March, 2016

Notes From Bro. Doug:

Many of you are continuing to read the bible through in one year. If you are behind, there is always time to catch up. Thank you to all who have been giving faithfully to the church and missions. Our budget and spending is in good condition. If there is anything worth supporting in this world certainly the most important is the church and mission endeavors. Also I thank you to the many that make the church clean, beautiful, fixed and running smoothly. And I thank the talented ones that use their gifts to exalt Jesus. Again thanks for helping to build God’s kingdom.

We experienced a great February. For 6 weeks our fellowship hall was used for birthday parties and showers. This is so great because it gets non-church members in our facilities. Also Dr. Doug Fitzwater and members do the free Dr clinic every month and that brings potential souls to Jesus through meeting their needs.

Family and friends pulled together a special presentation given to Mrs. Rae Michie for her 90th birthday. The presentation was given by our State Representative Andrew McDaniel. She also had a fantastic birthday party at church given by her family.

The children’s mission groups are going strong and they are studying about NAMB missions and other missionaries. The children’s choir is working on a new musical called, "Camp Wallaballa." the whole children’s dept. had a belated Valentine Party on Wednesday night Feb. 17th due to the church being closed on Feb. 14th with bad weather.

We will be observing the Week of Prayer for the North American Mission Board and Missionaries on March 6 -13th. We will have our Mission Night on Sunday night March 6th and take up the Annie Armstrong Easter offering on March 13th. Our goal this year is $3,000.

We will be supporting the Women’s conference at Temple BC on March 12th. Laura Boyd, our daughter, will be the lead speaker this year. Friends and family will also be throwing a wedding shower for Laura on March 13th from 2-4 pm. She will be married to Mark Myers on May 7th in

Texas and you are certainly invited.

Bro. Doug

Women On Mission:

The ladies of WOM met on February 8th, with several in attendance. Plans were finalized for the Soup and Sandwich luncheon to be held April 17th, immediately after morning services. Please make plans to join us. All proceeds go to the fund for the Nativity set to go on the outside of the church. Our next WOM meeting will be on March 7th, at 6:30 pm. We will be learning to make rag dolls for our Samaritan Purse boxes and Mission trip gifts. There is no sewing required to make rag dolls and they are very simple to put together. This Sunday, February 28th, I will have all the Easter Baskets and supplies we have in storage put out in the fellowship hall for you to pick from for your Easter baskets for the foster children. I will also have the list of ages and gender from the Division of Family Services. We have done this project for several years and it is very much appreciated by the Family Services and the children that receive a basket. Put March 12th on your calendar to go to Temple Baptist Women’s Retreat. Our very own Laura Boyd will be the guest speaker and then Sunday the 13th will be a Bridal Shower for Laura in the fellowship hall from 2 - 4 pm. I urge all the ladies of all ages to come and join us in WOM. We would very much enjoy having you.

Faith that remains unchallenged ordinarily remains unchanged.

Pam, & Christy

FBC Worship Choir

Can you believe it’s March? Easter is coming up in just a few weeks and the choir has been very busy working on our Easter Cantata. The name of the cantata is "Believe", and we will present this on Palm Sunday, March 20th at 6:00 pm. It’s a little different than the usual musicals and cantatas we see every Easter, but the message is very powerful! It will incorporate songs from such artists as the Newsboys, Matt Maher and Tamela Mann. We hope that you will come and bring someone with you for this life-changing production. The choir will also be a part of our Easter Sunday festivities on March 27th. Rehearsal dates for the choir will be every Wednesday night after church, plus March 18th at 7:00 pm, and March 19th at 6:00 pm. It’s real easy to join the choir; just show up Wednesday night after church! Remember: God gave you talent for a use for His glory!

Singing His Praises,

Extreme Arts & FBC Worship Choir:

For our Spring production this year, we will be doing a review of some of the musicals, skits, human videos, etc that we have done over the last 4 years. This will include selections from Live It to the Max, Friends Forever, Room 77, 2 Extreme the Musical, and more. We will also be doing some new stuff for this special night. We will present this production called, "Extreme Review" (Yes, I thought that up all by myself!), on April 17th at 6:00 pm. Please come and be a part of this ministry. We meet every Sunday evening at 5:00 pm in the choir room. Special rehearsals for this presentation will be April 15th at 7:00 pm, and April 16th at 6:00 pm. On the 16th, I will provide supper. We will also be having a lock-in/work night on April 1st from 8:00 pm - April 2nd at 6:00 am. If you could volunteer to help chaperone, we really need you. You can work in shifts if you can’t stay the whole night.

Youth News:

Hello Everyone! We have finished our study on the book of James, with our toes still intact. LOL. We were in church on the 21st for creative Sunday and Bro. Doug was talking about how God disciplines us. So, I really wanted to continue somewhat on that subject, so we will start a

3 week study on "Spiritual Disciplines". Things that we will be discussing - 1. The discipline of "slowing" the pace of the life in order to be close to God and be used by Him. 2. The discipline of scripture memorization. 3. The discipline of their prayer life.

On February 20th, we took 12 to Paragould to see the movie "Risen". The kids really enjoyed it as did Pam and I. The movie’s subject was of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It was a unique take on the greatest story ever told because it was told from the stand point of a non-believer. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is well worth it. Also, as we watched commercials for upcoming movies, there are 3 Christian movies coming out in the next 2 months. As this is a wonderful problem to have, I don’t know if we will make it to all. But we will definitely go to at least one of these. We thank Paige Gillock for getting us the movie tickets.

We have started the cross rentals. We will continue with this until March 6th. I will need the kids to stay after church on the 6th to go put the crosses in the yards. We will order pizza before hand and then head out. Then we will pick them up on the 19th and put them in the church yard for the week heading into Easter. Thank you to everyone that supports this ministry.

The reason we are putting crosses out on Sunday is because we are going to Winter Jam on Saturday, March 5th. I hope by now, the ones that can go have signed up, because I will be ordering tickets soon. They are responsible for paying $15.00. We will leave the church at noon and stop to get lunch.

We are gearing up for camp. I have had some give me their deposits. So, if you have forgotten, no biggie. But, please get those in asap. The 2nd half of the deposit is due May 1st.

We will plan a trip to go bowling soon. Then as I reported last month, we will be doing the 30 Hour Famine April 29th and 30th. I know I am talking about this early, but they will be getting a permission form soon. They can not do the famine without the permission form. I am looking forward to this and I will have a lot more info about what all we will be doing in the next newsletter.

As you can see, a lot is going on and coming up, so please encourage your youth to be faithful in their attendance. As always, I thank you for allowing me to walk with and beside your kids. They are such a blessing to me!

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Children’s Mission Group:

The Children’s mission group had a wonderful Valentine’s day party. We want to give a special thank you to Mrs. Nash for the cupcakes and chocolate rice crispy treats. The kids (and a few youth) loved all of it! Everyone had a great time and even got to take home some special treats. Kaley won the grand prize skittle jar by guessing how many were in the jar. The mission class meets every Wednesday night at 7:00. We love having all the kids there. Keep praying for us!

Thank you,

Paige Gillock
