Bro. Don Says:
I wish you & yours, a Happy & Prosperous 2017. I hope you have made plans to rejoice in the things that God has in store for those that will allow Him to be SAVIOR & LORD.
I Corinthians 2:9 says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." We are to; "Praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" Psalms 107:8
I plan on, and am going to encourage you, to allow Jesus & God’s Holy Spirit, to have more control in Our actions & reactions. If we keep doing things the same, then we can expect to experience the same results. If things turned out good, Let’s do the same thing. If things & situations were bad, Let’s try something different. Even with the World on a collision course with Disaster, We can be encouraged, by knowing that GOD is still in CONTROL. Thanks for taking time to read these thoughts & observations.
Happy New Year!
Bro. Don Layman
FBC Worship Team
I am so proud of the wonderful job the worship team did on December 18th for our morning Christmas worship service. I hope it was a blessing to you as well. Right now, we are on break until Wednesday, January 11th. I have already begun writing the script and collecting songs for our Easter presentation on April 16th. I hope that will be a blessing as well. I’m excited about the new year and the prospects that it brings. I hope you and your family will have a blessed and happy New Year!
Singing His Praises,
Extreme Arts :
During the evening service on December 18th, Extreme Arts presented, "A Charlie Brown Christmas Redux". It was very well attended, and a lot of fun to do. The youth did so well, and I am extremely proud of them for all their hard work. It’s not often that we do a Christmas production, but I hope it was a blessing to you and your family. We will not be doing a Christmas Musical this coming year, but the group will still be a part of our Christmas festivities in some way or another. Instead, we will be doing something special in the Spring, and a program in the late Fall. I’m still working out the details on our Spring program, but will have more information for you on that a little later. Right now, we are on break until January 15th. I can’t wait to get started again!
Women On Mission:
Our Lottie Moon offering didn’t meet our goal this year for the first time in a very long time. Our offering $2,605.10. This means we will have to work a little harder this next year. I encourage you to do an offering all year long. Just mark an envelope as Lottie Moon offering. It’s much easier to do this, than to wait till the end of the year with Christmas and Taxes taking much of your extra money. Also, this is something I am going to try this year and that’s the penny challenge. Where each day of the year you put in a jar the amount of money for the day of the year. At the end of the year if you did this every day, you will have over $600.00 to give to Lottie Moon offering. What a difference that would make with our offering.
With the slow time of winter coming on, our plans are to get the church clean for spring and in anticipation of our new pastor. Moving out items no longer used and doing some repairs and maybe painting an area or two.
WOM will not meet during the winter months, but will be back on track for spring. Please join us in our effort to make mission a top priority in 2017 at FBC.
Have a Happy and Safe New Year!
Pam & Christy
Happy New Year everyone! We started off December passing out Bible companion books and candy for the Caruthersville Christmas parade. We thank Louie Franks & Theresa Jean for getting us the supplies to pass out. And thank you to the youth and younger kids that helped.
It was a pleasure to watch the ones that are in Extreme Arts perform the Charlie Brown Redux production. They did an awesome job. Thank you to Phil for working with them.
We had an awesome Christmas party on the 21st, lots of food, fellowship and games.
We are already getting geared up for camp. Our deposit for each youth is due February 15th, so I need the ones that want to go get with me. We are changing what we are doing this year. We are still going to Crossings Camps in Jonathan Creek, KY but we are going to the Camp40. This is a week of camp packed into 40 hours. The dates for this are June 16th - 18th . Of course since it’s not a week of camp, costs will be cheaper. Please come see me ASAP and I can give more information.
I want to take this time to say thank you to Pam Bullington for being my right hand man. She is there for all classes and all activities that we have. I really appreciate her. Also, to the youth committee (Hope Bynum and Phil Barksdale) for being so supportive.
Please continue to pray for us as we start a new year. Pray for new growth within the youth that are coming and pray for growth of our youth group. The world is getting more cruel everyday, and these kids endure a lot. So, please continue to remember them in your prayers.
