Notes From Bro. Doug:

I’ve always said, "Great things are coming to First Baptist Caruthersville," but it is conditional, it will depend on commitment, faithfulness, giving and true Christian maturity filled with love. Let’s get revived and continue to see how great God is!!!

I am thankful for all the teachers and committee members for the 2011 - 2012 church year. If you have any needs or concerns, please see me ASAP!

I want to thank the church for allowing me to go back to the convention. I have really felt out of the loop for 2 years by not going to the convention. Pray for me as I represent First Baptist Church and as I recharge and find new ideas, new approaches and make new contacts.

As I reached 50 years old I realize I only have 15 - 20 years of full time service to the Lord left. I want the years remaining to be a success. I want to see many come to Jesus. It is my prayer that First Baptist Church wants the same!!!!

The Women On Mission met Monday, October 9, 2011 in the church fellowship hall. The theme for the meeting was "Live Sent." Jo Ann has put together a list of 40 members. We also have a list of women in the church we would love to become involved in WMU!! I will begin sending invitation and reminders before each meeting. Our hope is that more women will join us and become involved in this important ministry.

The mums came in and were just beautiful!!! now we are selling poinsettias. All proceeds from this sale will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Get your poinsettias soon, the deadline for ordering is November 2nd.

Our women will be helping with a meal for the youth as they undertake the 30 hour famine. We are so excited to be a part of this exciting event!!

Thank you to everyone who helped with the service on World Hunger Day. I believe it was a success and was topped off by an awesome youth service that night!!!

Our next meeting will be on November 7th in the fellowship hall. Barbara Meales, Susan Pinkerton and Margaret Nash will be in charge of refreshments that night. The meeting has been moved up a week as the 7th is Baptist Women’s Day of Prayer. Please join us that evening.

Operation Christmas Child

Please join us for the opportunity to hear how simple box gifts are changing entire communities and starting children off on their Greatest Journey with Jesus Christ!! This year we have purchased boxes through Samaritan’s Purse for Operation Christmas Child. We have 100 so we need lots of supplies to keep our youth and mission groups filling them up!! Our deadline of November 13th is fast approaching!! We have a box in the fellowship hall to overflow with gifts to distribute to missionaries to needy, poverty stricken, sick, homeless children. Please help us do this!!

Some examples of items to include are:

Something to wear

Something to love

Something special

Something for school

Something to play with

Something for personal hygiene

You may also leave a personal note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may write back. Enclose these things in a sealed envelope to go in one of the "G.O. Box = Gospel Opportunity Box."

Thank you for helping and participating in this important mission ministry.

From the Pastor:

When you know of a church member going into the hospital and need a visit or a prayer from the pastor or a deacon, please call the pastor or the church office.

I know that hospital visits and nursing home visits are a weakness of my ministry, so I am going to try to do better in this area. But I need family members’ help and your help to do my job better.

Constant News: It’s Fall Ya’ll

I’ve often heard it’s not the quantity, it’s the quality..that has never been more true now with this group of teenagers. They are so committed to the church and God’s word. They will do anything asked of them and usually with a smile. Well, they will do it. Anyway, I recently asked them to do the Sunday night service while Bro. Doug was away at a revival. They gathered their talents, practiced, reneged their offers, then practiced some more!! They Re-volunteered and man, did they ever give us a blessing!! If you weren’t there, you missed it!! I was brought to tears. Of course that might have been relief, but they were really something. We were blessed in song by Ashley, Emma and Dylan, Caroline, Sara, and last but certainly not least, Beth. Emma was the emcee for the night. Sara played the invitation while Dylan showed off his guitar talents during the offering. Finally, Parr preached a sermon entitled, "The Well" that was awesome. I think everyone would agree that they are certainly a blessing to this church.

One Saturday night, a few of us gathered together to attend a bon fire hosted by Jessica Bullington and her family. Jessica’s directions were, "Behind the levee, on the river." that narrowed it down! We finally figured out where they were and made it in time for roasted hotdogs and s’mores. A great time was had and we appreciated the invitation.

I spoke in an earlier newsletter about Emma listening to the call of God. She not only is listening, she is acting on it. She took it upon herself to research the "Meet Me at the Pole" and presented her information last Sunday night. All the kids learned the origin and many facts related to the event, thanks, Emma! She has taken on quite a leadership role.

We have a couple of big events coming up. One is the Fall Festival that we were asked to host. I said yes and went upstairs to tell them the good news! I got the what-have-you-signed-up-for-now look from most of them. After hearing about the festivities, they agreed to do it just like I knew they would. It’s on Sunday night, Oct. 30, from 4:00-6:00. There will be games, prizes, jumpy house, candy, and lots more. Please take a sticky note from the kitchen to agree to bring something to help. We need your help.

The second event is a weekend trip to Van Buren on Friday Oct. 21. We will hear Dylan’s band & Sammy Knuckles speak. We will be leaving at 4:00 pm & coming back on the 22nd around 3:00. I have 7 people signed up, but usually more show up when it’s time to leave.

I realize this is long, but we have so much good news to share.
