Notes From Bro. Doug:

MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND THE CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE AT 5:00 P.M.

What a great year at FBC. God has blessed far greater than we all deserve. We have gained some members and sadly we have lost some beloved members, but we rejoice as they have received their promise of heaven and are in the arms of Jesus.

Peggy and I want to thank you all for the Christmas gifts and cards. We get a double dose back to back with pastor appreciation in October and Christmas in December. You all are such generous people and we really do appreciate your love and support.

This last Sunday the children did a wonderful job and we thank Morgan and Vaughn for their great work with our kids. We also thank the kids for their willingness to minister through music. You over-did yourself on the snack fellowship for the kids..there was tons of great food and everyone enjoyed the fellowship, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

At the writing of this article, the sanctuary choir has not performed their evening program yet, but I am sure it will be great and we thank the choir and Bro. Phillip for all his hard work throughout the year.

The 1st annual Christmas party at Elizabeth Hardesty’s was a huge success. She made some of the best chili I have eaten in awhile. We had a good crowd even with rain and cold weather. The youth were going to take care of the kids at the church but it ended up being no youth (except Tatum Riggs), but Chris and Kristy Riggs took care of that ministry and it really did help and allowed the adults to have a fun time.

We will begin our January Bible study on Sunday night January 5th at 5:00 pm. We will be doing our study called: "Christ Is All You Need" and we will be studying the book of Colossians. We will be doing this study on Sunday and Wednesday nights until we complete the study.

I thank you for how well you support missions. FBC has been recognized at being in the top 2% per capita of the 45,000 Southern Baptist Churches in the US giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Mission offering. We give a huge thanks to our Women on Mission for their leadership and for their vision for missions.

Our youth group along with 3 other youth groups sorted and sacked up over 250 bags of groceries for our Caruthersville Ministerial Alliance Christmas basket program. It will help many families during the Christmas season.

I want to thank Bro. Singleton for filling in for me on December 29th while my family and I are on vacation.

I am excited about the potential for the year of 2014. Make plans now to make it the best Jesus filled year of your life.

Bro. Doug

No services on December 25th or January 1st, 2014

Pastor’s New and Revised Marriage Policy for 2014

The couple must be active Christian members of this church or former/recently active members of this church. The definition of active will be determined by the pastor. The definition of being a Christian will be determined by God’s Word. Non-members will be decided through an interview process with the pastor. There will be a mandatory 6 sessions of pre-martial counseling, failure to complete these sessions will postpone or cancel the pastor’s participation.

Through an interview process, the pastor will consider marrying the couple where one or the other has been married once before, however 2 or more times of failed marriage will not be considered by this pastor anymore. It is not a judgmental issue, it is a spiritual marriage covenant issue. The church facilities usage polices will remain the same and can be picked up at the church office.

Women On Mission News:

Merry Christmas from the Women on Mission! As we reflect on the past year, we have been so blessed with great events, lots of fun, and working to further God's Kingdom here on earth through missions. We are nearing the end of the Lottie Moon Christmas offering season, with just 2 more weeks to donate. Please prayerfully consider your donation and do what the Lord leads. We are very close to our $ 10,000 goal. The red votive candles ($ 25 each) are a great way to donate and remember or honor someone this Christmas season. The candles will be beautiful for our Christmas eve service. Also, continue to pray for our missionaries all over the world. Many are away from their families, so we pray for a blessed, safe Christmas for all of them. We will continue with our Bible Study, "Lineage of Grace" at our next meeting which will be Monday, January 13, at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall. The year has gone quickly, and time moves on. Remember that Jesus is the TRUE meaning of the Christmas season.

Love,
Christy, Pam and Peggy

Don't forget the birthday offering for the Missouri Baptist Children's home! All proceeds will be sent to the MBCH in December to help with Christmas. It's strictly voluntary, and once a year to donate so please participate if you can! if you give $1 per year of your age you get a mug, if you give coins per year you get a pencil. There is a world bank at the pulpit area where you can put your donation.

Thank you from your Staff at FBC

The staff at First Baptist want to thank you for the Christmas bonus that you gave us and we want to wish you ALL a Merry Christmas and a Happy Jesus Filled New Year!!

Christmas Decorations

We want to thank Barbara Pullam for heading up the decorating of the sanctuary this year and we thank Margaret Nash for heading up the decorations in the fellowship hall. We also want to thank the families who volunteered to light the Advent candles this year.

FBC Sanctuary Choir
Sunday Nights at 7pm

DECEMBER 22nd !! The Sanctuary Choir will present "A Smoky Mountain Christmas: The Gift" . It is full of your favorite carols and a few newer songs all arranged in a "smoky mountain" style! Even if you didn’t grow up in the Smoky Mountains, this should still bring back some great memories of going to Grandma’s house for Christmas. You can relive your childhood memories of stringing popcorn, listening to carolers and Christmas get-together with family and friends. After the musical, be sure to stick around for a wonderful Christmas party. It will include fun games, delicious holiday treats, music and prizes! You do not want to miss this awesome night of music, fun, food and fellowship!! Come join us and bring the whole family!! It has been a great honor to be able to direct this choir! You are amazing people with such wonderful hearts for God and others. You have blessed me so much this year in so many ways and I want to thank each one of you. Thanks for the card and the check of course, but most of all thank you for being such a loving family. I love you all so much and am so grateful for each one of you! I am looking forward to another great year, leading you in His praises!

Phil

Music Notes:

Well, it’s time to wrap up another year! I can’t believe 2013 is already over. This has been a tough year with a lot of loss and grief, but I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful, loving church family like we have here! I think in a lot of areas we have grown closer and stronger as a family. The Bible says that God works out all things for the good of those who love Him. I really believe that to be true! I want to say thank you so much to all the people, most who have chosen to remain anonymous, who have given me cards and letters of encouragement and gifts to help me out. I don’t know how I could have made it through some things without you! I hear people say that they don’t need to go to church to be a Christian. While that may be true, the Bible still says that we should not stay away from "our meeting, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other and all the more as you see the day drawing near" (Hebrews 10:25 HCSB). I just don’t see why anyone would not want to be a part of a family of people who constantly encourage you, pray for you and come to your aid when you are down. Through all the ups and downs of this past year, I am glad that I had all of you to go through them with me. I am looking forward to a great year with an awesome church family. I love you all so much!!

Soli Deo Gloria,
Phil

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

The Children’’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team did an EXCELLENT job Sunday evening, December 15, at 5:00 p.m., performing ""The Hope of Christmas."" As I said before, we have been blessed with a very young choir of little ANGELS this year. I know we are not supposed to be prideful, but I am VERY proud of these young, talented kiddos! We received so many compliments. I know they are amusing and the dance number was very entertaining. However, I think the BEST compliment I heard was how well-behaved they were! (So glad they can be when they have to be……)

It was a blessing to be able to present the Gospel in song and narration to our friends and family. I am very thankful for all the parents, grandparents, and others that made sure the children were at practice. I am also proud of those children who have to come on their own. I appreciate those who came out to watch them perform, as well as those that brought snacks and helped serve at the fellowship afterwards. I also appreciate those who have prayed for us, brought snacks to rehearsals, uplifted me when I felt a little down, etc. I know I will leave someone out, and I hate doing that. I am very thankful for my family helping out. Dylan is very faithful in being there running the sound system for me, as well as Kelsey. Vaughn is always there helping me with the kids and just doing whatever needs to be done--such as reassuring me everything is going to be okay and reminding me to breathe. It is also a blessing that Phil is right there to make sure we have everything we need such as microphones and batteries! We will be having our cast party in the next few weeks for those who participated in the program. It will be a hot chocolate bar with peppermint stirrers, chocolate covered marshmallow sticks, whipped cream; and it will be topped off with a cookie decorating party! Please continue to pray for our little ones as they continue to grow in the Lord and seek His way.

Praising Him,
Morgan & Vaughn

Youth Report:

Here we are again at the end of another year. Wow how time goes by so fast these days. We all found out a bit early this year that we might have a couple of cold spells, maybe some snow and ice? LOL

The youth will be finishing out the year with a Christmas party on Dec. 18th in the youth room. We will have games and swap gifts with each other, food & fun all in the name of Jesus. The youth will also be helping with passing out items at the Christmas Parade. At this time of year we always make sure the youth understand the real meaning of Christmas. I think the birth of our Savior has been overlooked and pushed to the wayside by many people. It is the material things that seem to take the precedents in today’s world and you can’t get away from the constant reminders on television, radio or anywhere you go, sale, sale, sale! Companies who have changed the words in their windows or on the sales flyer from Merry Christmas to Happy Holidays drives me crazy and is a slap in the face to all Christians. Changing the greeting because they "might" offend someone. This is America, founded by God fearing men. I wonder if our founding fathers were able to come back now and see the mess we are in, how they would respond? I don’t think it would be very good and I don’t think they would find an answer that would satisfy why we have let things get so bad.

Our hopes that are in the coming new year that our church continues to grow, that our congregation young and old will bring the lost people in their lives to church and help them find Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. For everyone to try a little harder to make the first contact or bring someone to church with them or even to one of our meals in the fellowship hall. We have a responsibility as God’s warriors here on this earth to bring the lost to love Jesus.

I am very happy with the growth we have seen this year in the youth group. We are very fortunate to have the support we do from our church family. You are always there for us whether it’s a fund raiser, coming to a play or singing or dealing with us eating the food out of the refrigerator the night before a Women on Mission meeting (sorry again) but it was good and the kids were hungry. LOL

We have so many things to be blessed for in our church. The newly elected deacons, along with the already serving deacons, Bro. Doug and Mrs. Peggy, a building that looks good and is kept in good shape for people to come and worship the Lord. I see lots of behind the scenes that take place at First Baptist. There are many things that people in our church do that does not happen on Sundays or Wednesdays. We need more help and we know if the Lord is leading you to step up and do more it will be a blessing not only to you but to the church and you will find favor with the Lord.

My hope for the new year is to have 30 in class every time that we meet and 125 in Sunday School each week. I would encourage parents & grandparents to bring the kids to Sunday School. They would love it. They can’t drive to church so someone either has to bring them or pick them up. You never know what might happen if they get 1 more hour of church each week. If we save just one, it has been worth every minute spent on teaching God’s word. I was guilty for many years of making excuses about why we did not go to church. For example: it’s too much to get the kids up, I work nights and I have to sleep, Sunday is my only day off and I want to go hunting or fishing, Sunday is the only day I can sleep late, I’m living good and I believe in God so I don’t have to go to church, there’s too much politics in church, I don’t want to be around a bunch of hypocrites, I can’t afford to buy clothes for church. Boy, was I wrong! God has blessed me and my family in so many ways I could not begin to tell them all. I have seen so many amazing things take place here at First Baptist Church. God is strong in our church and we are working hard to serve Him in the best ways possible. I realize what I was taking away from my kids. They have a choice to make, just like we do about their salvation and we should give them every opportunity to understand what it means and to feel the love from their church family.

We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We love all of you and can’t thank you enough for your support.

Youth Pastor,

Chris & Kristy Riggs
