Notes From Bro. Doug:

One of the most important things we do as a church is select the spiritual leaders of our church called deacons. You have an opportunity on September 4th to nominate 4 men for the office of deacon. Please read I Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:3-6 to help you decide on the ones you will nominate. Also ask them if they would be willing to serve. Then on September 18th we will have deacon elections.

Special Bible Study:

We will be having a 4 week Bible study on Sunday evenings starting September 4th. This study will be based on the movie "Courageous" which comes out September 30th. We will try to secure tickets for anyone who wants to go see the movie. Try to be here for all 4 Bible studies, especially Dads.

Mission Moments:

Women on Mission had their August get together in the home of JoAnn Morgan with 20 ladies attending. It was the last meeting I presided over as your Director and the ladies kindly expressed their appreciation for my service through beautiful words, cards and gifts. My thanks to everyone and my continued prayers go out for this organization and its leaders in the new year. Susan Pinkerton will take the helm and already has many fresh and new ideas for ministries and various projects during the coming months. She is also Mission Trip coordinator and the ladies are presently selling mums for $15.00 each. All orders must be in by August 31 and if you don’t want a mum for yourself, the ladies in charge of the flowers and shrubs would like some donated for our church grounds. The proceeds from these sales will go towards mission trips. Following this project, the ladies will sell poinsettias to go toward the Lottie Moon offering. WOM is continuing to collect school supplies for Laura Boyd’s upcoming mission service and for back-to-school use here in our own community. Our Nursing Home Ministry will continue with Fran Cook filling in with devotionals and leading the song service when I can’t be there. If anyone else feels led to participate in this very worthwhile effort, please call the church office or see Fran or me. We really need more people to do the devotional. My thanks again to all the ladies who faithfully attend and help with these Tuesday morning services.

Ladies, please continue to pray for and support Susan as she begins her service as you have encouraged, prayed for and participated in the many ministry and mission activities over the past years.

                                                                                                                                                     Prayerfully yours,

                                                                                                                                                         Jo Ann Manz

Our sincere thanks to all our church family who gave hugs, cards, phone calls and attended our 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration given by our children on the 21st. You helped make our day so very special and we’ll never forget it. We appreciate the church allowing us to use the fellowship hall and kitchen, etc.

Love in Christ,

Chuck & Jo Ann Manz

From the Pastor:

When you know of a church member going into the hospital and need a visit or a prayer from the pastor or a deacon, please call the pastor or the church office.

I know that hospital visits and nursing home visits are a weakness of my ministry, so I am going to try to do better in this area. But I need family members’ help and your help to do my job better.

Dear Church Members:

Thank you for all you did to help us go to Children’s

Camp. For those who paid on the sponsorships and gave donations and snacks to us, thank you. Most of all, to each and everyone of you, thank you for your prayers. Without you these kids could not have had the blessings they received during the week of July 25 - 29. There were 10 kids who went and I can say they were such a sweet, caring, polite group. We can all be proud of them!

Our theme this year was "God Knows My Name". He not only knows our name but what we think, how we act and what we say. Now that the new school year is beginning, I pray that each one of them (as well as myself!) Will remember this and strive to be more like Him. Each day we had breakfast, flag raising, Bible Study, Bible Drills, morning celebration of songs and activities, lunch,

recreation activities, swimming, supper and worship. Of course the trip wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the cave and Jolly Cone! Even though there were no public conversions made, I am sure through the Bible Study and late night discussions there were those who felt the closeness of God in their hearts.

I can say I am proud to be a member of First Baptist Church! God bless each and everyone of you!

Marilyn Strawn

Constant News:

Greetings First Baptist Church Family,
I am so fortunate to be working with this group of young people. They are so supportive and caring. Since I have been back we have had a "back to school" night with about 15 kids in attendance. We ate, played kickball, and some brave souls jumped in the bouncy house at about 100 degrees. The kids didn't seem to mind the heat. Saturday we had a Youth pizza party at the parsonage. Bro Doug and Kevin Riggs made homemade pizzas with the help of Parr. BeeBee made brownies and Rice Krispy Treats and everyone ate, drank, and was merry!! Later we played the Wii and Sara Riggs showed off her fishing skills. All the kids were laughing and talking and I was so thankful to be a part of such fellowship. The kids are so welcoming to me and I appreciate them. We are planning a couple of concerts in the fall to attend and Josh has asked us to come to Dyersburg to hang out with his group.
Sunday night after youth group, Dylan, Caroline, Jordan, and I brought down some items from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor's new youth room. We have a T.V., DVD player, and a stereo. Bro. Doug had purchased a new series from Bluefish to aid in our Bible curriculum. We can't wait to get started. We have ping pong, air hockey, and pool up there for their entertainment after class. They have really made it look like home.
If you have suggestions or would like to feed us, my cell # is 359-7170. We will eat anything.
Dana Constant
