Common Ground

(FBC’s Praise & Worship Team)

We are currently rehearsing every Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm. We are looking for some musicians and singers to help us out a bit, as well as someone who can run a sound board. Please, if you are interested, come join us this Sunday for rehearsal.

Special Music: If you would like to share a special song, skit, poem, etc, please get with Connor Barksdale so she can add you to the calendar.

FBC Worship Choir

(Wednesday nights @ 8:00)

The FBC Worship Choir meets for rehearsals every Wednesday night right after church, usually around 8:00 pm. We are working on a variety of music ranging from traditional, to Gospel, to Southern Gospel favorites, to Praise and Worship oriented music, to Contemporary standards and even some favorite hymns. There is definitely something for everyone. There is also something coming up in November in which I hope you will take part. On the 5th Sunday of November, the 29th, we will have a former choir member special day. I would like to invite all former members to join with our current choir members to lead worship and sing a special song. I will be sending out invitations soon to everyone I can find to be a part of this special day. This is the first Sunday of Advent and I can’t think of a better way to usher in the Christmas season than with a reunion of our choir family. I really hope you will be a part of this! We are also still working on "The Christmas Shoes" which we will present on December 20th. If you would like to be a part of this wonderful ministry, just be at the next rehearsal this Wednesday night after church. God gave you talent for a reason and that is to use it for His glory!!

Singing His Praises,

Phil

Please turn ALL charge tickets from Hays, The Store or any others so that we can determine what accounts to pay them from. There is a container in the fellowship hall on the counter for these receipts or you may drop them by the office or give them to Bro. Doug.

A Note about Creative Sunday

Our Creative Sunday services are every third Sunday. The AM services are more adult oriented featuring special music from our FBC choir, a mixture of hymns and classic songs and multi-media "attention getters". The PM service is more youth and young adult oriented featuring our fine arts team, Extreme Arts and our praise and worship team, Common Ground. I have some big ideas for this service, but cannot post them yet as I am still hammering out all the details. It is my prayer that these services will be up-lifting and challenging to us all in our daily Christian walk. Our next Creative Sunday will be October 18th and I really hope you will all be there to worship with us!

Extreme Arts:

We have just finished our Extreme Arts Boot Camp! Thank you so much to Theresa Jean for the use of your cabin at Reelfoot. We had a wonderful time there and I think we really came together as a family. We learned some things to help us out in our upcoming projects including mime, voice projection, stage presence and etiquette, and even a little gymnastics training. Thanks to Kristy Riggs for being a team captain and leading devotionals. Also thanks to Bro. Doug and Sis. Peggy for teaching and preparing our meals. Thanks to Chris and Angie Peeler for feeding us supper Friday night and being there to help. Thanks also to Pam Bullington for taking pictures and teaching. Also thanks to Hope Bynum and Cindy Grissom for sending some extra snacks with us! Finally, thanks to all the members of our group for coming and working so hard. I had a great time just hanging out with you all!! We are about to really start putting some of these lessons to use as we move forward with our remaining projects. If you are between 7th grades - college and would like to join us, we would love to have you! Just meet us for rehearsal every Sunday evening at 5:00 pm in the choir room.

Phil

Women On Mission:

Fall is here and now is the time to gear up for the Lottie Moon offering. We have set our goal at $10,000.00 this year. Our WOM soup and sandwich luncheon will be October 25th, immediately following the morning services. All donations will go towards our goal. If you would like to bring soup, sandwiches or dessert, please notify, Pam, Christy or Peggy. Make plans to attend the luncheon for good food and fellowship. Our Merry Mart has been set for Saturday, December 5th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We are needing gently used and new home furnishing items, Christmas decorations, Christmas sweaters/vests, baked goods/Christmas candy. If you can’t get it to us, we will be more than glad to pick it up. All proceeds from the Merry Mart also go to the Lottie Moon offering. Samaritan Shoe Boxes are in the foyer by the fellowship hall and in the foyer of the main sanctuary entrance. Our next WOM meeting will be October 5th at 6:30 pm. We would love to have you join us. I believe Jesus wants us to be a part of missions.

Pam, Christy & Peggy

Youth News:

Hello everyone. It’s been another busy month for the youth group. We had another awesome fund raiser with the pizzas. We sold about 160! As always thank you so much for the support for our fund raisers! We did not make any extras but we have enough stuff to make extra if you would like one, just let me know.

We have had two 5th quarters this month and they were absolutely awesome! We had around 25 youth at the first one and about 16 youth for the second one. Our games were a great success, we had lots of food, music and testimonies. Thank you so much to the youth council that came and helped.

Also, I had the pleasure of going with some other youth that are in extreme arts to Reelfoot. I really enjoyed this and thank Phil so much for his work with this group.

We have started a weekly reading plan. This one is designed for busy youth. I pray that this will be something they are serious about so they can develop daily time with God.

Just some dates to keep in mind, we have our last 5th quarter this Friday on October 2nd. I urge all the youth to come and support this and make this last one a success. Also, we will be going to Sikeston to Judgement House on October 18th. Our time is at 5:00 pm so we will let you know a little bit later when we will be leaving. We have another youth council meeting coming up on October 18th, right after church.

I ask you to continue to pray for us as we grow closer to each other and our Lord and Savior!

God Bless, Kristy & Chris

Children’s Mission Group:

The kids are having a great time in missions and music class. Ok, the adults are too!! We have some great things planned the next few months. On Saturday October 24th we will be going to Weaver Farms in Holcomb to their corn maize & hay ride. we’ll grill hot dogs there and have a great time. We’ll leave church between 2 - 2:20, they open at 3:00. We’ve had to push back our St. Louis zoo trip to November 14th. If it’s raining or too cold, we’ll go to the science museum. Both are free but the kids will need to bring $15.00 - $20.00 for food and a souvenir, if they want one. We’ll have more information on that trip in November’s newsletter. Please continue to keep these kids in your prayers. Also, please pray for safe travels on these upcoming trips.

Thank You,

Paige Gillock, Michael Santschi, and Peggy Boyd
