June, 2012

Notes From Bro. Doug:

We had a great month of May at FBC . The senior day was sad & exciting with Emma Fitzwater graduating. We made over 200 casseroles for Peggy Boyd & Emma Fitzwater to go to India this summer. On Mother’s day we had a great crowd & each mother was honored & given a gift. We had a very special baby dedication as we dedicated Andrew Clay Cunningham to the Lord.

We enjoyed being a part of Alex & Whitney’s wedding. It was so awesome and beautiful.

The Harvest in May committee led us in a great day on May 20th, the service was great and the meal was outstanding. Mrs. Pat Ferrell led the kitchen crew to a huge victory!!! While the singing was very poorly attended the music was great. We raised about $4,000.00 toward our goal of $5,000.00.

A big thanks goes to Commander Frank Morgan and Fred Boyd for leading in our Memorial Day service on May 27th. Our children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. group led us in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and they did sign language as they pledged.

Our youth are paid up and ready to go to church camp in Kentucky on June 10th. Pray for their spiritual growth.

June is gonna be awesome...Join in!!!!

In Christ,

Bro. Doug

If you have any announcements to be on the Sunday morning power point, please have your information turned in by Thursday noon. Thanks!

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter.

Women On Mission:

The Women On Mission met Monday, May 21 with 10 amazing women! We will be having our June 11th meeting at the Caruthersville Nursing Center to visit with the residents. If you would like to join us, we will meet at the nursing center at 6:30 and spend about an hour with some special people!

The nursing center is also in need of some "prize" gifts for their activities, so if you have any XL clothes (men or women’s) old jewelry, diabetic socks, etc. please bring those to the fellowship hall and we will deliver them.

We all need to keep praying for Peggy and Emma as they prepare for their mission trip to India! Bro. Doug will be doing a commissioning service on Sunday evening, July 22. We plan to host an ice crea m social after the service and take donations for the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Our mission work is on-going and I hope everyone will be at this special service as we send two of our own to the mission field. The ice cream social will be a great way to fellowship and eat some delicious homemade ice cream! Dr. Doug Fitzwater makes the best homemade ice cream ever!

All ladies are invited to join us for our meetings and events as we strive to do God’s work in the mission fields both home and abroad.

Love in Christ,

Christy Mercer

Youth Report:

Congratulations to Emma Fitzwater for graduating at the top of her class, Valedictorian! WOW!! We are all very proud of Emma and wish her all of God’s Blessings in her future. She also was the recipient of the First Baptist J.F. Pat & Mary Belle Patterson Scholarship.

Well since we missed April’s report I’m going to combine the last two months into this report. The youth have been very active and we continue to grow.

Starting in April we began to have a monthly birthday party on the third Sunday night for those youth whose birthday falls in the current month. The first party we had in April we celebrated Jan., Feb., March birthdays so we could get caught up. We have had two parties so far and both have been a very fun time for all with great bonding between the youth.

The youth had a BBQ and bake and yard sale fundraiser at the church and it was very successful. Thanks to Bro. Doug, Josh Boyd and Dylan Treece for getting the BBQ ready for us and GOOD JOB to all the youth who participated by selling BBQ, bringing things for the yard sale and bake sale, also by helping get ready for the yard sale and helping clean up. It was a busy day but very successful and a special thanks to all the many church members and friends who supported the youth during this event. I think we raised somewhere around $1,300.00 on this day which covered the camp balance and now camp is completely paid up.

At this time it appears we have 16 going to camp. We will be sending three counselors to camp with the kids and the camp date is June 10th - June 15th, 2012. This camp is in Kentucky and is called Jonathan Creek. The kids always have a good spiritual time and we hope that the Lord touches these youth’s lives with the experience they will receive at camp. Kristy Riggs, Angie Constant, and Josh Boyd will be the counselors this year.

Since the last report we have performed a couple of times with the puppets and continue to practice with them on every other Sunday at 5:00 pm. We have some new material to use and look forward to the puppets putting on a show for everyone very soon.

The youth choir is doing a great job under the direction of Bro. Phillip Barksdale. They sang during the Harvest in May song fest and did an awesome job. They are working on a musical that will be presented in mid-September.

On a serious note, I want it known that all of God’s children are welcome here at First Baptist and I believe the entire congregation feels the same way. I do however believe that when you come to church GOD is the reason you are at church and you should be here to learn about GOD and His Word.

Without causing a bunch of problems I wanted to address some issues we have had during the Wednesday night meals and *Co

services. It is my understanding that the Pastor & Deacons have already met about the issue and I wanted to assure the members of this church that we are working on positive fixes for the issues we have been dealing with. We don’t want you to NOT come to church because the children who have behavior problems. We are working on the problem in a Christ-like manner.

We have set down reasonable rules that must be followed or those causing problems will not be allowed to return. You should see vast improvement in the situation. We are looking for people who want to help with the problems, so if you have any positive ideas or suggestions to help with the matter, please contact any of the youth committee or call Bro. Doug.

Our Pasta sales went well and we raised approximately $500.00 profit for this sale. Thank you to those who supported this fundraiser.

We are looking forward to a trip we have planned to SIX FLAGS in St. Louis in July. The Christian band "Third Day" will be there and the tickets each youth is purchasing gives them admission to the park, all you can eat for two hours and admission to the concert. Pray for your youth leaders as they try to keep up with the youth and their schedules.

This past Sunday we loaded up the van and went to McDonald’s in Hayti. Let me just say the dollar menu will never be the same! LOL

We have a very good, hardworking, responsible core youth group here at FBC and the continued support of the Pastor, Youth Committee, Deacons & members help to reinforce to these children & young adults that church is the place to be and to be here for the right reasons.

We play games, do skits, Jam for Jesus and have a good time but the main focus is to learn about GOD, learn about the walk Jesus took while on this earth and make it clear to all that the only way to HEAVEN is to know our Lord Jesus Christ and how important that step is in their spiritual life. This is done through Bible study, prayer and experimental learning and hopefully it leads them to getting right with GOD.

If we can lead just ONE to salvation, how great is that? Are you ready?

Continue to pray for our Youth and we will try to continue to lead our youth to do good things at First Baptist of Caruthersville.

God Bless until next month!

Chris & Kristy Riggs
