Notes From Bro. Doug:

Revival has truly started at FBC. We had 3 salvations and 1 re-dedication and many seeds planted.

We will have a baptismal service on Sunday Nov. 18th during the morning worship service. We could be baptizing up to 5 new Christians. PTL!!!

I See the spirit of the church moving at FBC. I see people serving, loving, & helping. New people are coming weekly. You have done wonderful things and God is going to use you all even more.

We want to thank Bro. Gary Nolen for 11 ½ years of FAITHFUL service. He has been called by God to another church. Let’s pray for him as he leads his new congregation. The church voted to hire Bro. Phillip Barksdale as interim music director. We know God will continue to use him in a great way, just as He has already.

The music committee is considering the options available about hiring a new minister of music. Please fill out the survey in this week’s bulletin.

Again, Revival has started, let’s keep it going! Keep praying for Bro. Marty Carlyle and Bro. Jim Clark as they minister for Jesus.

It’s Great to Be Your Pastor!

Bro. Doug

Adult Choir Starts Back:

We will be meeting for choir at 8:00 pm instead of 7:45 starting Wednesday Oct. 31st. The Youth and Mission groups need more time to finish their lessons and mission projects.

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter.

Women On Mission News:

We will have a missionary from Peru on Wednesday night November 28th. The missionary is a friends of Bro. Doug and Peggy and her name is Amy Fisher. She is on furlow and will be telling us of many great ways that the Lottie Moon Christmas offering has helped her and many other missionaries. We want all classes and all ages to gather in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm. We will have the Week of Prayer kick-off on Sunday night December 2nd at 5:00 pm in the sanctuary. Week of Prayer for International Missions is Dec. 2 - 9.

The next Women on Mission meeting is November 5th at 6:30 pm. We are meeting a week early to give room for the Blood drive on Nov. 12th. Please come to the meeting and the blood drive.

The WOM group has been very busy. We are helping organize the Talent Service this Sunday Oct. 28th at 6:00 pm. Then we are asking the men of the church to participate in the Billy Crocker Cook-Off. We are asking men to bring a dessert or desserts and enter them in the judging after the Talent Service. The cost is $5.00 for each dessert. Then the congregation will buy a bowl for $1.00 and taste each entry. All the entry fees and donations will go toward reaching our goal of $10,000.00 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The Samaritan Purse Christmas shoe boxes are due by Nov. 18th. Please bring them in, with the $7.00 for shipping, as soon as possible. This is a great ministry that reaches many for Jesus Christ.

We are planning on having our Christmas Merry Market on December 1st before, during and after the Caruthersville Christmas parade. Please bring baked goods and Christmas Crafts to sell at the market. All proceed will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

We are selling Smoked Turkey Breast for Thanksgiving again this year. The turkey breast will sell for $25.00 each and will average about 7-8 pounds (pre cooked -bone-in). We will not be selling side dishes this year.

Youth Report:

Hello again! Does anyone know where October went? The Youth have been very busy this month with lots of activities. We were very blessed this month and give God the credit.

We started off the month on Saturday Oct. 6th with a fund raiser pizza making day. WHEW! Before we knew it we had sold well over 200 pizzas and ended up making around 262 pizzas on this day. We want to thank Robert at Pizza Hut in Hayti and Lynn at Daylight Donuts in Caruthersville for the pizza boxes. Brother Doug was a big help and donated the pizza bags along with making the order for the supplies and his supervisory skills on production day...yelling 72 more, 45 more, 13 more, 25 more, 66 more, you get the picture! :).

This day was also a special day for making new kinds of pizza at First Baptist. This was the new dawning day of the 3 meat and potato pizza! No complaints and lots of rave reviews of how good the pizzas tasted. Thank you to all that supported this fund raising effort. We are still collecting money but will have made between $1,500.00 and $1,800.00.

The very next day on Sunday the 7th we had our Youth Diner Day with chili and R-3 Hot Tamales as the focus of the meal. A big Thank You goes out to Bro. Doug, Mrs. Peggy and Mrs. Marilyn Boyd for donating the Hot Tamales and to Jonna & Donnie Green and Mrs. Shirley Figgins for donating the chili. Thank you to those who brought desserts and for the donations made. We made a little over $400.00 on this day.

On Sunday Oct. 14th , 2012 was a bitter sweet day for First Baptist with Bro. Gary Nolen, our long time Music Director, led his last service with FBC and left to go to serve the Lord at a church in Tennessee. A GREAT meal was held in his honor and Gary received many cards and hugs this day. Good Luck Gary with your new endeavor.

Later in the day we all gathered in the sanctuary for a concert given by BLEND, WOW is all I can say. From the time the singers started until they left the building the

Youth loved every minute of the concert. These young men are very talented and if you missed this concert you really missed a blessing at FBC sent straight from GOD. We enjoyed left over’s from lunch after the concert and NO one went home hungry! The youth, especially the girls are still talking about BLEND somewhere today!

Friday Oct. 19th, we met at the church to get ready for the Chili Cook-Off on Oct. 20th. Chop, chop & chop the onions, etc. until about 11:00 that night and back to church at 6:00 am the next morning. WHEW! Is all I can say! We started setting up at around 7:00 am on Saturday morning. We were blessed to have so many of you bring your delicious desserts for our bake sale. We had hot dogs, chicken wings, & chili. I was so proud to see the outpouring of support not only from our community but especially from our FBC congregation. Lots of you stopped by and bought food and just gave words of encouragement. We were able to talk with many people that day about GOD and First Baptist Church. Many were invited and hopefully some will come. I cannot even begin to tell those of you who made donations from our donations board or just gave a donation how important of a part you played in the success of this fund raiser. We won first place in dessert with the ingenious baking mind of Mrs. Kristy Riggs and over all had a very good day. Congratulations to Kevin & Adam Riggs along with the Prescription Drug Store chili team for taking 1st Place in chili and 3rd in dessert at this year’s event. Common Ground performed on the steps of the Methodist Church for a large crowd who gathered from downtown and we received good reviews for the performance.

You know all of these activities we take part in allow the Youth of FBC the opportunity to let the community know that they are part of something blessed by God. This gives us the opportunity to tell people about God and invite those who may not be going to church somewhere to our church. These activities also are opportunities for the youth to step up and be a part of a group, take responsibility and do their part to make each event or fund raiser a success. These are good social and financial building skills that they will take with them while becoming adults. We give God the credit for each and everything we do. God is good, All of the time!!

On Oct. 21st we started Revival. WOW is all I can say about Bro. Marty & Bro. Jim. They did a good job. The spirit of the Lord was everywhere. The feeling in the congregation & church during the Revival was UPLIFTING to say the least. I am so

proud of my Youth and the other young children who were in attendance most every night during the revival. We filled almost the front four rows up each night. The youth were very attentive during the message given by Bro. Marty and loved every minute of Bro. Jim and music he provided during the revival. I was so proud to see so many of our church members present during the revival. We had 3 youth saved and 1 re-dedication and many seeds planted. We will take them one at a time or 40 at a time as long as the bottom line of accepting Christ is gained.

We are looking forward to helping the WOM with making the goal of $10,000.00 for Lottie Moon. I encourage everyone to do what they can as we come into the Christmas & holiday seasons. We are blessed to have what we do and there are so many out there that need our help.

You will have a form in this Sunday’s bulletin for you to fill out. This form will be for the Youth to do work at your home or if you need help with anything around your house, maybe putting things up for the winter, raking leaves, shoveling snow, cleaning out gutters, etc. all projects and money made by the Youth during the months of November & December will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Congratulations to those Youth & others from FBC that were in the Variety Show at the armory. It was a HOOT!! If you missed this performance make sure you don’t miss the next.

We are getting ready for the Talent Show and Billy Crocker Bake-Off on Oct. 28th but you will have to read the outcome of this night in next month’s report. They want me to sing??? we will see? The money raised on this will got to Lottie Moon.

I am so excited about what is going on here at FBC & you should too. Just look around and see what God is providing for us and how the Holy Spirit is moving in many, many people’s lives. Just remember to give God the credit for all things in your life good or bad. God will hear your prayers and He will provide for you!

God Bless you all,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth Pastor

2 Extreme Youth Choir

Every other Sunday @ 5pm in the choir room!

We take it to the extreme!!

We will be presenting the musical entitled 2 EXTREME (wow, that sounds familiar), on November 4th at 5pm. Today’’s youth are faced with some very difficult decisions as they go to these war zones we refer to as public schools. This musical talks about a group of friends who decide that just saying, ""we’’ll pray about it"" is no longer good enough! They decide that it’’s too easy to just talk the walk; it’’s time to walk the talk! By turning their High School cafeteria into a prayer meeting, they declare war on compromise and complacency. They soon discover; however, that living the life isn’’t always a popular decision with their friends and family.

This musical features songs from Dove Award winning artists such as Michael W. Smith, Toby-Mac, Jars of Clay, Casting Crowns, Rich Mullins, and the Newsboys……just to name a few! I hope you will come and watch the musical on November 4th, not only to see all the hard work your kiddo’’s have been putting into it, but we are praying that you would also accept the challenge, to live the life without compromise. We are praying that lives would be changed and re-arranged by the message of this musical, which we hope will be only the first of many to come!

On November 11th, we will have a wrap party at 6pm in the fellowship hall. This will be a potluck type party, so be thinking about what you want to bring. We will discuss this more on Sunday! After that, the youth choir will be on hiatus until February for the winter. Thanks to everyone who has helped us and are continuing to help put this production together. I love every one of you and can’’t wait until next season! For those of you in the choir and your parents, here is our practice schedule up to the day we present the musical.

October 28 Sanctuary 3pm

October 29 Sanctuary (Main Cast Only) 6pm

November 1 Sanctuary (Main Cast Only) 6pm

Common Ground

FBC’’s Praise and Worship Team

Common Ground is the name of the praise and worship team that you’’ve seen around the church. It features, Chris Riggs on drums, Sara Riggs on Bass guitar, me on piano, and Amanda Maclin, Connor Barksdale, Beth Prater, and sometimes Erin ""Roo"" Barksdale on vocals. Billy Brooks is also a member of the team and runs our sound for us. We have rehearsals every other Sunday at 3pm in the chapel, and we lead a praise and worship service every Sunday morning at 9am in the chapel.

On October 20th, we were able to minister in music at the chili cook-off community event. It went very well and we were very well received. I hope this will be a continued tradition for the worship team. Dylan Treece has stepped down from playing guitar with us on a regular basis, due to a very heavy work-load! Counting the worship team, he plays in three bands, then add school, theatre, youth choir and other commitments, it was just too much. He played with us at the cook-off, and did an awesome job as usual! It is amazing how God is using Dylan in so many ways. I love it when youth are willing to let God lead and use them to minister. I can’’t wait to see all you accomplish in the future, Shaggy!

Soli Deo Gloria,

FBC Adult Choir

Wednesday Nights at 8pm

We are recruiting additional members for the adult choir! If you are interested, please talk to me or Bro. Doug! I am looking forward to working with the choir, with a little help from the Pastor, and can’’t wait to get started. We are definitely looking to add some more guys to the group! So, talk to us and be at the next Choir rehearsal, which will October 31st, at 8pm! Hope to see you there. If you would like be put on the calendar to sing a special in our morning service, please get with me, so I can put you in the rotation! We have a lot of talent in our church, and I hope you will share it with us!

ATTENTION FBC: This year instead of doing a float for the Christmas Parade, we will be handing out scarves, mittens, gloves, socks, zip up cotton hoodies, and bottled water. Please take this time to give to our community and donate these items in all sizes for infant, children, and adult. A box will be placed in the fellowship hall on Sunday, October 28th.

FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

Wow! How time has flown. It only seems as if we have just completed the Easter musical (I still have some things to put upstairs), and now we have begun the Christmas musical for 2012! The children had their choice, as I said before, as to be ""people"" characters or ""animal"" characters; and they chose animal! They are very excited about getting a part. I am excited that they are excited! We also have some new children who have signed on this season and that is also very exciting! Our musical is ""Company’’s Coming!"" It once again takes place in a stable; however, the storyline is a little different, and the songs are very different.

I am so blessed that God has allowed me to be able to work with these children. They have so much energy——much more than I do! I am VERY thankful for those Sundays when Vaughn is there to help me direct their energy the right way. I am also thankful for the outpouring of those who have already stepped forward to let me know they are willing to make costumes, sets, props, etc. Thank you to Pam Peeler for making my copies of the play for the children. That was SUCH a great help on that very full weekend.

As we will be working at least two hours a week at church, we once again will be having a snack time midway through our practice——THEY NEED MORE ENERGY! If you feel led to help out with hot dogs, pizza, ""pigs in a blanket,"" drinks, chips and dip, or anything else, please let me know.

Thank you everyone for all you do. Please pray for the children and everyone involved with musical. We also ask that you begin to pray in advance for those who will attend the program. We pray that God will use us as His vessels to spread His Word to those who don’’t know Him as their personal Savior.

Praising Him,

GA’s and RA’s

The GA and RA group has been meeting in the "green" room for over a month now with about 10 kids in attendance. We think we might just call it "Kids for Christ" of something catchy like that until we get a few more boys interested. One night we gave the kids straws and tape and they had to build a church. They really came up with some creative designs and had a great time in the process.

The group ran around town one night hanging up posters for the revival. They are also working on cards to send to the nursing home. What a fun group of kids to be working with and we are thankful for the opportunity. These kids are the future of missions.
