A Word From Your Pastor:

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This is a very special time of year to Susan and I. We love the fall and all that it brings. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy spirits as we begin our decent into the Christmas season.

Thanksgiving is always a fun time allowing us to EAT and then EAT some more. Most people decide to dump the diet for a few months this time of year, which could be a BAD decision for some of us. Our Lord is Awesome as usual. He provides for us continually in all different sorts of ways. He is why we are thankful for all we enjoy on a daily basis.

My prayer and hope this holiday season we remember to thank HIM for every facet of our lives. Church is so very important to us as believers in Christ. I hope you understand and appreciate our Awesome church family that we have been given. Church attendance is also very important and I pray we encourage those who do not come on a regular basis. Make a call or visit to those whom you know who are in your circle of influence and encourage them to make a commitment to church attendance. Invite someone you know to come join us and keep inviting them!

Susan and I wish you a GREAT Thanksgiving season this month. Please attend the Community Thanksgiving Service in a couple of weeks at Temple Baptist as I will be bringing the Word this year. Hugs and Kisses from us to you this special time of the year.

In Christ,

Pastor Jimmy

Women On Mission:

Hasn’t time just slipped away? Here it is almost the end of the year and so much to do. Samaritan boxes will be due in a few weeks. I hope you are in the process of getting yours together. Boxes and tags are in the foyer between the fellowship hall and sanctuary.

We will be doing a bake sale outside on the lawn the day of the Christmas parade, December 2. This will help our Lottie Moon offering. As was stated in the last newsletter, there will be no Merry Mart this year, but if you have anything to give, we will put it up for next year. Just get it to church or call and someone will pick it up.

My amazon mission trip, all made possible by my generous church family, was awesome. I look forward to sharing the results with you.

Our Thanksgiving meal for church is November 19, after the morning worship, you won’t want to miss the good food and fellowship.

Be in prayer for our missionaries, they face many obstacles that we can’t imagine. The missionary couple I served with has been in the field this time for 4 months. Their home was broken into and EVERYTHING was stolen. Their neighbor contacted a member of their family and they got word to them while they were on the boat with us. They were devastated and heart broken, but served as if nothing happened. Our team took up an offering for them and raised $1,000 towards helping them replenish their humble home. We left them at the last village and they would be catching a Water Taxi to their village that was a few hours away. The boat is docked now until January, the rains have to pass and maintenance done. I ask that you think about this, What is the last thing you did unselfishly for someone today?

Extreme Arts

We are getting ready for our annual retreat/workshop, which will be November 3rd through the 5th. I’m very stoked about this and can’t wait to get to it. We could use some help with meals for lunch and supper on November 4th. If you would like to volunteer to help with this, please let me know.

We are also planning our Christmas party and annual Christmas shopping trip. This year, we will be going to Cape Girardeau, Mo. Make sure you bring plenty of shopping money and money for lunch. We will be going to the Golden Corral to eat this year. We will leave at 9:00 AM and return around 6:00 PM. We will be drawing names again this year for the Christmas party and will do so on November 12th. Please make sure you are there for that. We will be mixing it up with the worship choir again as always.

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

Our Tuesday night class going strong. We are still in Genesis and will be moving into Exodus shortly. After that, we will approach the remaining books of the Pentateuch, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, at the same time in kind of topical study format. Come and join us as we study God’s word together.

FBC Worship Choir

For Christmas this year, we will be doing a joint production with the choir from North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville. We will be doing the musical, "The Christmas Shoes", based on the song and movie of the same name. It will feature some of your all-time favorite Christmas songs along with a few new songs by the group Newsong. The presentation will be a two night event. The first production will be on Thursday, December 7th at North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville, AR at 6:00 pm. The last night will be at our church on Friday, December 8th at 6:00 pm. These are free events, and I hope you will come and attend both nights if possible. Bring the whole family! I am very excited about this and hope it will be a blessing to our two communities.

Singing His Praises,

4th Annual Christmas Extravaganza

Our Christmas extravaganza will take place this year on December 17th right after the children’s choir program. As you know, this is a potluck style event. We’re asking you to bring your favorite Christmas desserts, candies and finger foods. Extreme Arts will moderate as they do every year and will treat you to games, fun, drama and music, while you chow down on your favorite Christmas snacks. There will be door prizes and all sorts of fun, so make sure you stick around and celebrate with us!

Community Christmas Eve Service

Christmas Eve will be on Sunday this year, so we will not have our regular services or classes that evening. Instead, we will meet together for our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 5:00 PM in the sanctuary. If you would like to sign up for special music or to do a reading, please get with me, so I can put you on the schedule. Also, the first Sunday of Advent is December 3rd. If your family would like to light a candle for one of those Sundays or for the Christmas Eve service please get with the Pastor to be put on the schedule.

Thank you to our church family for all the prayers, cards, food, visits and your concerns during both of our illnesses.

Youth News:

Hello everyone! We are still working on our Armor of God study by Priscilla Shirer. It’s taking us a little longer to do it because there’s been a lot going on in October so we have missed some class time.

We took a group of 8 to Poplar Bluff to go to a Field of Faith. This was at the high school football field. Between all the testimonies, worship time and speaker we really enjoyed it.

We had a booth set-up at the chili cook-off on October 14th. Thank you to the ones that made desserts for our bake sale.

We had a lock-in on Friday, October 20th. This was a last minute decision to have this, but with the high school having a by week, I thought it would be a good time to do it. Plus, I’ve really been wanting to do another Bible study I have titled "Courage" by Francis Chan. This was a 4 session video Bible study where Francis opens up the scripture and showed students how their faith in Christ can give them the ability to live their life defined by courage. Many students fear what people would think if they stood up for the truth. It is tempting for students to blend in with the crowd and keep silent. But this isn’t the only thing we did that night. We also had lots of games, food and a talent show. It was a great night and I must say this "old" lady hung in there with the young people.

As of right now, with a busy holiday season coming up, we don’t have any other dates planned for anything. But you see we are busy in class, so please keep us in your prayers as we continue to walk beside these youth...just sitting and talking with them every week, you realize just how much they have going in their lives..good and bad.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Congratulations to Sandra Hooker for 49 years of a perfect Sunday School attendance record!
