A Word From Your Pastor:

Fall is a wonderful time of the year. Susan and I enjoy the cool morning and evenings as we get closer to the holiday season. Friday night football is in full swing with both Caruthersville and Hayti starting off their seasons on positive notes both winning their first two games. Deer season is right around the corner and I know we have several hunters ready to bag that trophy buck. Good luck with that fellas.

As we get into fall there are a couple of events that are coming up that I need to mention. Our fall family picnic is scheduled for September 17th, 4:00 pm until finished. Also, our fall revival will be here before we know it. October 15th - 18th. I hope everyone comes out for the picnic and revival on every night as the Lord blesses us by great music and preaching.

Let’s not forget Pam and her mission trip to the Amazon. Be in prayer for her and her team as they go share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her dinner to raise money for medicine is Sunday September 10th after morning worship.

In closing let me say that Susan and I have enjoyed serving the community of Caruthersville and First Baptist Church. Our first six months have been busy as we learn and get to know the church and community. We have a good base of people at our church and now is the time to begin thinking about growth. I challenged the church the other day to have a hundred kids in Sunday School within a year’s time. This is a goal that is attainable with hard work. Please pray for the new Children’s Director and the new team that will transform the children’s department to the largest group in our church.

Reaching Caruthersville is our goal. Let’s get started!

In Christ,

Pastor Jimmy

Women On Mission:

Women On Mission will be meeting September 18, at 6:30 pm. We have much to discuss with Christmas right around the corner. Funds have come in for the new John 3:16 banner. Much was donated for the banner by Mrs. Beulah’s family and her Sunday School Class.

Please come and join us at our WOM meeting, you may have just the ideas we need to enhance God’s work for the kingdom. Please continue to work on your Samaritan Purse boxes.

FBC Worship Choir

For Christmas this year, we will be doing a joint production with the choir from North 10th Street Baptist Church in Blytheville. We will be doing the musical, "The Christmas Shoes", based on the song and movie of the same name. It will feature some of your all-time favorite Christmas songs along with a few new songs by the group Newsong. This month we will be having auditions for some of the roles for the drama part of the musical and also for solos. I will let you know the exact date this week.

This drama is going to be the biggest production we’ve done to date, and we are going to need some help with the set. If you would be willing to lend a hand painting or building this set with us, please get with me and I will give you the work date. We will also need help during the production and dress rehearsals with various lights and set-up. Once again, just get with me and I’ll let you know more of the details. I am so excited about this production and to be able to work with Jim Clark and the choir from North 10th Street for this special two night production. I hope you will be a part of this, too!

Singing His Praises,
Phil

Tuesday Night Bible Club:

Our Tuesday night class going strong. We are still in Genesis and will be moving into Exodus shortly. After that, we will approach the remaining books of the Pentateuch, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, at the same time in kind of topical study format. Come and join us as we study God’s word together.

Please contact us: If your children or grandchildren have received any honors in school, let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter and put it on the tv announcements.

Extreme Arts

For the Fall, we’ll be doing a musical production of the movie, "A Distant Thunder". This musical takes place in an old church that has been renovated into a prison for believers a few years after the rapture of the church. It’s by far the most dramatic production we’ve ever worked on, and I can’t wait to see how you all tackle this one. It will feature songs by Larry Norman, DC Talk, NF, and Crowder.

Auditions for characters and solos will be today at 4:00 pm. If you are not auditioning for a part or solo, you do not have to come today. Regular rehearsal will reconvene on September 10th.

First Baptist Church,

We wanted to tell you that it is a special gift you give families when you feed them a meal at the death of a loved one. Many times families haven’t been together in quite some time so this allows them a wonderful time and place to visit and share.

Thanks for the wonderful service you provide!

Youth News:

Well, school is back in session, so our attendance is picking up. We are going to start a new bible study on Sunday nights in September. We will start the Armour of God study by Priscilla Schirer. This is the same study that Mrs. Vicky DeReign did with the church. She was gracious enough to let me borrow it to do with the youth.

We had our annual back to school pool party August 13th. We had so much fun with lots of food and fellowship. As always, we would like to thank Karen & Wayne Smith for the use of their beautiful pool and backyard.

We are like the rest of the church, because we are also getting geared up for revival in October. Especially since Monday night is youth night. We are going to take one night of class and go out to spread the word. We will also be contacting the area youth groups. We have been in prayer that this will be an avenue to bring a young person to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Please continue to be in prayer for our youth department and all of our activities.

God Bless,

Kristy Riggs

Mission Trip News:

On September 10, after the morning services, I will be having a Mission Dinner. Because of your generous giving, my part of the trip is completely paid for. In order for the Amazon Mission trip to go forward, we must collect at the minimum of $2,000 for medicine. The medicine will be bought in Brazil by the Brazilian Dr.’s that are a part of the Project Amazon team. All funds over the medical cost will go towards Basic Food Baskets, consisting of Rice, Beans, Flour and Sugar. The food baskets are handed out after medical treatment and the gospel is presented. Our mission team is made of 3 different teams, Medical, Evangelism and Children’s ministry. We were assigned our duties several months ago and have been doing training videos to prepare for the trip. As I stated Sunday, this is in no way a "fluff" trip. It’s long hours on a boat, cramped, hot and extreme humidity and huge skeeters, BUT, the food is excellent and the rewards are many. What a blessing for FBC to be able to participate in such an event. People added to the kingdom because of your generosity and prayers. You may ask why I would want to do this. I asked myself that same question when I went in 2015. Why wouldn’t I want to go? I have been so blessed by God in my life that there is no way I could ever begin to Thank God enough for what He has done for me. His blessings flow on me when I am so undeserving. If you can’t attend the dinner and want to help financially, you may do so by turning your offering in to the church, just make sure it is marked Mission Trip. All funds collected will then be sent to Illinois Mission Board and sent to Brazil to the IMB, so that meds and food can be purchased and be ready for us when we get there. If you have any questions or would like to see some pictures from my last trip down the Amazon, please get with me. I love sharing stories.

Please be in prayer for the team and traveling mercies for the people that will come our way.

Matthew 9:37-38

Your Mission Director,

Pam
