October, 2014

Notes From Bro. Doug:
We had such a busy September. Seems like every other
week we are having a baby shower and a baby dedication,
and that is an AWESOME thing. We will have 3 more
babies dedicated to the Lord on Sunday morning November
9th. If you would like to dedicate your baby to the Lord, see
Bro. Doug ASAP.
The annual church picnic was a huge success. Great
crowd, great food and great weather. The best part was that
there were so many willing to help set-up and take down
and clean. That sure makes it easier for everyone. Thanks
Our kitchen committee blew it out of the water again
hosting the association annual meeting meal on Tuesday
September 16th. They did a great job and our associational
churches brought some wonderful food for our potluck
A huge thanks goes to Michael Santschi and Peggy
Boyd for going out in the community and visiting and
leaving flyers inviting people to church. Michael recently
went again by himself but says he is willing to go any time,
so get with him if you are interested in helping to get word
to the community that God loves them and so does FBC.
Soul Winning Sunday...October 5th. I really want to
encourage you to be present on Sunday Oct. 5th at 10:30. I
will be presenting to you a stragety to win many people to
the Lord. I am calling it our 2x2 program. You will be asked
to, before you go to be with the Lord in death, commit to
seeing 2 people accept Jesus because of your help and
witness. You will also commit to see that these two people
get discipled by you or with someone’s help. Then you will
mentor those two people to help win 2 people to the Lord
and help disciple them. Sounds like something we could do
to me!!!
Revival starts with you and me...let’s get out of the way
of the Holy Spirit this year and let’s see fire come down
from heaven and ignite FBC Caruthersville.

                                                                           Bro. Doug

Extreme Arts
We are just a little more than a month away from our
joint project with Kinfolks Ridge Baptist Church, known a
1 Voice! We are presenting the classic Steven V. Taylor
musical, “People Need the Lord” on November 9th at 6:00
pm at Kinfolks Ridge and November 16th at 5:00 pm here
at FBC. That means that this month will be filled with
rehearsals! Our next combined rehearsal will be this
Sunday! We will need to leave our church at 3:30 pm to go
to Kinfolks Ridge. We will rehearse from 4 -4:45 for that
project, then head back to the church to plan out our
projects for October 26th ‘s combined service. Here is the
rehearsal schedule for October and into November:
10/19 - FBC 4 - 4:45 pm
10/26 - KRBC 4 - 4:45 pm
11/8 - Full Dress Rehearsal - KRBC 4 - 7:00 pm
11/9 - Presentation - KRBC - 6:00 pm
(you need to be there at 4)
11/15 - Full Dress Rehearsal - FBC 4 - 7:00 pm
11/16 - Presentation - FBC 5 pm
(you need to be here at 3 pm)
11/22 - Wrap Party Potluck - FBC 5 - 7 pm
On every KRBC date that says 4:00 pm, we will need
to leave the church at 3:30 pm to get there in plenty of
time. On November 8th and 15th, I will provide supper for
everyone. Our wrap party on 11/22 will be potluck, so be
thinking about what you will bring! Please go over this
with your parents. I will give everyone a calendar with all
these dates and times at our rehearsal on 9/28 to help you
remember. It’s getting close, folks! Hope you’re going
over your lines and solos.

  Common Ground
     FBC’s Praise and Worship Team
Make sure to come to the Sunday morning praise
and worship service, every Sunday morning at 9:00
am in the Memorial Chapel.  We are playing a wide
variety of music, from contemporary praise and
worship to southern gospel to some favorite old
standards! We did not have a combined service this
month, due to the church picnic, but I had a wonderful
time of fellowship with all of you who were there! In
October, we will not have the combined, which shall
now be known as “Creative Worship Service”, on the
third Sunday of October because of Revival. We will
however have that service on the last Sunday of
October during the evening worship. As I’ve already
mentioned to the members of Common Ground, we
will not be playing at that service. I will still be leading
us in worship, but it will be a little different. I hope you
will all be there for that service. The last thing is that
Common Ground will only rehearse one Saturday per
month from October through January, as we are
already approaching the Holiday seasons. Hard to
believe that we are already in the final quarter of
2014. Anyway, I hope to see you all at our 9 am
service this Sunday!!
                          FBC Sanctuary Choir
       Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm
We have begun working on our Christmas
program, which I think (I hope) you will all enjoy! This
year we will be doing a more intimate celebration of
Christmas as a gift to our church family. Instead of a
big cantata or musical in the sanctuary, we will be
having a Christmas dinner in the fellowship hall with
music, games, fun and memories. The program is
called, “Memories of Christmas Past”, and will feature
a mini-cantata by the choir, as well as solos, duets
and a lot of surprises. Margaret Nash and Chris Riggs
are already racking their brains over how we will
decorate the fellowship hall. I can’t wait!! We are also
working on some great songs to present as special
music over the next few months. If you would like to
be a part of all the wonderful things coming up, we
can definitely use you! Come praise the Lord with us!!

Special Music:
If you would like to be put on the calendar to
sing a special in our morning service, please get with
me, so I can put you in the rotation. We have a lot of
talent in our church and I hope you will share it with

observance of 9-11. The church has 100 Samaritan

100 boxes. A soup lunch fund raiser for Lottie Moon
will be held after morning worship on October 26th .

great things planned for this class. Have your children
and grandchildren come and learn about Jesus.

Huge Accomplishment:
Sandra Hooker has completed 46 years of faithful

First Baptist Church Family,
I just want to tell you how much I appreciate your
caring thoughts and mostly for your prayers. Each time I
entered the treatment room I took my family and my
church with me. I have missed seeing you all and have
missed playing the piano and organ. I have been blessed
to have a wonderful family, they could not have been any
more supportive. Rick has been my rock and I have
leaned on him everyday. They have taken me under their
wings and I appreciate them more than words could say.
Thank you to Dr. Fitzwater for his kind words of
support and hope, just what I was looking for. To Pam,
Donnie, Christy and Bill, thank you for all the meals for
my family, they were all delicious and a big help. Thank
you for all you have done.
I will be entering another phase of treatment after a few
more weeks of rest. I ask you to please continue praying
for my family and I as we go thru this journey. Thank
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.” Psalm  18:2
