October, 2016

Bro. Don Says:

Thanks for inviting me to serve as your Pulpit Supply Minister as you search for your next Pastor. This is a critical time in the life of a church, as there is a certain amount of confusion & sometimes frustration. We can Preach the Word, Pray, Allow God to work & use this time to Draw Nigh to God. The Scripture tells us to, Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (James 4:8). I will do my part, and if you will do your part, we will have a Great Time.

We will be having a Revival around the middle of the month of October, so I will be encouraging YOU to open the Door as we are given a great opportunity. JESUS said, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelations 3:20). That scripture says that You don’t have to wait on anyone else to get Revived, because JESUS said that "if any man, (person), hear my voice, and open the door." He will come in.

GOD loves YOU,

Bro. Don Layman

FBC Worship Choir

The choir is working on our Christmas musical, "He Is Here", which will be presented during our morning worship service, on December 18th We could use your help! If you would like to be a part of our Christmas presentation, please come to the next choir rehearsal, which is every Wednesday night after church. I have plenty of practice CD’s and books available. Please continue to pray for our choir and our church, and pray as to whether God wants you to be a part of this wonderful ministry. Remember: God gave you a talent for a reason, and this is to use it for His glory!

Singing His Praises,

Extreme Arts & FBC Worship Choir:

We are back from our 2016 retreat/workshop and I would like to thank everyone who helped with this year’s event. Thanks, first of all, to Theresa Jean for allowing us to use her cabin at Reelfoot. We appreciate you so much! Also thanks to Chris & Angie Peeler who fed us on Friday night and did campfire stuff with us. Thanks to Chris Riggs for being our Saturday Chef and preparing such awesome subs for lunch and chili for supper. Thanks to Pam Bullington for her photography skills. A big thanks to our team captains, Kristy Riggs and Connor Barksdale, your hard work and dedication are so much appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who donated snacks, they were so good. Thanks to all the parents/guardians who allowed your students to go on this retreat. Thanks for all your support. Also thanks to our church family for allowing us to have this group, and for allowing us to be a vital ministry here.

If you haven’t heard yet, we are going to present, Charles Shultz’s "A Charlie Brown Christmas"! It is my hope that this will be a fun and encouraging evening for us all as we remember the true meaning of Christmas through the eyes of the Peanuts Gang. Be sure to bring your children and grandchildren to this special night, which will be December 18th at 6:00 PM.

Love Ya’ll

Phil

Youth News:

Happy fall y’all! We have had two more 5th quarters this month. On Sept. 2nd, we had a wonderful speaker, Tony Capitino, he’s a powerful speaker. On Sept. 23rd, we had the band, Ascension, which our very own, Bro. Phil Barksdale is a part of. This was a wonderful night, the kids had a really good time listening and singing. Bro. Jim Clark brought our message, as always, a huge thank you to the youth committee for all their work on these nights. This is a wonderful outreach program to teens who might not have a church home, but it also gives them something to do after the home games & helps keep them off the streets.

Upcoming dates - Oct. 8th, we will travel to Jonathan Creek, KY, where we go to camp and we will attend a Harvest Festival. There will be many activities that day and it’s all free except for the $5 cost for the supper they serve. So the youth need to bring spending money, we will have breakfast at church then leave at 9:30 and we will return around 10:30 pm. I will make sure everyone gets home.

Oct. 15th, we will have a booth at the Chili cook-off, we are asking for delicious donations for our bake sale that day.

Oct. 22nd, as of now, there will be a youth rally planned by all the youth leaders in the community. This will be in Pascola. Unfortunately, I don’t have times yet, but we plan to attend.

We will have a bonfire and Hayride on Oct. 26th.

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers as we go forward with these upcoming activities.

Also, thank you to the church, youth committee, and the kids for their support during the passing of both my parents. Thank you for the wonderful meal for our mother’s funeral, thanks for the all the support, calls, & the text messages, during the passing of both of my parents. It means a lot to us

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs
