Notes From Bro. Doug:

You will notice there will be some out dated materials in this newsletter. It is due to my article being late due to my illness.

I certainly want to thank everyone for your prayers. I was in bed from March 24th -27th, then I felt better on the 28th and preached on the 29th, but after choir practice that night it hit me again and on Monday the 30th, Dr. Doug sent to the ER. I was admitted that evening and was in the hopital until Saturday April 4th. It has certainly been an ordeal, but I am on the mend. I still have a stent and stones in me but they will be removed soon. The most comforting part was knowing that on the BIGGEST day of the year, and knowing I couldn’t be there, yet everything was covered by staff and layperson and Easter Sunday was one of the best ones we’ve had in a long time. It was very peaceful knowing all was well at FBC on Easter Sunday. Thanks to all who went out of their way to fill in and to minister.

BIG NEWS: Revival April 19th - 22nd, with Bro. Joe Wright who is the Director of Missions of the Dyer County Baptist Association in Dyersburg, TN. A complete schedule of the revival is listed in this newsletter. PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING EVERY SERVICE.

If you are interested in getting some Sunday School Training, the church van will be leaving at 5:30 pm on Thursday April 23rd for the SEMO/Black River Association Training at Ely BC in Kennett. Everyone and teachers are encouraged to attend.

Extreme Arts

FBC Youth Fine Arts Team

Extreme Arts will present the musical, "Live It to the Max!" on Sunday, April 26th at 6:00 pm. We will be having some special rehearsals to prepare for this in the coming weeks. On Easter Sunday afternoon we will be having a special 2 hour rehearsal just to focus on dialogue and solos. Rehearsal will begin at 4:00 pm that day, so please make sure you are there for that. Also, on April 17th, we will be having a lock-in here at the church which will start at 7:00 pm that night a go to Saturday morning at 7:00 am. We will have lots of games, food and fun and will also work on our set, props, choreography, etc. you can bring a friend with you for this. I also need a few adult volunteers to help out. You can work in shifts, if that will make it easier for you. Just get with me for details. I am excited about our Summer project this year as well. We will be doing a presentation called, "Let’s Go to the Rock!" which we will present September 25th and 26th as a dinner theater fundraiser. This fundraiser is for our music department and will also feature members of the adult choir.

This year’s annual Kevin McCoy Memorial Workshop will be a little different. It will be exclusively to help prepare for that dinner theater and will take place over a special weekend retreat to Reelfoot. A huge thanks to Mrs. Jean for allowing us to use her cabin for that weekend. I promise we will clean up after ourselves and treat your cabin as if it is our own homes. More details on all that in the coming months.

Finally, this year Extreme Arts will also be featured in the Adult Choir’s Christmas musical, "The Christmas Shoes". This will be the first year that we have done a Christmas musical with the youth and I am very excited to see how that all turns out. We still have lots of room for more youth (7th grade - college) that would like to be a part of all this exciting stuff coming up. God gave you talent for a reason and that is to use it for His glory. I hope you will put your talents to use with us! See you Sunday at 4:00

Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm

Easter has past!! It came quick this year! On Sunday morning, April 5th, we presented the mini-musical, "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power" as an incorporated part of our morning worship service. I was very excited the choir did an awesome job! Our choir has grown a bit, not only with new members but also with returning members who have not been able to be active with us for quite a while. It fills my heart to look up and see so many smiling faces who are using the talents God gave them for His glory! Thanks so much, Chris Peeler, for agreeing to help with sound for that service and rehearsal. Once we are done with this project we will begin working on our Summer project, "Bind Us Together". I hope you will continue to be a part of the choir for that and I hope many more will join us for that special presentation. I will be approaching some of you about this but don’t wait for that. I realize that Summer is a tough season because of vacations, camps, etc, but I hope you will still make some time for us. We will also be doing a major production for Christmas this year. It is a musical based on the song, "The Christmas Shoes" which is performed by the group, Newsong. I am very excited for this year and I hope you will do your best to be a part of all that is going on! Singing His Praises Phil

Youth News:

Wow this year is flying by again!! We have been busy with our Youth group this month and have had a lot of fun.

On the 11th we met Jon & Angie Constant along with Hope Bynum at Little Pizza Heaven for a surprise birthday party for Carson and Adrienne Duncan. We had a great turnout for the party and had a very good time. Thanks to the Constants and Hope for the party, the kids had a blast.

On Saturday March 14th we put out crosses across town and surrounding areas. They LOOK great. We have again had several positive comments & additional requests. If your cross broke or you did not get one and was suppose to, please let me know. We had issues with some crosses and had to repair several. I assure you it was an oversight and not intentional. There are so many to keep up with. Thanks for your support.

On Sunday March 15th we hosted a dinner in the fellowship hall and all proceeds went to our yearly Annie Armstrong Missions offering. I was told we raised right at $500.00, WOW that’s great and we hope you all had a good time. We try to do missions work right here at home.

On March 21st we had our Senior Adult banquet WITHOUT snow!! We had a great turnout and we were happy to see all that came. We delivered around 25 to go plates that evening to our shut-in church members and others that were thought of and who were very glad to get a plate and a short visit. Well we almost had to call security (just joking) LOL but we had a very fun night. The games & decorations provided by Mrs. Nash were great & we can’t thank her enough for the time and effort she puts into this to make things look nice. The big winners were Mike McGraw and Marilyn Strawn. Both had the chance to make the big deal and switch what they had won. Neither wanted to switch so we picked another ticket and Charlie Jones ended up with the big door prize at door # 3. Charlie had to have help getting it all to his truck. Marilyn & Ray donated a rose bush they won to R.T. & Polly Lunceford in honor of their anniversary. It was a very nice yellow rose bush. R.T. is waiting until it gets dry to have Marilyn come plant it! LOL! I don’t know who all won movie tickets but if you all go together the group will need a chaperone!!

On March 22nd it was WINTER JAM time. We left around 12:30 after church. We invited Kinfolks Ridge to go with us and we took our new and old van. It was a blast. The people in Blytheville at McDonald’s are still not over our visit. All I can say is that overall they did ok but if you bring more than 3 or 4 kids with you they FREAK out!! We made it and were on our way. Once at the Fed X Forum we finally found our entrance and stood in the rain for 30 minutes. When we finally all got inside we had 6 tickets left. Front row seats again and the entertainment was excellent. I asked to go out and find 6 people we could surprise with the early entry tickets. Security allowed me to go find some folks so the search began. I scanned the crowd and asked a couple of people how many were in their groups and it was too many. I finally noticed a senior adult standing with a crowd. I asked them how many was in their group and the younger lady said 6..ok that was the magic number. I asked if the senior adult was with them and they said yes. I told them I had tickets and was going to bring them inside early. They were excited to say the least. I told them the tickets were compliments of First Baptist Church of Caruthersville, MO. But it doesn’t end there...one of the six was too young and did not have to buy a ticket, so now I’m left with one ticket. I go out again and I see a man in a wheel chair soaking wet, I approach him and he was worried about the guy pushing him. I talked to security and got them both in, no problems. Again I told the man the ticket was from First Baptist. At the end of the concert I ran into the man in the wheel chair, he shook my hand and told me how much it meant to him and that we were a blessing from God to him on that day. We made it back with some upset we didn’t stop to eat, it took 30 minutes or so to get the vans out of the parking area and then I had one get sick and had to stop. So not stopping helped us get back at least an hour earlier but it was still 2:45 am by the time I sat down on the side of my bed.

We have been working on our Sunday School workbooks & just taking care of youth business and issues that the group is going through at the time. God is the focus and common denominator in our sole purpose. We will continue to teach your children about God and the Baptist ways and beliefs.

One other note, if your child is going to church camp this summer, I need to know by April 1st and I will need the $150.00 by April 15th, 2015. If you’re going to need a sponsor, see me. It will be a private conversation. We have a very supportive church family especially when it comes to things like church camp.

Thanks for all your prayers and support!

In Christ’s Love

Chris & Kristy,

Youth pastor

Dear Church Family,

Words just can’t tell you how much your prayers mean to me and my family. In the beginning, there were a few days where I couldn’t pray but I know that so many were carrying me with their prayers. This has been the hardest road I have been on but I know He’s holding my hand. I am touched by your kind words, cards, food and prayers. Please continue praying for my family and myself.

Sincerely,
Renee Young
