Notes From Bro. Doug:

April has been a great month at FBC. The special services we had during the month were wonderful. The National Day of Remembrance was a huge success; the revival was so well received and attended and the Lord used Bro. Joe Wright in a great way and the Creative Sunday was a fresh new way of worshiping the Lord. It is encouraging to get so many positive responses from many of you who really liked the Creative Sunday worship style.

I want to thank the kitchen committee and the many who helped with the revival meals. Both meals were packed and great food was consumed. I know it helped the attendance for the revival.

We are going to renovate one of the classrooms in the children’s building and renovate and restock the nursery. There are needs posted by the water fountain going into the sanctuary. We need those items in by the first work day on June 6th. Come June 6th at 9:00 am to help start the renovations.

We need volunteers to fill in for Brenda and answer phones from 9:00 - noon on May 7th, 11th, 14th, 21st if you would be willing to serve, sign up in the fellowship hall.

Peggy and I are excited to invite you to a shower for Jenna Sasso and Josh Boyd on May 30th from 2-4 pm in the fellowship hall. We are so proud of Josh and his direction in life as a youth pastor and eventually as a pastor. We are doubly blessed to have Jenna joining our family. She is a wonderful child of God with a heart for ministry and missions and will make a wonderful minister’s wife. Please pray for them and us as we prepare for their wedding at Union Ave. BC in Memphis, TN on June 20th at 1:00 pm.

Make plans to join in as FBC hosts the CHS Baccalaureate service at 6:00 pm on Wednesday night May 13th. This will take the place of all other classes and services except children’s missions. They will meet at 6:00 pm instead of 7:00 in their regular room.

Be praying for our youth and children as they get ready to go to camp this summer. Be praying as we prepare for Vacation Bible School July 13th - 17th.

Summer break until August 16th!

So after our wrap party we will be on break until August 16th. When we reconvene, we will begin working on a Christmas project with the Adult Choir. This project will also include the children’s choir. It is called, "The Christmas Shoes:, and I am very excited about this project! Also in September we will have our weekend retreat to Reelfoot. I know you’re gonna dig that!! The reason for the break is because I know how hard you have all worked this school year and I know how busy your summers can be. This will give you one less thing to worry about; however, I truly hope you will all return (and bring people with you) in the fall. Remember, God gave you talent for a reason, and that is to use it for His glory!

Thanks so much for making this past school year such a fun and inspiring time for me. Have a great summer and I can’t wait to work with al of you again!!

See you Sunday,

FBC Sanctuary Choir
Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm

We have begun working on our summer project, "Bind Us Together". We have lots of room if you would like to be a part of this amazing project. We need actors, singers, set constructors, costumers, hair and make-up artists, prop designers, and people to just stand around and tell us we’re doing a good job! LOL! Really, though, this is going to be a big project and you can help! Some of you may have been thinking of getting involved in one of our productions...well, this is the one!! Our musical will be presented in the early fall and I’m so excited about the impact I believe this presentation will have on you and your family. Today, our families are under attact more than ever. Divorce is too easy and convenient but the pain and confusion it can bring to our children is never easy! As someone who has been there, I know the pain that comes from divorce. The reason for so many divorces today is because we have not made the Lord the foundation of our marriage. The scripture tells us that unless the Lord builds the house, the laborers labor in vain. The only thing that can save our families is to commit ourselves to the Lord as a family. Even though I am no longer married, I praise God that He got a hold of me in time to save my relationship with my children. However, it is always a struggle. "Bind Us Together" addresses some very poignant issues for the family. It focuses on a family from the time of their marriage into their autumn years together. It addresses issues such as divorce, raising children, striving to keep the family together in the midst of so many temptations, what happens when the children are grown and more. This is a powerful production that I have seen performed more than once and God has used it to bring families back to Him. I have seen whole families come to the altar together to recommit themselves to God and to each other. With your help, I know that we can see God move again in our little community. If you never do another production with our choir, come and be a part of this one. There is a part for everyone in your family. What an awesome experience to minister with your family to help another family. W e meet Sunday nights at 7:00 pm.

Youth News:

Well the crosses are picked up and stored away until next year and time is just flying by. We can’t thank you enough for the support on the cross ministry. I have had so many comments on the crosses in a very positive way. If there was a problem or someone was supposed to get a cross and didn’t, please get with me and we will make it right.

On May 10th during the morning worship service we will honor our graduating seniors this year. Congratulations to Connor Barksdale, Beth Prater and Parr Abbott who will be our three graduating. Congratulations to Tatum Riggs on graduating from the 8th grade at R - 3. We want to wish them all the best in their future. We are very happy and excited for them all. So invite family members to come to church and it is also Mother’s Day, so that is another reason to get up, come to church and bring someone with you. Graduates and Mothers will be honored on this day.

Church camp is getting close and it is time to finalize the paperwork and get everything in order. We will be having a church camp MANDATORY meeting on May 20th right after Wednesday night service. Kristy will be in charge of the meeting and will provide the information needed by the parents and campers. If you need a sponsor, please let me know yesterday, if not the $150.00 is due. We are looking for a male counselor to go with the boys to camp. Please get with me if you can go. Must be 21.

With a very good revival and other activities happening within the walls of First Baptist, we have mainly been working through our Bible study booklets and having discussions during class. Our numbers have been good but can be a lot better. I encourage you parents, grandparents and anyone who has youth age children to get your child to church especially if they can’t drive. Sunday School is so important and it creates a bond with the kids that are coming and sitting with family during big church doesn’t have. I know it’s hard to get them up or get yourselves up that early on a Sunday morning but it’s worth it. If transportation is an issue get with me and we will pick them up, maybe get enough to start running the van ministry again. We will pray about this issue.

We have fun and try to do things to glorify God and teach your children God’s Word. We have our Wednesday night service at 7:00 and Sunday night service at 6:00 which gives two more opportunities to attend youth and church.

Since food usually gets folks to church, the youth will be sponsoring the Sunday School Breakfast on Sunday May 3rd. So a short Sunday School lesson and then a GREAT breakfast followed by Bro. Doug in big church. See you there!

We love our church and our youth. It is very important that each youth has God in their lives, especially through the teenage years. We hope our efforts and with God’s will your child will have a long, loving personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In Christ’s Love
