A Word From Your Pastor:
Happy, happy May to you all! April showers bring
May flowers. If this is true, we will have record flower
numbers no doubt about that. Cardinals are in first
place, so you fans should be in a good mood at least
until June.
The month of May brings us “Mother’s Day”. A
glorious time to celebrate Mom for all she does for us
throughout the years. Many of us have only memories
about Mom and the great inspiration she was to us.
Godly mothers are a gift from heaven to us and I hope
we can show her how much she means to us this
Mother’s Day.
My mom showed me Jesus from birth. Introducing
me to Jesus was the most important job my mom has
even done. Understanding who HE is and what HE did
for me from birth caused me to realize that life is all
about HIM and not me. A godly mother is priceless for
her children and brings them up with an education of
Jesus and HIS ways.
I realize some of us didn’t have this priceless gift
growing up. We found Jesus later in life and wasn’t
taught the things of the Lord. I’m sorry if you had this
upbringing. I wish all had my experience but the
reality is most don’t. By the way, this has nothing to
do with church attendance or the church for that
matter. This has to do with a Godly Mother 24/7 and
watching her as she lived her life as an example for
Praise the Lord for my Mother! Have a great month
of May church.

                                        In Christ,

                                                           Pastor, Jimmy

Easter choir:
Thank you to everyone who helped with the Easter
Choir this year. I was so proud of you and hope that
the songs were a blessing to you as well as the
congregation. Hoping we can gain enough interest to
put together a choir for Christmas. If you would like to
be a part of that, please let me know.

                                             Singing His Praises,

If you would like to be put on the calendar for special
music, please see Bro. Phil.
Share your talents with the church for the glory of God!

Women on Mission met April 8 for their Easter
Eggstravanza. 13 members and 5 guests were present.
Our speaker for the evening was Kim Hall, activities
director of Southgate Living Center. Kim gave a very
informative talk about all the activities that are offered
to the residents. They even have a cooking class and
bake cookies and cakes. A lively question and answer
session followed. Our thanks to Kim for agreeing to
speak with us. A spirited egg hunt followed with
Marilyn Strawn finding the prize egg. A prize was also
awarded to Susan Lemonds for finding the most eggs.
Prayers were given for our missionaries who were
spotlighted for this month, as well as missionaries
having birthdays on April 8. Thanks to Shelby Walker,
Marilyn Strawn and Janice Bell for supplying the
refreshments and to the kitchen crew for cleanup
afterward. The minutes and financial report were read
and approved and it was reported that, Thanks to Jim
Young, a member of the Brotherhood, and our pastor,
the Blessing Box is now completed and in place in the

churchyard. 190 Easter baskets for foster children
were completed and picked up by the children’s
services. Special thanks to Shawn Hedge and wife
who donated 200 candy filled Easter eggs in memory
of his mother, Karla Hedge. The Easter Memorial Tree
is loaded with memorial and honorarium eggs. As of
April 8, the Annie Armstrong Easter offering totaled
$1,585.00. Our goal is $4,000.00. Please search your
hearts and ask God to guide you in giving for our
North American Missionaries in order that they may
continue their valuable service for God’s glory
Our next WOM get together will be May 13 at 6PM
in the fellowship hall. Our theme is “In the Garden of
Life”. The mission spotlight for May is on Nate and
Aimee Fredrichson of Cleveland, Ohio. Ladies come
help us celebrate the “Buckeye state”. We’ll explore
Cleveland, learn about the Fredrichsons and their
mission and ministry to that city and even enjoy some
of their recipes.

Brotherhood News
27 people attended the Easter sunrise breakfast at
First Baptist following our Easter sunrise service at the
river. Members of the brotherhood, Jim Young,
Rickey Bell and Robert Lunceford prepared the
waffles, pancakes and sausage. Chuck Manz made the
coffee and warmed the syrup for the feast.
The brotherhood will have their regular breakfast
meetings the last Sunday of each month.

Hallelujah! He is Risen! Happy Easter everyone!
Spring has sprung and we are saying goodbye to the
last dark days of winter!  The youth are anticipating
the end of school, graduations and summer camp at
Jonathan Creek!
First we’d like to say thank you to everyone who
supported our yearly cross rental ministry. The crosses
are such a great community outreach with a very
important message that Jesus is alive! We put out 85
crosses all across the city and moved them to the
church yard the week before Easter. They looked
awesome! The proceeds from our cross ministry goes
into the youth fund for camp.  Speaking of camp, we
will be attending the Jonathan Creek the week of June
12-16. Please be in prayer for the kids and the
counselors as they spend this special time together.
The kids love this camp and it is important that all that
want to go are able to attend. Having said that, if you
would like to help send someone to camp, you can
donate to the youth fund (any amount is fine, but
sponsorships are $100.00) and you will surely be
It’s important that we are ready to go to camp, so
we will be having a camp meeting on Wednesday
night May 15 after the evening Bible study. If you
can’t be there, please make sure and see me
beforehand so we make sure all arrangements are
made before we head out on June 12.
As we head toward summer, there will be a lot of
activities going on outside church. It is important the
youth spend as much time together as possible. If you
would like to host the kids in your home for a youth
meeting, please let me know. Our church family is so
loving and encouraging to our kids and they love
spending time with each other, as well as the adult

Please continue to pray for all of us!
                                                                God Bless you all,
                                                     Kristy Riggs
