Notes From Bro. Doug:

Wow time sure is flying by!! We had an awesome September here at FBC. I think the highlight was our great attendance on "Come Back To Church" day and then the huge crowd at the annual picnic. We all had a great time.

You will notice, by the full newsletter, that we have something for everyone at FBC. It is my prayer that you are active and taking advantage of all that God is doing here at FBC. Everything we do is to Exalt Jesus Christ!!!

I am excited about the elected deacons, committee members and leadership for this round of servant leaders. We did not have any struggles filling the jobs and positions...PTL!!! Let’s jump in with 2 feet and accomplish what God has called us all to do.

Keep praying for our revival services Oct. 21st - 24th. Bro. Marty Carlisle will be preaching God’s Word and Bro. Jim Clark will be leading the music. Make plans now to attend!!!

Women On Mission News:

The month of September has been a month of giving and sharing for the Women on Mission. We met on Monday, September 10 with 13 present. We started our meeting putting together 10 trays of delicious cookies that everyone so generously brought and Pam Peeler delivered them to our police, fire, first responders and others who help keep us safe as a remembrance of September 11. We even delivered to Hayti! The gesture was very well received. Sometimes just a small token of thanks can make someone’s day! Peggy Boyd then shared more memories and pictures of her trip to India and we were inspired by the work being done there. Please continue to keep Laura Boyd in your prayers as she continues to serve.

We are continuing to collect food for a needy family as well as some household and hygiene supplies for two foster mothers. I will be distributing the lists around the church this Sunday so if you don’t mind to pick up an extra bottle of shampoo, toilet paper, etc. these will surely be helpful to these who are trying to give these children a better way of life. This is a wonderful local mission opportunity!

Information is on its way regarding the "Operation Christmas Child" shoebox ministry. We already have the actual boxes, but if you would like to bring items to put in the boxes, we will be putting them together at our October 8 meeting. Ladies, please come join the fun and fellowship at 6:30 pm

God is doing great things at First Baptist Church!

Youth Report:

Things may be cooling off outside but the excitement level about Jesus and our church is heating up with the First Baptist Youth Group.

We had a really good month in September with "Very" good attendance every time the doors are open. We had our monthly birthday party for those who had a birthday in July and everyone had a good time. We had cake and washed it down with a Bible study.

Our pizza fundraiser has been going good and is finishing up on Sunday, Sept. 30th, 2012 and if you have not ordered your pizzas from us yet please get with me or one of the youth. We will make the pizzas on Saturday, Oct. 6th, 2012 and they will be ready for pick up after lunch or we will deliver them to you. They are really good pizzas and the money goes to your Youth group.

We had a really good time and a HUGE turnout at the church picnic. It appeared to me that everyone had a good time and enjoyed the fellowship and food. The weather was great and can you believe all of the kids playing and having a good Christian fellowship time with each other. It was amazing!! One warning to everyone if you play horseshoes with Bro. Phil Barksdale, be ready to jump and run. He is dangerous!! Thanks to Bro. Jim Young for bringing the horseshoes and Bro. Josh Boyd for bringing the volleyball net. If you missed this event you missed out.

So it’s cooled off and time to start eating good hearty warm things soooo...on Sunday, October 7th, we will have a Youth Diner in the fellowship hall after church. We will be featuring the Famous R-3 Party hot tamales and chili with dessert of course. Bro. Doug bought about 50 dozen earlier in the year and it’s time to cook’em up and put’em down. If you don’t like tamales you can eat chili. We will have all of the fixin’s to go with everything so plan on eating with us and supporting your First Baptist Youth Group on this day.

We will be taking part in the Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, October 20th, 2012 in downtown Caruthersville. This is another fundraiser for us and we would like to ask the ladies of the church to help make baked goods for a bake sale at our booth. You can bring them to the booth that day or call me or leave the items at the church on the Friday before and we will make sure they get to the booth.

We will be cooking chili, chicken wings, frying things like Oreo’s and we will have the jumper set up ready to go. Please come out and support your Youth Group and the efforts being made by them to raise money. Pray for good weather. If you want to make a donation to help offset some of the expenses to participate in the cook-off that would be greatly appreciated. Come by and taste what we are cooking up...you won’t be disappointed.

I can see and feel God working on the youth that are struggling to find their way. I can also see and feel God reinforcing His love and presence in the youth that have already dedicated their lives to Jesus and know that they are going to heaven when the time comes. We will continue to teach the youth about Jesus and pray that we can help save some lost souls. Please pray with us.

Chris & Kristy Riggs,

Youth Pastor

Extreme Youth Choir

Every other Sunday @ 5:00 pm in the choir room

We take it to the extreme!!

The FBC choir room used to be such a nice, melodic place...then we showed up! If you weren’t aware that FBC Caruthersville had a youth choir, don’t worry-you will be! We plan on getting in everyone’s way and making a lot of noise very soon! We are currently working on a musical entitled 2 EXTREME (wow, that sounds familiar), which we will present to the church on November 4th at 6:00 pm. Today’s youth are faced with some very difficult decisions as they go to these war zones we refer to as public schools. This musical talks about a group of friends who decide that just saying, "we’ll pray about it" is no longer good enough! They decide that it’s too easy to just talk the walk; it’s time to walk the talk! By turning their High School cafeteria into a prayer meeting, they declare war on compromise and complacency. They soon discover; however, that living the life isn’t always a popular decision with their friends and family.

This musical features songs from Dove Award winning artists such as Michael W. Smith, Toby-Mac, Jars of Clay, Casting Crowns, and the Newsboys..just to name a few! I hope you will come and watch the musical on November 4th, not only to see all the hard work your kiddo’s have been putting into it, but we are praying that you would also accept the challenge, to live the life without compromise. We are praying that lives would be changed and re-arranged by the message of this musical, which we hope will be only the first of many to come!

If you are between the ages of 12 and 19 and would like to be a part of our youth choir, there is still time for you to do so! Just be at our next rehearsal on September 30th, at 5:00 pm in the choir room. We would love to have you!! For those of you in the choir and your parents, here is our practice schedule up to the day we present the musical.

Sept. 30: choir room 5:00 pm

Oct. 14: sanctuary 5:00 pm

Oct. 28: sanctuary 3:00 pm

Nov. 2 sanctuary 6:00 pm

Nov. 3 sanctuary 3:00 pm

Nov. 4 sanctuary 2:00 pm

November 4 Sanctuary 5:00 pm (production)

Common Ground

FBC’s Praise and Worship Team

Common Ground is the name of the praise and worship team that you’ve seen around the church. It features, Chris Riggs on drums, Dylan Treece on lead guitar, Sara Riggs on bass guitar, me on piano, and Amanda Maclin, Connor Barksdale, Beth Prater, and sometimes Erin "Roo" Barksdale on vocals. Billy Brooks is also a member of the team and runs our sound for us. We have rehearsals every other Sunday at 3:00 pm in the chapel, and we lead a praise and worship service every Sunday morning at 9:00 am in the chapel.

We just finished a worship team workshop, which we named in memory of our former guitar player, Kevin McCoy. Kevin went to be with the Lord on August 20th, and though he was only with us a short time, is greatly missed. I had the privilege of playing with Kevin in another worship team for almost 3 years, & though I know Heaven has gained a great guitar player, who is probably not missing us at all, I still miss my friend. The Sunday following his homecoming, the worship team wore red, white & blue arm-bands as a tribute to Kevin, because those were colors he wore the most. Connor, Erin, Chris and I also played the Michael W. Smith song, "Friends" as a tribute in that same service.

The workshop went well, and I believe we all learned a lot about worship that we didn’t know before. I am so thankful for our special guests, Mark Brantley, who led the vocal workshop, & Jack Owens, who led the band workshop. It was such a great time to get to play & sing with those guys, who gave us so much valuable help with our new ministry here at the church. I am also very thankful for Bro. Doug and Kristy Riggs who helped out with breakfast and lunch, I’m still craving those sausage and cream cheese thingys, and Bro. Doug taught the first session which was about Biblical Worship. Another big thanks to Morgan Treece, who made the most rockin’ cookies I’ve ever seen or tasted! My biggest thanks goes to everyone who showed up for the event and the concert that followed, as well as to the greatest church family in the world who allowed us to have this workshop, and this ministry. Your support of our little worship team is so amazing to me. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to minister to you through music!

Other than that, there’s a good chance we will be ministering

at the Chili Cook-Off on Oct. 20th on Ward Ave. The cook-off starts at 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. I know the youth will also be there representing the church, so come grab some chili, and hang out with us. Also, come worship the Lord with us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am. There’s no better way to start the day!

Soli Deo Gloria,

5th & 6th Grade Mission Class News

Hello everyone. We have been very busy learning lots about missionaries. Every week we have an activity or game (they love this) that goes with the lesson. Then we talk about our missionary for the week. You can see the amazement in the kids eyes as they learn what the missionaries go through and the work they do to spread the word about Jesus. It’s awesome to see. Also, we have been doing our own mission project. Bible and a buck is collecting your Bibles from your house that you are no longer using. The buck is for shipping costs. We are having a little trouble keeping up with our box so if you would like to turn a Bible in and you don’t see the box, just find me and I will take it. When we collect all that we are going to collect, we are going to make bookmarks to put in them before we ship them. That way, we can let others know about us. I really enjoy my Wednesday nights with this class and would love to have your children if they are not coming.

FBC P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

As school has once again begun, and vacations are coming to an end, our children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team attendance has picked up on Sunday nights. We had a huge crowd at our "Back to School Bash" held at Little Pizza Heaven. Thank you Kristy Stevens-once again-for helping Vaughn and I!! We passed out quarters to the kids and let them take turns playing games. Then we had pizza and cookies until we could eat no more!! I have to say that our kids got along very well and were really pleasant to take out.

We played "Bibleopoly" one Sunday evening when attendance was down. It was such a hit that I decided to play it again the next Sunday night (thinking we might not have too many in class). WE HAD 15 KIDS!! Once again, the children got along very well, waiting patiently for their turn every 15th child, and we all had a great time!!

We are presently working on some new songs and also brushing up on some old ones. The kids LOVE being allowed to be a "little rowdy," but they get everything I ask accomplished...and more! Please pray with us about performing at our own church services, as well as a couple of upcoming community events. Also, October is our month to begin Christmas musical practice. THEY ALL WANT TO BE ANIMALS AGAIN, so be prepared!!

We have several younger children this year, but I am very proud of how the older children always pitch in helping them learn the words and actions to the songs (and help me keep them in line). Sometimes, I feel like the Duggars-one older child to every younger child! I must say, our older children are great role models to our younger ones. They are also great role models at school and in the community. I am very proud to see OUR FBC kids in the Democrat Argus frequently, learning to be good citizens. But we all know that what makes one a great Christian WILL make them a great citizen!

Continue to pray for our group as we strive to P.R.A.I.S.E. the Lord and share His Word through music and smiles! The world can be reached and changed through OUR children. Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

GA’s Class

The GA’s have geared up this fall with the help of Dana Constant and Kristi Stevens. We have been meeting on Wednesday nights with about 10 - 12 girls in attendance. The focus of this group is to give girls the foundation to be missionaries or help with mission projects. Mrs. Peggy gave us an informative slide show about her mission trip this summer. One of the activities we have started is memorizing Bible verses. Once the kids have recited 12 verses, they will receive a badge for their sash. Another way to earn a badge will be for service projects. We have started a couple of those as well. The ages for this girls class is from 1st grade to 6th grade so be sure and encourage any girls you know to come on Wednesday night after Jammin’ For Jesus at 6:30 pm. We are very excited about this group.

RA’s have started with 12 kids meeting, we’re memorizing bible verses, learning about missionaries and planning our own mission projects, such as making cards for the nursing home residents, make cookies for the shut-ins, decorating a box for the supplies for the foster children and for our own operation Christmas Child box. If you are in K - 4th Grade we would love to have you on Wednesday nights from 7:00 - 8:00. Ya’ll come!
