Notes From Bro. Doug:

Is it just my imagination or did September fly by??? Wow what a month at FBC. We started off with Laura Boyd presenting about Bangladesh and then a wonderful fellowship by the WOM for Lottie Moon. You gave $435 that evening and we are on our way to reaching our goal of $10,000.00.

Don’t forget to stay for lunch Sunday. We are having soup, grilled cheese sandwiches and desserts and all donations go to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.

The 2nd Annual Kevin McCoy Music Workshop was a success! Thanks to all the participants and especially to Phillip Barksdale for the vision he has with the music program at FBC. We have a lot more great things coming up with our music program and I encourage you to use the talents God has given you and join in...if you don’t use the talent, it might just be taken away. It is to Glorify God, not to make us comfortable or in the spotlight!!!

We have 3 deacons elected for the 2013-2016 servant term: Earl Bullington, Trey Constant and Shawn Maclin. The ordination service for Trey and Shawn will be Sunday night September 29th at 6:00 pm. The ordaining council will be at 5:00 pm in the Bullington Sunday School Class and is for any ordained child of God.

Dr. Doug Fitzwater is having a monthly free clinic in the children’s building at FBC. He is doing this for anyone who shows up. The next clinic is October 12th from 9:00 am - noon.

We had over 80 people show up at our annual church picnic at England Park. We had great food and an awesome time of fellowship and fun as a church family. Family is so important in a church setting. However, you must be a part to receive the benefits of a family. Come to all the services and classes and activities and you will be amazed at how this family will lift you up, you do not have to be alone if you do not want to.

The No Excuse Sunday was a success. We had 107 in Sunday School and 145 in the morning service and 80 in the evening service, thanks to all who came and invited people.

Bro. James Roy from the country of Bangladesh presented an awesome sermon Sunday night. Please be praying for Bro. James as he travels and speaks in the USA and then travels back to his country to continue his ministry.

We will be observing the Lord’s Supper on Sunday October the 6th during the morning worship service. If you would be willing to take communion to the nursing home and to our shut-ins, please see Bro. Doug ASAP.

Thank you to all who checked up with me on what they could do this last week to help with the funerals, meals and the wedding. I think God used us all in a great way this week, many planted seeds!

10 weeks of sharing canned goods and nonperishable’s for the Caruthersville Ministerial Alliance starts this Sunday. Please help out this year because there will be a big need.

The My Hope America with Billy Graham will start in October...look at the schedule somewhere in this newsletter. I hope and pray many of you will participate. See Dr. Doug Fitzwater for details.

                                                                                                                                                                                                               Bro. Doug

Business Meeting and Potluck
We will be trying again to have a potluck meal at 6pm prior to every business meeting each month. If enough attend and support the meal and help set-up and help clean-up we will continue the meal each month. Please bring a main meat dish a side dish and/or a dessert. If you can’’t bring food then bring a donation to help the meal ministry fund pay for extra food that is prepared, such as the salad bar.

Women On Mission News:

Women on Mission have been busy in the month of September! We met on Monday, September 9 to organize a "cookie drop" for our local police, fire and first responders in honor of September 11. Thanks to all who donated cookies - we had a ton and every delivery was appreciated! We also had an ice cream social after the evening worship on the 8th when Laura shared with us her awesome experiences in Bangladesh the past 2 years. We raised almost $ 400 toward our Lottie Moon Christmas offering. We aren't going to rest until we meet our $ 10,000 Lottie Moon goal! On Sunday, September 29, we are having our famous "soup lunch" after the morning worship. We will have 7 different varieties of soup, chili, and Bro. Chris Riggs will be making scrumptious grilled cheese sandwiches, and we'll have an assortment of homemade desserts and cookies. Again, all proceeds will go towards our Lottie Moon Christmas offering for international missions. It is also "Operation Christmas Child" time! We have the empty shoeboxes in the fellowship hall for pick up, and we'd just ask that you get your boxes filled and returned no later than October 27. If you can, include the postage for mailing of $ 7.00. Pam Peeler shared with us that she saw a big Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child box while in the Ukraine! We are reaching so many people all over the world with the good news! Our next meeting will be on Monday, October 14 at 6:30 pm. We are hoping to start a study group soon and we'd love for you to be a part of it! Fall is in the air! We are thankful for our Lord of the Harvest!

                                                                                                                                                                                      Christy, Pam & Peggy

Don't forget the birthday offering for the Missouri Baptist Children's home! All proceeds will be sent to the MBCH in December to help with Christmas. It's strictly voluntary, and once a year to donate so please participate if you can! if you give $1 per year of your age you get a mug, if you give coins per year you get a pencil. There is a world bank at the pulpit area where you can put your donation.

Youth Report:

School has started back and most of the youth have settled in for the long school year. Fall has officially gotten here and it won’t be long before the time changes again.

We have been working on basic Baptist faith beliefs which I feel will give the youth a good idea of what is basically expected of them as a Baptist. We have been using the information you can find as well at at the top of our web page.

McDonald’s in Hayti was this month’s birthday celebration location. We had a good time and the fellowship was great.

On September 11th, Bro. Nathan Pinkerton brought a video on distractive driving to the group. The video was a serious reminder on how fast texting and being distracted can kill you and everyone in the vehicle with you. Don’t text and drive. Pay attention!!!!

We have several upcoming events for you to plan on supporting. We will be making pizzas again sometime in October. We will be going to Judgement house in Sikeston on October 9th . We will have a team in the Chili Cook-off on October 19th and we will be going to Van Buren to a Youth Retreat on October 25th and 26th. So, as you can see I will have much more to write about next time.

We will continue to teach your children about God, the Bible and what being a Christian means. Please continue to pray for us.

Music Notes:

Well, this past month we had the 2nd Annual Kevin McCoy Memorial Music Workshop! It was a blast! This year it included Common Ground, the Adult choir and the youth choir! It was a long day but it was worth it! We learned a lot about worship and music! For instance, do you know what the most repeated command in the Bible is? Come on, take a guess! It’s to "sing"! That’s right, we are told over and over again all through the Bible to sing! The Bible tells us that God inhabits the praise of His people! He loves it when we sing to Him!! The concert that night also went very well! Common Ground played and we were assisted by Jim Clark, who came down to help out with the workshop! The combined Adult/Youth choir sang a special; Ashley Grissom sang a special while Connor Barksdale signed the words and Bro. Doug and Sis. Peggy sang a duet! For those of you who didn’t make it, you missed a wonderful night of praise and worship. Special thanks to Jim Clark and Bro. Doug for helping with the classes and Bro. Doug, Marilyn (the Reverend Mother) Boyd, and Kristy Riggs for all the awesome food and to everyone else who showed up to make this year’s workshop such a wonderful and memorable event!

5th and 6th Grade Missions:

As fall approaches, we have begun talking about the Lottie Moon Christmas offering and what we can do to help do our part. We will have a lesson and video every week leading up to the offering date. One thing we have discussed is filling up a box for Operation Christmas Child. The kids want to do 2 boxes so we will do 1 box for a girl and 1 box for a boy. Another is our next mission project. We will be making "Hot Chocolate Kits". We are going to sell these at the Mistletoe Market the WOM will be doing in December. We will be needing jars (small with lids) if anyone has any so we can put together our kits. I will be putting up a box in the fellowship hall for collecting jars. All the money collected will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. This is a very important time of the year, as we learn that many people view Christmas as a time for receiving gifts, it is more importantly a time for giving.
