First Baptist Beacon
Notes From Bro. Doug: We have accomplished so much in the month of April at FBC. God is blessing and ministries are progressing. Praise The Lord!!!
Our new Senior Adult S.O.U.P. group had their first trip and it was a success. We had 9 people to go to Jackson, TN for shopping and a meal at Casey Jones. We all had a great time. Their next trip will be May 11th and the group is going to the Strawberry Festival in Humboldt, TN and will leave at 8:00 am. Bro. Jim DeReign will be the van driver and leader. I will be cooking 100's of ribs that day for the CHS Booster Club and baseball team.
Then the next week on May 18th, I will be cooking tons of Boston Butts for the FBC youth group during their BBQ camp fundraiser. Get your orders in quickly!! They will also have a bake sale and yard sale as well.
I want to thank Bro. John Gilbert for filling in for me on April 14th and for Phillip Barksdale filling in for me during the evening service with our first annual "National Day of Remembrance." I heard it was a huge success. I had a very uplifting and encouraging time with the people at Desloge Baptist Church. Directing their choir was awesome and I had a great time singing during the Revival services. In some ways it makes me miss the Minister of Music aspect of my ministry, but God has clearly called me to preach. They have already asked me to come back next year.
Due to so many things going on, I have moved the "Share Jesus Without Fear" class to June 1st. You can still sign-up for the class.
As of this writing we are getting ready for our Revival services and I know that God is going to bless in a mighty way. Keep praying for the results and the seeds planted this week. Be praying for the ministers
that preached and sang and led us in Revival. Let’s all continue to see if we are truly allowing the Holy Spirit to move in our lives and in our church.
It’s Great to Be Your Pastor!
Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter.
Women On Mission News: The amazing "Women on Mission" and our generous church family met our goal of $3,045.00 for Annie Armstrong! Thanks to all who gave and continue to pray for our mission work to come. Also, a big thank you to all who brought things for the VA hospital in Poplar Bluff. Christy will be delivering the last of these items soon and the VA volunteer coordinator has sent a message of great appreciation and gratitude to our local mission! Our meeting in April was to make upcoming plans to send our own mission/visitation coordinator Pam Peeler to the Ukraine in July. Many have already given donations toward this trip, so please be in prayer as she mentally and physically prepares for the work and the blessings God has in store for her. We will be planning some kind of fundraiser for Pam in the near future so be present and be willing to open your heart (and checkbook!). Pam is fulfilling the Great Commission and we can help her do it!
Our May meeting will be on Monday, the 13th in the fellowship hall at 6:30 pm. Margaret Nash has a friend coming to share her "mission quilt." we have a wonderful group of fun, funny, mission-minded ladies always willing to reach out and help someone. Please join us. You will be blessed.
Christy, Pam and Peggy

Youth Report: Well here we are at the end of one month and another upon us. April flew by without much happening. We do want to recognize one of our Seniors, Sara Riggs for a couple of things, one for being accepted into the music program at SEMO and second for becoming Cooter High School 2013 Prom Queen. Congrats! We are all so proud of you. We are also proud of graduating senior, Jacob Peeler.
In May camp deposits are due! The cost is $150.00 and need to be turned in ASAP! All youth that are going need to fill out their POI’s on the camp website and parents need to fill out the release form. The only thing we are planning for May is selling Boston Butts again. It will happen May 18th and we will be having a bake sale & yard sale at the church like we did last year. I believe that is all for now, but get ready because summer’s coming and it will be a different story!
Giving God the Glory,
Pam and (Chris) if he was well
Puppet Ministry: (4th Sunday of each month 5:00 pm)
Chris & Kristy Riggs are in charge of this ministry, if you are interested in helping, contact Chris or Kristy or if you would like to donate, we have a special fund for this ministry.
FBC’’s Praise and Worship Team
Your praise and worship team has been working very hard and I believe the results are outstanding!! We still have praise and worship every Sunday morning at 9:00 am in the memorial chapel. That is something you definitely don’t want to miss!!
We will minister on Wednesday night during our REVIVAL service and hope you are all in prayer over that. We believe that God will move in a mighty way as He prepares us for the work ahead. All Common Grounders we will have a special practice on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm for all who can make it just to work on revival songs.
That’s all for now! I’ll see you all Sunday morning at 9:00 am for Praise and Worship in the Memorial Chapel!
Soli Deo Gloria,
If you would like to be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of talent in our church and I hope you will share it with us!
FBC Adult Choir
Wednesday Nights at 8pm
The adult choir did an outstanding job on their Easter cantata, "Majesty". We hope that it touched hearts and encouraged us all to remember the sacrifice made for us by our Lord Jesus Christ. We will be singing this Sunday morning to kick off our REVIVAL services. We will be singing an old Hinson’s favorite called, "The Lighthouse." it’s not too late to be a part of what God is doing in this amazing group of people! If you would like to be a part of the Choir, get with Bro. Doug or me...we will definitely be able to use you!
The Baptist Hour: Every Sunday 8:00 am KCRV 1370
FBC Youth Choir
The youth choir has been very busy lately. We did a skit for THE THORN, and just last Sunday, did another production of "2 Extreme: The Musical" at Kinfolks Ridge Baptist Church. We had a lot of fun and can’t wait to do more things like that in the future. Right now; however, I have decided that this will be it for the tour this year. We have a lot of stuff that I really want us to begin working on before Summer starts and I think the youth are ready to move on as well. We will try the tour out again eventually, but I thing right now is just not the right time. BTW, if you would like to see some pictures of us at Kinfolks Ridge, just go to facebook and look for FBC Caruthersville Music Ministries. This is the group page for all things music here at FBC.
If you are not yet a part of 2 Extreme and would like to be, just be in the 2 Extreme Ward on the 3rd floor at 5:00 pm next Sunday, May 5th . You must be in the 7th grade through college and be willing to make a joyful noise!
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped with The Thorn this past Easter. It was so much fun to see the choir and Common Ground ministering together, along with 2 Extreme and everyone else who helped. I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us through our music departments!
Dear Doug & Church Members,
What a beautiful gesture of friendship and love you gave us during the Easter season. The Cross on our lawn was a daily reminder of what Easter is truly about. We were deeply humbled to be a part of this very touching memorial.
May God continue to bless all of you at First Baptist.
In Christian Love,
Paul & Dot Currie

GA’s & RA’s Missions :
We have had 8 girls coming to GA’s the past few weeks! We do not have any boys coming for RA’s at this time, but would love to have some. It’s for girls and boys in the 1st grade through the 4th grade. We have been learning about missionaries in China. Please come and join us!
5th and 6th Grade Missions:
We have spent the month of April learning about missionaries from West Africa. They have learned about some very young missionaries, as young as 7. Their faces just light up when they hear the ages. Their minds start racing about what kind of missionary work they could do. I would love to have your kids come on Wednesday night if they are not coming. Also, if anyone knows of any kids in 5th and 6th grade that I could make contact with, just let me know. God Bless.
Kristy Riggs, 5th & 6th Grade Missions

It has been a slow month as we have all been busy and regrouping from the Easter program, as well as the Easter holiday.
On Sunday, April 21, 2013, I treated the P.R.A.I.S.E. Team to a "Red Carpet" Cast Party! They ALL did an excellent job on the play. We had a formal sit-down affair. Everyone "dressed up" in their finest gowns, boas, jackets, hats and of course, sun glasses! We ate and then watched the premier of "The Easter Pageant That Almost Wasn’t." it was hilarious watching the kids watch themselves! After the viewing, the "stars" walked the Red Carpet to accept their Oscars. Many gave acceptance speeches that were also hilarious.
After all the fun, we got serious for about five seconds and listened to a few songs from the upcoming Fourth of July musical, "United We Stand." it will be presented on June 30 during the morning service. Please continue to remember the children as they begin their practice.
Thank you everyone who supports us and prays for us. We could not do it without you and the Lord!
