Notes From Bro. Doug:

We had some fantastic music going on at FBC in the month of April. The Children’’s Easter Program and the Sanctuary Choir Easter Program were fantastic. We had a lot of good music during our morning Easter service with over 180 present. Thanks to the brotherhood for the Easter morning pancake breakfast after the well attended SonRise service. We also had a good Baptist turnout for the Caruthersville Ministerial Alliance Good Friday service.

As of this writing the youth are preparing to present their musical called ""Room 77"".
Thanks goes to our Women on Mission for making over 120 Easter Baskets for area foster children. The Annie Armstrong Easter offering is $2467.45 and our goal is $3000. You will have one more chance to give
during the youth musical on Sunday night April 27th.
May is gearing up to be big month too. We will be honoring High School graduates on Sunday the 4th . Also that day there is a wedding shower for Jory and Janelle Neff at 2:00pm and friends and family invite all to come.
Mother’s Day is May 11th and we will be having a baby/child dedication that day as well. So if you want to dedicate your baby or child to the Lord, see Bro. Doug ASAP.
May 18th is our annual Memorial Harvest in May Day. We are asking everyone to dress up in "Old Fashioned" clothing. We will have a potluck lunch at noon. The church will provide the meat and bread and drinks, you bring the sides, salads and desserts. After the meal we will have an "Old Fashioned" singing in the sanctuary. We take up a
special offering that day for three areas in our budget, Spiritual Development, Vacation Bible School, Roof Fund and the goal is $3000.00. We will not have the evening services on May 18th .
The Southeast Missouri Baptist Assoc. semi-annual meeting is on May 19th at Oak Grove BC and begins at 7:00pm.
Pray for our youth group as they get ready to go to camp this summer. The dates for camp are June 8th -13th .
Be praying for our Vacation Bible School which is June16th -20th with the commencement festivities being on June 22nd .

WOMEN ON MISSION:

WOM assembled over 120 Easter baskets at their regular meeting in April. The baskets were distributed to the foster children in Pemiscot County. Many thanks to all those that donated items to fill the baskets as well as the volunteers that helped put them together.

Devotionals are held every Tuesday morning at the Caruthersville Nursing Home at 10:00 am. A great time of singing, devotionals and visiting; come join in and receive a blessing.

The next WOM meeting will be held on Monday, May 12th in the church dining room and the story of Ruth will be discussed in the book "A Lineage of Grace".

No meetings will be held in June and July and will resume in August making plans for several fund raisers.

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for all your support to the Nieves family. To those who have given to the fund and brought food and supplies we appreciated your thoughtfulness. God put this family in our lives when their mother was a little girl. I know without a doubt it was because of what has happened now. God had a plan. Thank you to Christy, Bill Mercer and to Kristy & Chris Riggs, you have been a huge help. Pam, Chris & Angie, Paul & Jessica your love, caring and devotion is truly amazing. Please continue to pray for Kassandra, Destiny, Maria, Miranda, Juan, Amiya and us as we help these children. Juan loved his family and would be so appreciative for all you’ve done.

2 Extreme Arts

2 Extreme presents "Room 77" on April 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. This musical features the songs of Wayne Watson! It is sure to challenge and inspire you to a deeper walk with Christ. A mysterious ad in the high school paper encouraging students who would just "like to talk to someone" to come to Room 77. This is an exciting musical about friendship evangelism. We will be taking a love offering that night with all proceeds going to the Annie Armstrong Easter offering. Be sure to come and bring your family and friends for a night of great music and ministry.

I love ya’ll!
Phil

Special Music:

FBC Sanctuary Choir
Sunday nights @ 7:00 pm

On Palm Sunday evening the choir presented "The Miracle of Easter"! We worked very hard to put that together and I think it went very well. I know that God moved that night and a lot of seeds were planted for the Kingdom of God. We will be having a wrap party after church on Sunday May 4th. After that we will begin working on a musical that we will present with the North 10th Street Baptist Church choir from Blytheville, AR. Jim Clark, who did the music for our Spring Revival, is the music director there. This is a big project that we are planning to present late in the Summer and I am very excited that Jim agreed to help with this. It’s a musical called, "Bind Us Together", and it is a very powerful drama. We will present this at our church and at Jim’s church in Blytheville. If you would like to help with this production, we can definitely use you! Our choir has grown quite a bit, but we can always use more people who are willing to praise the Lord with us in music and ministry.

Youth News:

April has flown by and it appears that Spring has sprung! April has been a busy month for us and a very rewarding month spiritually.

Let me first start out getting everyone up to date on the issue of Winter Jam 2014. As you well know we missed the concert in Memphis due to bad weather and we had already paid in advance for the tickets. There was not another location close enough for us to attend after this date. After several weeks of back and forth conversation, I received an email stating that we would be given credit for our $900.00 and we can pick any location we want to attend in 2015. I was not so sure at one point in time that this credit was going to happen but the folks at Winter Jam Tours finally did the right thing and we will be back in 2015.

The "Crosses for Christ" were a GREAT success this year. We put the crosses out on April 5th and it wasn’t long that folks that forgot or noticed crosses going up started calling ordering their crosses. This is a very good local mission opportunity we bring to our community. I have had so many compliments and encouraging words from people who love seeing the crosses all over town. I have had several tell me that the crosses in their yard actually help start a conversation with someone about Jesus Christ dying on the cross for us. I am so proud of everyone involved in this ministry.

April 19th we picked up almost all of the crosses (might have missed a couple) and moved them to our church yard. All I can say is WOW when standing back looking or driving by our church. It looked AMAZING and was all for the glory of GOD. People driving by especially out of town folks slowed and even stopped to look at the crosses. What did they think of when they stopped? JESUS, we hope.

I want to thank everyone who helped in any way with the crosses for their effort and support of our youth group. A special thanks to Pat Ferrell and Marilyn Strawn who kept up with the rental list and payments in the office and Marilyn Boyd for buying our lunch on pickup day. Can’t forget my baby brother, Adam Riggs for his construction skills when fixing the crosses that needed to be repaired and the use of his sledge hammers.

Our next fundraising effort will be on Saturday May 24th at FBC. We will cook boston butts whole and we will have our annual yard sale on that day as well. We will be selling chopped BBQ, BBQ sandwiches on the day of the event. Most of our sales will be pre-sold so we know what to buy and how much. Please support this fundraiser. We will be located in the parking lot on the south sided of the building by the church sign. The youth will have order forms soon. This is Memorial Day weekend. Let us cook for you and you can spend more time with your family and out of the heat. The meat will be delicious (as always), fresh and you won’t be disappointed. If you have anything you want to donate to the yard sale get with me so we can make arrangements for picking up the items or to have some idea what we will have for sale on that Saturday.

We went to McDonald’s in Hayti for our monthly Birthday celebration on Wednesday April 16th. We had fun and everyone enjoyed the field trip. Especially to some place to eat. If you’re having trouble with your teenager, FEED THEM it will help. Trust me!! LOL

We are also getting ready for church camp at Jonathan Creek, Kentucky. We will be leaving after church on Sunday June 8th, 2014 and will be back in the afternoon on Friday June 13th, 2014. We will have a meeting about camp sometime in May so everyone is on the same page. If your youth qualifies for camp they must have the $150.00 turned in by Friday May 23rd, 2014. Make checks to FBC Youth and put camp in the notes section. If you would like to sponsor a youth going to camp get with me. We do have needs. It costs the youth fund $350.00 each for camp. I said in last month’s newsletter that $175.00 was the youth’s part. It should have been $150.00.

If you have any work you need done around your house, etc. I have some youth that need to work in order to have spending money at camp. Get with me if you have anything for them to do and I will coordinated taking care of and making sure it gets done. 757-8801 or 359-4004 will get me.

Our Easter service was GREAT and to see the church almost full was a blessing. We will continue to do our best to help your youth through these troubling teenage years. Please continue to pray for us and we will stay focused on teaching your youth about GOD.

With God’s Love,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth pastor

Brother Doug & FBC Members,

I was fortunate to be a guest at your Senior Adult Banquet. I was so impressed by the youth’s talent & enthusiasm. The food, hospitality and decorations were all excellent.

Your church should be very proud.

Gratefully,

Pat Avis

Bro. Doug & Church Family,

I can’t begin to tell you what a blessing you all were to me this week. I appreciate the opportunity to minister through monologue sermons & pray the Lord used them for His glory. Thank you for such great accommodations, food, fellowship and the love offering.

God Bless you all,

Bro. Gary Brown

P.R.A.I.S.E. Report

The Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team performed "The Colors of Easter" Sunday, April 6. We are always amazed at the children and the awesome job they always do. Everyone seems to always be so blessed by the children’s participation, smiling faces, talent and angelic voices. We had many compliments about the story of the program. Of course we give God all the glory for all the colors that He had made and the impact those colors have on our lives daily. However, using those colors to present the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ through painting, singing, and dramatic speaking and readings not only allows us to appreciate the colors, but it also allows the children to remember the events of the Easter story. We didn’t just practice the story, but we learned and discussed each aspect of the story at our practices.

We are so thankful for the church and each person who helped us. Some of you helped by you bringing the children, preparing food, praying for us, bagging jelly beans, and helping with the set. We could not possibly name each individual; but God knows who you are and we know each of you received a blessing by every act of kindness you showed.

We will be having a cast party at the church on May 4 at 6:00 pm. In keeping with the them "The Colors of Easter" and "The Jelly Bean Poem," we will be having a paint party upstairs. We know the children will love that!

As we have requested in the past, please continue to pray for the Children’s P.R.A.I.S.E. Team as they continue to grow in the Lord and seek His way.

Praising Him,
Morgan and Vaughn

Dear Church Family,

Our family would like to thank everyone. Words can’t express our sincere appreciation for all that our church family and Bro. Doug has done for us during Frank’s illness. Thank you for the delicious meal that was prepared for us, for the prayers, cards, calls and the kind words that were spoken. We enjoyed your fellowship during the services.

Bro. Doug, thank you for your words and the beautiful song during the service. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful church family and community.

The Morgan Family

Dear Church fellow Christians,

Thanks so much for the card and gift card. Ben and I are both sick that we left our home & moved up here. We have found a Baptist church just around the corner. It’s pretty but really a country church, very friendly. We’ve both been so sick with the 6 weeks’ bug. We’ve only got to go once. Their pastor has been there for 13 years but he has now resigned with plans to retire. We enjoyed the S.S. class. So pray for us as I pray for you each day that we will adjust to our move.

Love you all,

Rose Dawn Mathenia
