Notes From Bro. Doug:

The Lord is blessing at FBC. The vision and purpose He has given us is being implemented in so many ways and through the entire age range of our people. It is reassuring to see Him working in so many lives at FBC. We give Him all the Praise and Glory!!!

We have a new defibrillator. After Feb. 28th we will have over 18 people in the church that are trained in CPR and each will know how to administer the defibrillator. The device will be place at a strategic area of the church an will have with it an extensive First Aid section complete with items needed for many situations that could arise.

We have about 20 people signed-up and attending the newest disciple class called, "Experiencing God" taught by Dr. Doug Fitzwater. It is a real blessing to hear how God is moving in these attendee’s lives.

Three of us went to the Tallapoosa Men’s Conference. It was fantastic as usual. It is so amazing that a small church like Tally can be used so mightily by God and it just shows you what God can do with a willing people and a people that pray.

The deacons/wives and widows had their annual outing at Lakeview at Reelfoot Lake. We have 24 present and it was a great time of fellowship. Bro. Earl said that it was a record attendance.

The Spring Revival is gearing up to be a real blessing. Bro. Gary Brown from Jonesboro, AR. is coming as our speaker, but you will not meet him each night, you will meet a different biblical character each night bringing a sermon centered on their life and biblical experience. Bro. Gary dresses up and preaches as the biblical character. I think our entire church body will receive a blessing from this creative way of preaching. Bro. Jim Clark is coming to lead our singing and was instrumental in us getting Bro. Gary. Bro. Jim will be having a revival choir, his praise team will be coming from Blytheville one night and of course he will sing. Plan now to attend each service and help spread the word and bring a friend.

Bro. Doug

The group of dedicated women are busy collecting items for Easter Baskets. Baskets, candies, coloring books, crayons, religious books and small stuffed animals are among some of the items needed. If you would like to donate for this mission, boxes are in the dining room. A total of $9,286.18 was raised for the Lottie Moon Goal of $10,000.00. A lot of planning, hard work and fund raisers all year made this possible. A big Thank You to everyone that contributed their time, effort, money and in any way helped make this possible. The women are continuing their study of the book "A Lineage of Grace"by Francine Rivers.. This is a very interesting book about the women of the Bible, if you are unable to attend WOM you might consider getting the book as it is a very good read. We meet in the dining room of the church and hopefully the weather will be better in March. Please join us the second Monday of each month; it is a good time of fellowship, studying the word of God and planning missions throughout the year.

FBC Talent Celebration:

See Bro. Phillip if you would be willing to express your musical talents for the glory of the Lord on Sunday night March 16th at 6:00

2 Extreme Arts

Here’s the scoop on 2 Extreme. We are going to remain mostly a youth choir. However, we will still have a focus on other areas of the arts as well but will focus on these things as a group. We didn’t have a whole lot try out this year and I figured some of it was due to the confusion I created with the swap to Extreme arts. Also, of the ones who did try out, there were so many who were interested in more than one area and had a hard time choosing only one. So, due to all that, we will just keep it as it has been up to this point. The sought after changes did help in some other areas like recruiting helpers. We now have some people who will help out with some of our other areas. Vicky DeReign will help with drama, Peggy Boyd will help with voice training for soloists, Chris & Kristy Riggs will help with set design and Dylan Treece will help with sound and lights.

Our first musical will be on April 27th. It’s called Room 77 and features the songs of Wayne Watson. It’s amazing to me that all the youth in the choir have decided to audition for a part this year! I have also made a deal with the youth choir, if we can raise our number to 20 people by the time we present our musical on April 27th, I will treat them to a skating party at Skateland in Blytheville, AR. They agreed to the challenge, so we will see what happens. They wanted me to put my hair on the line again and I said no! I am so excited about what God is going to do in our little group.

I love ya’ll!

Special Music: If you would like to be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of talent in our church and I hope you will share it with us!

Common Ground

FBC’s Praise and Worship Team

We have started our 9:00 am praise and worship service again as of February 2nd. What a great way to kick off Sunday morning! Our rehearsals are going well as we are learning some new music, well new to us and are coming together again as a family! Tatum Riggs has stepped up from powerpoints to vocalist and Bro. Doug is no longer singing with us due to his already heavy schedule. Other than that we are mostly the same group as last year. This features Chris Riggs on drums, Dylan Treece on lead guitar, Kelsey Vandergriff on bass, me on keyboards and lead vocals and along with Tatum, Connor and Erin Barksdale on vocals. Be prepared to see a lot more of us this year than you did last year and make sure to come to the Sunday morning praise and worship service every Sunday morning at 9:00 am in the chapel.

Music Notes:

For those of you on my mailing list, the next edition of Music Notes is under way and will be out next month! If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please let me know. Music Notes is all the news that pertains to our music ministry program here at FBC. It goes into a little more detail than I can post in our church newsletter. It included rehearsal times, calendars, special events, puzzles, devotions, and so much more! It is released only 4 times per year, once per season, so if you would like to receive the Spring newsletter please let me know before I send them out during the first week of March.

Have a Great Day!,

FBC Sanctuary Choir
Sunday nights @ 6:00 pm

The FBC sanctuary choir is going strong!! We have several new selections we are working on as well as preparing for our upcoming Easter Cantata which will be on April 13th at 6:00 pm, Palm Sunday! This year we are doing a montage of songs arranged by people like Rusell Mauldin and Cliff Duren set to a script that I wrote called, "The Miracle of Easter". If you are not already a part of this group and would like to be, just talk to me! I have plenty of room right now for more!!

Youth News:

We made pizzas this month as part of our yearly fund raising. We made around 350 the first Saturday and with more request coming in we met and made about 65 more. I want to thank everyone for their support of this fund raiser. We enjoy making the pizzas and hearing the compliments from you about how good they are, we try pretty hard! LOL. A BIG THANKS to Robert at the Hayti Pizza Hut, Robert helps us with pizza boxes and any supplies we may need during our pizza making efforts.

We have paid for 16 spots at Jonathan Creek Church Camp for this 2014 year. The 16 spots includes 3 adult chaperons. Any of the youth who qualify will have to pay half of the cost which is $175.00 due as soon as possible. This will guarantee a spot. Camp this year is June 8th - June 13th, coming home on the 13th around 3:00 pm if all goes well.

On February 23rd we had our monthly birthday celebration. We had pizza, cupcakes and lots of goodies. We played a game during the celebration which pitted the girls against the boys. The name of the game was who can name the books in the Bible and how many of each are there. We gave them a letter from the alphabet and they had to use that to choose the name of a book which started with their letter. The boys won this hands down, however a new challenge was issued by the girls and we will find out if the boys just got lucky or if the girls were having an off day!! LOL. I will report the outcome of the next competition!!!

We are looking forward to Winter Jam in Memphis on March 2nd at the FedEx Forum. We went last year and it was wonderful. We expect no less this year. We will leave after church. Those who qualify to go already know. We will be back around midnight, hopefully!!

The youth will be in charge of the March 16th Sunday morning services. Please plan on attending that day, I believe you will be amazed at the talent and blessing you will see and receive during this service. We will try very hard and that is all anyone can ask.

Please continue to pray for the youth of our church and the leaders. We continue to teach your child about the Bible, God’s Word. We also deal with real life happenings that are going on in and around your youth’s lives. The devil is luring and is just waiting for all of us to take our eyes off of God so he can slip in and cause problems.

Thank all of ya’ll for loving us like you do, the support you give us on a regular basis. We love our youth and our church family with all our heart. 2014 is going to be a GREAT year!!

With God’s Love,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth pastor

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

This month has been very productive with the Children’’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team. We have begun practicing for our Easter program, "The Colors of Easter." We always enjoy and thank God for the opportunity of sharing the Gospel with our family and friends.

We got to have a little break on February 16 at our Valentine’s party, "Sprinkled with Love." A BIG "Thank You" to the parents who helped with the refreshments. We also want to thank Chris Riggs for cooking our pizzas for us. After eating, we played several games. First, we played a game naming the Disney couples; then, we played a game naming Bible couples. I have to say they did well on both, but the Disney couples were more well known by the younger ones. We all had a fun time, as usual.

We will continue to practice for the Easter program; and if your child has not yet joined the Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team for Easter practice, we would love to have him/her. Please be in prayer for our group and the outreach these children do in performing for family and friends.

Please continue to pray for all of our little ones as they continue to grow in the Lord and seek His way.

Praising Him,

Morgan and Vaughn

Children’s Missions (Formerly GA’s & RA’s)

The Children on Mission meet on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm. We are learning about missions that are going on in the United States. We are collecting Easter items for the foster children in this county. We have at least 80 foster children and need lots of items for their baskets, so please give generously.

First Baptist Church,

I would like to thank everyone for the prayers, phone calls, visits and food during my recent hospital stay for a collapsed lung (2). Thanks to Bro. Doug for his visits, I couldn’t have made it without all the prayers.

Billy McCullough

First Baptist Church,

Thank you for all the prayers for our sister-in-law, Eve Godsy and for all of our family.
