that camp will impact, tell them to get with me as soon as possible. Even though we are doing the Camp-40 this year, I know it will still be a blessing as I’m very excited about the theme. The theme is "Outsiders". We experience this as Christians. We are outsiders because we find meaning and purpose in knowing and serving God. We are outsiders because we belong to the kingdom of Heaven. I know this will be something that will truly touch each and everyone of us.

Please continue to pray for our group as we go forward with all of our activities.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Help Needed:

If you are interested in learning to run sound and multi-media for our evening services, please let me know. I will be offering another training course soon. This is a much needed ministry at our church. Please pray about joining the audio-visual team this year.

VBS News:

There will be a VBS meeting June 4 after the morning services, with lunch provided. Please have your supply list for your crafts for the 1st, 3rd, and 5th night of VBS. Also, have the yellow sticky notes ready to put out in the kitchen so that it will give people an early chance to start getting items they want to contribute. The sooner we nail down what we need and get it, the smoother things will go, our last minutes will be spent decorating within a 3 day period. We must stay ahead of schedule to keep stress down and feeling overwhelmed. I trust each teacher is familiar with their lessons and is spending time praying for the children you will have in your class. Thank you for keeping VBS in your prayers and especially for the children that will enter the doors of FBC to hear the Good News that Jesus Saves and loves each of us.

Thank you,

VBS team members,

Colossians 1: 15 - 16

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

We are doing a study of the 5 Books of Moses, the Pentateuch, beginning with Genesis. We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall. If you like a topical approach to Bible study with a more in-depth and thought provoking format, then this is the Bible study group for you. There’s just something about God’s people meeting together and studying the Word of God that brings a closeness to God and each other. Come and join us this Tuesday!
