Notes From Bro. Doug:

DEACON NOMINATION is upon us. Sunday you will have a deacon information sheet with the eligible and non-eligible deacons to be nominated....please pray for your decisions. Ask questions like, Is he faithful?, is he a good spiritual example?, do you see him giving his time and energy to the church?...if you pray about it, God will give you the answer. Pray for your deacons and the new ones nominated on Sept.13th and elected on Sept. 27th.

NO EXCUSE SUNDAY!! Sunday morning we will not be accepting ANY excuses for missing Sunday School or Worship. The goal is to have 100 in SS and 225 in worship. With work and prayer we can make it.

The annual church picnic is Sept. 27th at England Park from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The church will provide the fried chicken and bread, you bring everything else, including your own drinks and chair and any yard games you might want to bring.

Sunday School promotion is Sept. 6th. Teachers please help the student know where they are suppose to be for class for the upcoming year.

The SEMO Baptist Assoc. annual meeting will be on Monday Sept. 14th at 7:00 pm at Catron BC and Tuesday Sept. 15th at Cottonwood BC with a potluck meal at 6:00 pm and meeting at 7:00 pm.

Just a reminder of the FREE Dr. Clinic the second Saturday of every month in our children’s building. This is done by Dr. Fitzwater and other members of the church. It is 9:00 am - noon, so spread the word.

The family back to school bash was a huge success and we thank Emma Fitzwater for heading it up and for her work as the summer intern here at FBC this summer. She said you gave very generously to her love offering and it was appreciated.

Our church council continues to meet. The council consists of pastor, youth leader, music leader, children’s leader, Children’s mission leader, WOM leader, Sunday School director and a deacon. We make sure the calendar is complete and there are no calendaring conflicts. We also brainstorm on activities to promote church fellowship and unity.

Our Creative Sundays are going well. We have a few glitches here and there but who doesn’t. We want to thank Bro. Phillip for all the extra hours he puts in not only for the music program but for the multimedia presentations too.

We will soon have the lettering and identifying emblems on our new church van. Charlie Jones and I went to Kennett and talked with Brooks Signs and the lettering is in production now.

We had a great meeting last Monday with the new youth council. Kristy has a lot of things planned and the committee has expressed support to her as she takes the reigns as youth leader at FBC.

The next WOM meeting is September 14th at 6:30 pm.
Bro. Doug

Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for letting me be your intern for the past 3 years. It was such a wonderful experience and it really helped me grow in my faith. You guys are the most wonderful people that support and love unconditionally. Thank you for the awesome love offering. It was greatly appreciated. Thank you again for the encouragement and being who you are.

Much love,

Emma

FBC Worship Choir

(Wednesday nights @ 8:00)

Well, we’ve made some changes with the choir. We are now the FBC Worship Choir and our rehearsal times have changed to Wednesday nights after church , around 8:00 p.m. We will be leading worship every third Sunday morning during our creative worship service. I think it’s an awesome change to have the choir leading out on the worship rather than just backing me up! I’ve heard too many comments about how choirs are outdated. If this is the case, why are they still used so much? I have searched to find ways to make the choir relevant again as well as a ministry to our church. I was very encouraged to find so many music directors who have brought their choirs to the forefront of their worship services and truly used them to be a ministry and encouragement to their local church bodies. I have taken some of their ideas and mixed them with some of my own and I’m really excited at the direction in which we are now moving. My hope is that you will be excited and encouraged by our ministry as well. We are also still working on "The Christmas Shoes" which we will present on December 20th. If you would like to be a part of of this wonderful ministry, just be at the next rehearsal this Wednesday night after church. God gave you talent for a reason and that is to use it for His glory!!

Singing His Praises,

Phil

Please turn ALL charge tickets from Hays, The Store or any others so that we can determine what accounts to pay them from. There is a container in the fellowship hall on the counter for these receipts or you may drop them by the office or give them to Bro. Doug.

Thank you First Baptist Family,

Thank you for all the cards, memorials and kind words spoken during the loss of Fred’s brother, Tom Boyd.

In Christian Love, Fred & Janice Boyd

Thank you church family for help sending the kids to church camp in July and the "goodies" you gave us to enjoy! Most of all, thank you for all your prayers. Please continue to keep them in your prayers as they have so many challenges these days.

The Caregivers,

Caroline, Connor, Dylan & Marilyn

A Note about Creative Sunday

Our Creative Sunday services are every third Sunday. The AM services are more adult oriented featuring special music from our FBC choir, a mixture of hymns and classic songs and multi-media "attention getters". The PM service is more youth and young adult oriented featuring our fine arts team, Extreme Arts and our praise and worship team, Common Ground. I have some big ideas for this service, but cannot post them yet as I am still hammering out all the details. It is my prayer that these services will be up-lifting and challenging to us all in our daily Christian walk. Our next Creative Sunday will be Sept. 20th and I really hope you will all be there to worship with us!

Extreme Arts:

Well, we are back in the swing of things in Extreme Arts! On September 18th - 20th, we will be having our Extreme Arts Boot Camp! On the 18th, we will meet at the church at 5:30 pm to load the van and have some pizza. We are going to be leaving out as close to 6:00 pm as possible to go to Reelfoot. Thanks so much to Theresa Jean for allowing us to use her place for the weekend. We will spend that night and all day Saturday there. We will return Saturday the 19th around 10:00 pm. The next morning, our boot camp will continue during Sunday School at 9:30 am. We will meet again at 4:30 pm for some final preparations for our special evening service, which will start at 6:00 pm. The team will talk about their boot camp experiences and share music, drama and worship. Parents will be receiving more information and permission slips on Sunday, September 6th. Permission slips need to be returned by September 19th when we leave, or your student cannot go with us! I am very excited about this year’s group and I hope that God will use them in mighty ways to minister to our church and community this year!

Women On Mission:

WOM met on August 17th with 10 or more ladies present. We discussed up coming events such as, WOM soup and sandwich luncheon on October 25th, immediately after the morning service. Proceeds from the luncheon will go toward the Lottie Moon offering.

Samaritan Purse boxes are in and ready to be picked up in the fellowship hall. It is never to early to start work on getting yours filled. I hope you have been collecting items throughout the year to fill your box. I challenge each and every member to

at least fill one box. If you can’t get out to get your items, I will be glad to shop for you.

For the month of September we are collecting combs, small hair brushes and hard candy. Tubs are set up in the fellowship hall for these items.

Our annual Merry Mart will be Saturday December 5th from 10:00 - 2:00. Please start now going through items you may want to donate. I know it gets hectic closer to Christmas and you may not have time to get your items together. Any Christmas items and gently used home items are appreciated. No clothes, with the exception of Christmas clothing. If you have any questions or need items picked up, let me know and I will make arrangements for that.

Our next meeting will be September 14th in the fellowship hall, please come and join us. We would love to have you and your ideas.

My mission trip to Brazil, down the Amazon river is fast approaching. To say I am excited would be an understatement. I still am in need of supplies, following is a list of things that I need. Thank you First Baptist for trusting me to represent our church, it is an honor and privilege to serve the Lord in this capacity. Any donations that come in for my mission trip will be used to buy medical needs. We will be visiting 4 villages and hope to treat all that come for medical assistance. Here is my list and thank you in advance: Equate One a Day Vitamins, (lots of them), Ibuprofen (large bottles and lots of them), trial size or small boxes of Pepto Bismal (lots of them), Quart Ziplock bags, 8 count CRAYOLA crayons, if the 16 or 24 are cheaper, take the 8 primary colors out and put in small baggies. We are going to try and leave colors with the children when we leave a village along with other gifts. I will have more needs as time gets closer.

Youth News:

Hello church family. School has started back and most of the kids were excited. After having a busy summer and with fall approaching. We still have many activities coming up.

We had a blast helping Emma Fitzwater with the annual "Back To School Bash" . It was an absolute huge success. I know some of the youth enjoyed getting wet as much as the younger kids did. But I enjoyed seeing Adrienne learn how to make cotton candy. This was a sight because she had it on her from head to toe. LOL. We also had youth serving in the kitchen. I’m so proud of their willingness to help wherever needed. It’s pizza time again. We started selling August 19th. We will continue to sell until September 9th. We have the single toppings for $10.00 and all meat for $12.00. These have always been a big hit. They are delicious! Just get with any youth if you would like to purchase 1 or 10. We will meet at the fellowship hall at 9:00 am September 12th to make the pizzas. You can come around 1:00 pm to pick up your pizzas or if you make arrangements with a youth they will deliver. As always, we appreciate your continued support.

We met August 23rd at Wayne & Karen Smith’s house for our yearly swim party. We appreciate them so much always willing to let us come swim in their beautiful backyard. Although not very many were able to show up, they had the best time. These kids really get along great together, it’s wonderful for us adults to see.

On Monday August 24th, we will start our monthly youth council meetings again to discuss all upcoming activities. The youth council members have been contacted and I thank them for their willingness to serve these youth.

Saturday August 29th, the youth are going to Paragould, AR to see the movie "The War Room". If you haven’t seen commercials for this, it looks like a very powerful movie about prayer. We will leave about noon and return as soon as the movie gets out. We will also eat lunch so the kids need to bring spending money. We appreciate Paige Gillock for securing the tickets for us.

We are planning on hosting a 5th quarter party after our next home football game on September 4th. Please pass this along and invite as many as you can, especially ones that you know do not have a church family. We will have food, games, etc. and go until about midnight. We will see how it goes to determine if we will do it again. Please pray that it is received well. It’s a good ministry to try to keep the kids out of trouble on a Friday night. Also, we are looking for families that would be willing to host us in their homes once a month. We would go to their house on Sunday nights for a meal, lesson and games. If you are willing or know someone I could ask, please get with me.

As Sunday School promotion approaches on September 6th, we are losing Connor Barksdale. We will continue to pray for her as she moves to her next endeavor. I know she will continue to use that big heart of hers to serve our Lord and Savior.

We are real excited about more upcoming events that I will report to you guys next time. Please continue to pray for us as we serve and grow in the Lord.

Kristy & Chris
