A Word From Your Pastor:

October is here ! Cooler weather, revivals, fairs, lots of fun stuff to look forward to. I pray all of us here at FBC have a great fall season. Halloween is soon approaching and I’m curious how we can get Jesus into this holiday. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Our new children’s director has begun her new adventure in leading our children’s department. I believe Kathryn will do a fabulous work for the Lord and I believe her team will grow the children’s department by leaps and bounds this coming church year. I challenged the church before Kathryn accepted this position to have 100 kids in church within a year. I believe this is very doable. Kathryn has a great team of ladies that will transform our children’s ministry for the future and I am very excited about what is going to happen this coming year and the years to follow.

Pray, pray, pray for REVIVAL in Caruthersville. Our town has suffered many blows in the past but the key is that JESUS is still here wanting us to minister to this community in a variety of ways. Please be praying how YOU can join in to build God’s Kingdom right here in Caruthersville. Also, PRAY for Pam as she prepares for her Amazon Adventure this month. Pray for her safety and ability to share JESUS to those people down south (Way, way down south).

Enjoy the weather as it changes and I pray that our Lord and Savior will bless you this fall season. Till next month Serve Jesus as He Serves You.

In Christ,

Pastor Jimmy

Women On Mission:

Greetings from WOM. We had a good meeting last week with several dedicated ladies in attendance. Several items were discussed about upcoming events. As of right now, we don’t have enough items to hold a Merry Mart as we usually do on Christmas Parade Day. Unless we get enough to have one, we will keep what we do have and hopefully put more with it next year. This project we do to help with the Lottie Moon offering. I do hope you are preparing your Samaritan Purse boxes, so that you won’t be scrambling around in November to get them ready. Also, remember Easter baskets for foster children. If you see anything on clearance that could be used, pick up a few items. It surely helps when preparing the baskets.

My mission trip is fast approaching and as usual the devil is on my heels. So many things being thrown at me to try and get me discouraged. But, it’s nothing new and God is still on the throne and nothing takes Him by surprise. I do ask that you would pray for the Mission team, for our spiritual preparation and for flexibility of mission team, health, safety and travel, wisdom and most important, for the Spirit to open blinded eyes and that unbelievers would see Christ in all of His glory and for the churches and IMB missionaries we will be working with. It is with the most humble appreciation that I say THANK YOU for the most generous offering of $1,400 that will go towards the medicine and food that the team must have in order to do the Medical, Evangelism and Children’s Ministry. What a blessing you are and blessed you will be for your contributions. Let your light shine for Jesus.

In His Service,
Pam & Christy

Extreme Arts

In the early part of 2018, we’ll be doing a musical production of the movie, "A Distant Thunder". This musical takes place in an old church that has been renovated into a prison for believers a few years after the rapture of the church. Auditions are over and the cast has been selected. Now we just have to put it all together. Right now, I’m looking at dates in late February or early March for the production.

We are also geting ready for our annual retreat/workshop, which will be November 3rd through the 5th. Instead of going out of town for this one, we will be doing a kind of D Now format. The students will arrive at the church on November 3rd at 6 -pm with their luggage and supplies. Later, they will be going to a host’s home for the weekend. The girls will go to the parsonage and the guys will go to Bill and Christy Mercer’s home. After church Sunday morning, everyone will return to their own homes and we will have a celebration service that Sunday night at 6 pm. The students will be learning the finer points of drama, music, and ministry in various workshops and activities. They will also be going through a discipleship course and our theme for the weekend is, "DRIVEN". In that course, we will be going through Jesus’ sermon on the mount as found in the book of Matthew chapters 5 - 7. This will be a loaded weekend, but I believe be very beneficial to our group in their work with Extreme Arts and their personal walk with Christ. We are looking for a few volunteers to help with meals and activities. If you would be willing to help, please contact me, Connor Barksdale, or Kristy Riggs.

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

Our Tuesday night class going strong. We are still in Genesis and will be moving into Exodus shortly. After that, we will approach the remaining books of the Pentateuch, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, at the same time in kind of topical study format. Come and join us as we study God’s word together.

FBC Worship Choir

For Christmas this year, we will be doing a joint production with the choir from North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville. We will be doing the musical, "The Christmas Shoes", based on the song and movie of the same name. It will feature some of your all-time favorite Christmas songs along with a few new songs by the group Newsong. The cast is set and we are working on production and sets for the musical. We could still use some help with the set and a few other areas. If you are willing to help with some of this, please let me know.

The presentation will be a two night event. The first production will be on Thursday, December 7th at North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville, AR at 6:00 pm. The last night will be at our church on Friday, December 8th at 6:00 pm. These are free events, and I hope you will come and attend both nights if possible. Bring the whole family! I am very excited about this and hope it will be a blessing to our two communities.

Singing His Praises,
Phil

Youth News:

Happy fall everyone! We are just getting geared up with our Armor of God bible study. This is a six week study, but it’s going to take us longer than that.

We’ve been approached by the Caruthersville Nursing Home to help raise money for IPads and other materials to help with stimulation with the residents. We have to finalize exactly what we are going to do, so I will be able to bring that before the church soon. This is gonna be a wonderful opportunity to help do something for the residents.

We will have a booth at the chili cook-off and we will need donations of baked goods. We may be skipping judgement house this year due to Minor Baptist taking a year off. I am still looking around for other churches that have judgement house but have been unsuccessful.

We are going to try to take a group to Field of Faith in Poplar Bluff on October 4th. This event starts at 7 so if we have enough available to go we will be leaving the church at 5.

Please continue to pray for us during all of our upcoming activities.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs
