Notes From Bro. Doug:

October was a full month and November seems to be even fuller. The BIG news is our Revival on November 17 - 19th . David Ring will be our speaker. David is completing his 40th year of ministry and he started right here at FBC . David had an office 40 years ago where the young adult Sunday school class meets now. God has used David in many ways to reach many people all over the U.S. make plans to attend now and I am sure God will bless you through David Ring.

Youth Report:

On October 2nd we took 18 to the Judgement House in Sikeston. This was my first time and let me tell you it was worth the trip a 1000 times over. Judgement House is a dramatic real life re-enactment of situations that lead you down the path to Heaven or Hell. Where you end up is based on your decision whether or not to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Minor Baptist Church puts this event on every year and I suggest you make plans to attend. It was a blessing to me and all who attended. We had 5 saved that night and 2 rededications. It was definitely worth the trip. I want to tell you more but I don’t want to spoil it for you if you decide to go next year. I can tell you this is a very well organized and uplifting event.

We really enjoyed BLEND coming back on the 13th. These guys are full of God’s given talents. It was a blessing again to hear them sing and to see God’s light shining through their music.

On Oct. 19th the day started out rainy, cold and terrible but the Chili Cook-Off event still took place. We ended up having a very good and fun day. We had several of the youth and the Women on Mission joined us this year and brought the Mercer chili recipe with them. The BBQ pit ended up being the heater for several that morning. LOL. Corn, corn heads and pea’s in a pod were everywhere! We cooked hotdogs, chicken wings and smoked turkey legs the size of the one that flips Fred Flintstones car at the beginning of the cartoon. LOL. They were huge!! People were stopping to take pictures with the ones in costumes. It was a HOOT!!

Phil brought the sound system and played music, the youth choir sang, there was a HEE HAW Salute to Caruthersville at one point! To make a long story short First Baptist Church of Caruthersville was well represented and many people took notice and were invited to church. We want to thank everyone who helped with this event. Thanks to those who donated money, time and effort. To those who bake something, made something or just came by and said hi.

We want to praise God in everything we do, for without God we could do nothing. We want the community to know that we are an alive and thriving church with open doors with the number one goal of helping lead the lost to find their salvation.

The youth have been doing well in our weekly Bible studies. We talk about real life situations that these teens are going through and how putting God first instead of last is so important to living a positive life. Please continue to pray for us. We love our kids & our church family. We are very lucky to have the tupe of relationship we have at First Baptist. Thanks again for all of the support & please continue to pray for us.

With Love,

Chris & Kristy Riggs, Youth Pastor

Congratulations to 2 of our youth:

FBC Adult Choir

Sunday Nights at 7pm

We have begun working on our Christmas musical. This year, we will be doing, "Smoky Mountain Christmas: The Gift", and I think you will all enjoy this musical!! It has a beautiful story line and features some of your favorite Christmas songs along with a few newer songs all driven by a smoky mountain country style! It’s not too late to be a part of what God is doing in this amazing group of people! If you would like to be a part of the choir, get with Bro. Doug or me...we will definitely be able to use you!

2 Extreme/FBC Youth Choir

To wrap up Pastor Appreciation month, 2 Extreme Youth Choir invites you to their presentation of Steven V. Taylor’s classic youth musical, "Friends Forever". The musical will begin at 6:00 pm and area churches are also invited to bring their youth groups for this fun, and encouraging evening. The musical is set in 1986 and will feature 1980's style music, costumes and even dance moves! It is my hope that even the audience will come wearing their favorite 80's clothes and hair styles. Come expecting to be transported back in time as we discover what it truly means to be a friend! Bro. Doug did this musical with his youth choir years ago and we are doing this a part of a special night for him and his family. We are inviting all former members of Bro. Doug’s youth group/youth choirs to come back for a special afternoon reunion. We will serve dinner at 4:00 pm in the fellowship hall, while showing Bro. Doug’s youth choir’s version of "Friends Forever". After some great food and fun reminiscing, everyone is invited to stay for this year’s production as our honored guests. The menu for the reunion dinner is: Chicken Cordon Blue, mashed potatoes, broccoli and cheese, corn, mac & cheese or macaroni & tomatoes, rolls with cheesecake for dessert. If you were a part of Bro. Doug’s youth group back in the late 80's and early 90's you have an open invitation to this event. Also, if you know of anyone else who was a part of the youth group back then, please get the word out to them so they can come as well. I don’t have a lot of contact info or names, so any help would be greatly appreciated. We hope this will be a great way to end Pastor Appreciation month for such a great spiritual leader and friend!

We are continuing with our lessons about Lottie Moon and how we all are Lottie Moon. We filled our boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We filled one for a boy and one for a girl. They also wrote letters that we included in them. We also got a big donation (thanks to Mrs. Marilyn Strawn) of jars so we can start working on our Hot Chocolate Kits to be sold at the Mistletoe Market in December. These will be decorated by the kids and will have a Bible verse on each one. Continue to bring your 5th & 6th graders on Wednesday nights. I always enjoy them!
