JANUARY, 2016

Notes From Bro. Doug:

The staff at First Baptist church wants to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We also want to thank you for the annual Christmas Bonus we received, it is much appreciated.

We also have not reached our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, but you still gave very generously!!! Thank you and God will bless you for your generosity.

Anyone who came to the Christmas party at Elizabeth Hardesty’s house was blessed with great food, fellowship and fun. Thank you Elizabeth for doing this every year.

We want to thank Pam Peeler and Paige Gillock for Christmas decorating this year around the church. They do a wonderful job and I know God wants His house taken care of just as much or better than we take care of our own house. Jesus deserves to be exalted and praised for who He is!!

The music program and fellowship afterwards was a huge success. Thank you Phillip for leading us in this great event each year.

Don’t forget to come to the Christmas Eve Service this Thursday at 5:00 pm. You will enjoy the music and worship that Phillip has planned. And don’t forget to get your free 2016 calendar after the service.

We will not be having our brotherhood breakfast on the last Sunday of the month. But on that Sunday we will be having Bro. Ira Singleton preaching both services that day. Bro. Ira was pastor of FBC for over 14 years and was my pastor for years and my administrator when I was your full time youth and music leader.

God has been so good to us at FBC, so let’s all return His love and compassion by having the same love and compassion for each other and for others in 2016.

Bro. Doug

THANK YOU:

Peggy and I would like to thank you for the Christmas gifts that many of you gave us. It really brings a smile to our face knowing you love us and support us in the ministry. We have learned over the many years of service to God’s people, we can’t be all things to all people. But with what God has given us, we will continue to try to be faithful in service and love. Have a Merry Christmas and let’s look for a great year in 2016!!!!

Women On Mission:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year:

WOM met at the parsonage for our annual Christmas get together. A good time was had by all attending and we want to thank Peggy for opening her home for this event. The Merry Market and Chili dinner was a huge success. A big THANK YOU to all who helped with the Market and Dinner. It is a lot of work, but very well worth the effort that is put forth. When you are taking down your Christmas this year and you have anything you don’t want to use again next year, don’t pack it up, bring it to the church or call and I will pick it up for our next year’s Market. Remember to watch the Christmas clearance isle for things that can be used in the Samaritan Purse next year. Small baby dolls, lip gloss, and etc. are very good things to buy while on mark down. It’s never too early to start gathering items for your box and the boxes we put together as a church. We will not have WOM in January and will decided in February in plenty of time to get notice out. You still have a little more time to get your Lottie Moon offering in if you haven’t done so yet..Thank you to all who contributed to this most worthy, live saving, life changing fund. To each and every one, have a safe and Happy Holiday Season. The value of a life is always measured by how much of it is given away. What are you giving?

Pam, & Christy

FBC Worship Choir
First of all, I wanted to say how proud I am of our worship choir! You did a wonderful job with our Christmas cantata. I was really looking forward to the Christmas Shoes, but I am also glad that we were able to put together such a powerful program in such a short time. Thank you so much to Sara Riggs for stepping up to play our narrator. She only had one official practice with us, but did an awesome job!! Also, I wanted to thank Karla Hedge for organizing the kitchen for our after service fellowship. By the way, Karla, I still haven’t given up on getting you to join the choir!! HA HA! Thanks also to Dr. Doug Fitzwater, James Prater and Darnell Rodgers for helping with all the audio visual stuff. Another thank you to Erin Barksdale, Connor Barksdale and Lane King for helping me put up the set!

As I look back over 2015, I can see some really amazing things that we have done. After 3 years of serving as your director, I am finally getting an idea of what we do best! I am so happy to be serving you here at our church. I think the whole celebration service for Christmas is really a good thing. I think it is really something we can all look forward to every year. I also liked how we turned our Easter Cantata into an Easter morning worship service. This is something else that we can continue to do. I would still like to have a Summer project, but I will trust God to show us when and how to put that together.

I want to thank all of you who have been with me since the beginning for your faithfulness and dedication. I hope that hose of you who have joined us since then, will continue to be a part of our little family and those of you who have had to take a break will be back in rehearsals beginning Wednesday, January 6th. I’m eagerly anticipating God’s director for us this year and I hope you all have a wonderful New Year!!

Extreme Arts & FBC Worship Choir:

You all did a wonderful job hosting our Christmas after service fellowship. I never cease to be amazed at how I can give you a few ideas and you work together to take them to the next level. This year, I am hoping for some great things in our Creative Sunday services. We are currently on break, but will be back on Sunday, January 10th to begin rehearsals again. In next month’s newsletter, I will be laying our some plans for this year.

Looking back on 2015, I am amazed at some of the things we were able to do. We moved from being a youth choir to being an all-out fine arts team. That was an accomplishment in and of itself. I loved our retreat and hope to do that again this year. Theresa Jean has already told me that we can use her cabin again, and a big thank you to her for that! I have a few ideas to run by you, but will get more into that on the 10th. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year and I can’t wait to get started up again! Have a great break!

FBC Music Committee:

We will be meeting on Monday, January 18th to go over the calendar for the first half of 2016. We will meet at 7:00 pm in the fellowship hall. Please bring your calendars and plenty of ideas. I’m looking forward to another great year at FBC!

Youth News:

Merry Christmas everyone! We’ve had a very busy December as always. We started off the month helping with the Christmas parade. We handed out over 600 scarves that Mrs. Lou Franks made. We also got the Gospel in their hands as we passed out the brochures. Thank you to all who help with this ministry.

On December 12th, we went to the singing Christmas tree in Memphis, TN. This is always an awesome show, but this year was their 40th anniversary, so it was a really big show. It had a lot of their past cast come on stage for a sing-along.

On December 16th, we had our annual Christmas party, and lots of food and fellowship for two hours. We also exchanged gifts, then we face timed Carson Constant. All the kids had such a big smile on their face , especially since we found out that Carson is getting his Christmas miracle. This is definitely answered prayers.

On December 19th, we had a group go to Wal-Mart to wrap Christmas presents. Thank you to everyone that donated to this.

We started our study on the book of James. We had some awesome conversation with chapter 1. We will continue after Christmas.

Thank you for allowing me to walk with and by your kids. Please continue to pray for me as I do this, but also I have some things weighing heavy on me. God Bless,

Kristy and Chris Riggs

Dear Church Family,

We wanted to say thank you for the cards, calls, food and especially your prayers after my recent elbow surgery and Bill’s hand surgery. My recovery had taken a little longer than I anticipated, but I am feeling much better. God is good and we are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Christy & Bill Mercer

Dear Bro. Doug, First Baptist Church Family,

Wow! We are always amazed and blessed by all you do! We are so thankful for your continued support of the Shoe Box Ministry. Your 132 shoe boxes will shine such a bright light of the love of Jesus into the hearts, lives & families of the children in Mexico. You are truly the hands & feet of Jesus!

Please continue to pray for the children receiving your gift filled shoe boxes.
